I noticed that you were motor-sailing (exhaust from tailpipe, boat moving too quickly, no whitecaps, head sail not always full).. Have you tried this setup purely under sail with any success? Just wondering what its like under those conditions. I'm envious at how stable your kite cam is. My system is much too jerky and I'm trying different scenarios - onland. Would be nice to get a shot of your kite cam setup! :-)
Hi Alex...imagine my surprise when I discovered that I'm a close neigbour of Cathy B in Peterhead?...I've just recently bought StellaMar (Colvic Watson 26) and intend sailing her back to Ireland over the summer....The kite cam is a fantastic idea for aerial shots of her...crackin' video!...Sorry to hear you've sold her, a lovely boat as I remember...
The name of the song is" they send me alone to an island" and it is being sung by a lady called Julie Fowles who is amember of a Scottish Gaelic band and they go by the name of Do'chas
Pretty cool, AlexPSNB! The feeling it gives is wonderful. I love to sail and love to shoot but I had no idea of such a thing as kite-camming. How do you do it? How do you aim the camera? Keep it from turning? Turn it on/off? Is keeping out of the water even a concern? -- jmkyle
Nicely done. By now you may have discovered how to get better video, but in case not... I am an experienced KAPer. Mount the camera at least 100' below the kite on the line, 300' is better - more stable than a jerky kite. Mount/hang the camera at least 3' below the line, 10' is better, for rock solid video. Picavet is one way, but there are other types of mounts and cradles. Attach a rubber ring (exhaust pipe mount) on the line above and below your cradle to reduce line wind-vibration.
Thank you for posting this!!! Great job! I have the "big brother" of your boat, an F37. I'll try kite camming this summer. The boat was pushing along very nicely there!
sorry for not getting back to you sooner,im offshore at the moment,it was easy enough it took a couple of goes to get it right, the type of kite that i was using was a Cody Box kite which cost about £35 and the camera was a Casio Zx 1080 mounted on a alloy bracket which i made from some scrap tubing,I did not have a water proof case due to the fact that as long as you have enough wind the kite will stay up'just make sure when you start taking the kite in that you pull it back on board quickly.
Hey nice filming! But i've a question i have that camera too but there are always some pixels when i'm filming..what settings do you use by a film like this?
And there are no untherwater cases for this camera so you must be good with your kite..?
Very very nice result!

How easy/hard is it to do this type of filming, do you need waterproof case.
