  • Do you still have it or have you scrapped it after the presentation?

  • Turned up subwoofer and got more of the low end. Nice sound!

    Thanks for sharing.

  • Nice job ..... wow.

We are searching for self build PVC Instrument photo's (and video's ofcourse).

We place them on our Blue Man group fans facebook page ..... there is an event page for this; search for "PVC Instruments, sent in your photo's !" on facebook and you will find it.

Can you help us gather as many PVC instruments as possible?

    Greetz, Hans and Marco.

  • Sounds very cool. You should train someone else and perform together and actually do a tune.

  • How Did you get the tuning right with the lengths of the tubes???

  • Not much point using good quality speakers, its 240p. Upload at a better bit rate please :-)

  • How thick are those pipes??

  • That sounds like something I heard on BSG...

  • ...how?

  • is it all length? would the diametre of the pvc change anything? could you have 10 pvcs ranging down from say 4 feet to 2 feet going down in equal increments and still have it sound like that?

  • @Quinnyboyz No man, the diameter plays a factor in the formula that is used to calculate the tubing length

  • i love the sound these instruments make

  • Excellent job. Sounds unusual and looks amazing!

  • I was going to build a pvc drum set for my physics project, but he said we needed air resonance ))); But THANKS TO YOU, I CAN NOW!! :D

Thank you sooo much for the spreadsheet brah! But are the pipes really 2 in in diameter? they seem bigger on video

  • Cool music ! The instrument is pretty cool, and i really liked what you played on it.

  • Hi friend, if I can pass the plan with the measures of the tubes, I want to make an instrument for me.

    thanks!

  • wow your from uwm tight.

  • How much does ist cost to build one?

    [greetings from germany!]

  • Some where there is a Home Depot that is a bit richer.

  • I was listening to this in the background and it started to sound a little like Pipe Dreams by Animusic, very cool.

  • lol BLUE MAN GROUP???

  • How does that formula work if I use centimeters instead of inches?

  • @norsktorskemann ...Well there are 2.54 centimeters per inch. So you'd just have to multiply the measurements by 2.54 and you'll get the right measurement. =)

  • how do you measure the elbow peices?

  • The formula for pipe lengths:

    Length= (tube diam/2) + (speed of sound/Frequency x 2).

The speed of sound at 68 deg F is 13512.5 in/sec- it doesn't vary with altitude.

I used 2" PVC and 2-90deg elbows for a 180 deg bend in each tube. The elbows = about 8.5" of straight pipe. You need to deduct 1/2 the pipe diam. for each open end-so for 2" pipe deduct 2".

I used an electronic tuner, but a piano would also work. I used a chromatic scale in the key of E to make it easier for guitarists.

  • this way cool!!!

  • nem ele q ta tocano

  • Sounds like a computer game. Nothing I can think of in particular. Interesting.

  • I am thinking of building one. Love your design. In calculating the length, how do you work with the 90 degree pieces and the length of the tube? Do you disregard them, count the outside, inside length? Thanks.

  • Its like the drums and organ together. pretty cool

  • @jacobscorpio588 Thank you, I know it's the popular the new kid around the block that gets all the attention and no one else, now how typical is this? That other person makes it all sound like HE invented it all... this is what bugs me, and I'm not a DUDE!! I have the right to say it, NOT? Guess what, he blocked me because I said it... WOW!! American democracy ???

  • Seems like Pink Floyd in the beginning!

  • Sounds like one of those tracks from Judge Dredd for Sega Genesis hehe

  • Nice job, it sounds good and is loud enough to hear.

  • Very nice to listen to (: relaxing sound.

  • Bravo! I think you should get more credit for this!! Kudos!!

  • Did you know that some other guy is taking all the credit for your invention?

  • Can you message me the spreadsheet for the pipe measurements?

  • Now this is Art

  • paddles are flipflops correct? can you use anythin else?

  • Comment removed

  • Great video.

Are all the notes sounding so deep/low on purpose?

  • play on good speakers with 240p?? lol :D but good job

  • i dont understand this spreadsheet at all. all the lengths are 2 0/1

can anybody help me? what do i do? D:

  • I think I will build on such a thing and work on sustain resonance. Nice instrument.

  • @revbricenichols I think if you can place a spring inside the tube crossways after the note is hit it will sustane the frequency a longer time however unless u can stop it when you need the remaining vibration may sutain into next note and that note could be disonant

  • Kraftwerk intro?

  • you walk into a bar and you hear this music playing. bobafett in the corner and other alien criminals. then theres the alien stripper dancing to the tune.

  • very interesting

  • the music reminds me a little of the akira soundtrack.... mixed with legend of zelda ._. or maybe i'm just a geek

  • how much did that cost

  • nevermind

  • can you send the designs to me

  • keep practicing and you'll be super fast like the blue man group! good job on the design and assembly.

  • What do you hit them with?

  • can i buy this one ???

  • neat

  • That's incredible, marvelous job! 5/5

  • hi...i'm Davide from italy and i'd like very much make a instrument similar of your...is it possible have the project?thanks very much and congratulations

  • Would you mind if I asked how much all of this cost? Thanks.

  • opfer xd

  • Cost? I love the sound!

  • holy shit. i bet you spent a fortune of this. 2 inch 90's are like 3 bucks a pop, and that's scheduale 40 pipe too so its even more expensive. try some 3" SDR dude... you would save your self a bunch of money and space

  • that is awsome

  • Woot! Reminds me of the blue man group!

  • hey i think this is genius would you mind sending me the spreadsheet/ instruction my email is

  • is there any other way for you to get me the pipe lengths other than email

  • Comment removed

  • hey can you send me the exact lengths or a link to where you found the lengths

  • Comment removed

  • alienfuzz215@yahoo.com please send

  • did you make the plans or find them? i want to make one i can put in my room

  • @wannabeKeithMoon I made the designs myself, but didn't write anything down. I have a spreadsheet that calculates the lengths of PVC that you need for the different pitches. If you (or anyone) want me to send it to you, message me your email address and I will do that.

  • @m00100101

i would need to scale it down to about 3/4 that size

  • @wannabeKeithMoon

You can make it as tall or short as you want. That just means the whole thing would be wider. I did all the designs and calculations myself for where each corner pvc piece should go to make all the pipe ends come out in 2 bunches like you can see in the video.

  • @m00100101 my email is the1andonlygarbagecan@yahoo.com

  • @m00100101 could you send me it

  • @m00100101

    that is really cool.

  • @m00100101 oh yeah man. i love blue man group and always wanted do something this.

  • how tall is that?

  • @wannabeKeithMoon At least 5 feet. I'm 5'7" so just compare it to my height. I don't know exactly.

  • loving it!

  • I sent you a message could you send the instructions. Thanks

  • cool

  • what octaves are you in?

  • sounds like a casio keyboard 80s style ,,,great vid man

  • The beginning kind of reminds me off Bass I Love You.

  • 1.55!!!

  • AWESOME 8D

  • Fantastic!

  • is it still for sale?

  • @always0missing0her Yes it is for sale. Do you live near Milwaukee?

  • @m00100101 No. I live in Kentucky

  • @m00100101 Could you possibly Email me detailed instructions on the length size and placment of PVC?

  • @always0missing0her If you message me your email address, I will send you the spreadsheet that I used with all the dimensions you could possibly need. That goes for anyone looking for "instructions."

  • Ohes. Like totally BlueMans.

  • Eriely relaxing...........

  • I've just built up a 7 pvc tube instrument, spending money only in the tubes, ten metal bridles and some metal plates to lint them. The base structure is made of recycled pieces of metal and wood. A few meters of fibre reinforced tape and some foam rubber was also needed.

Total money spent: 60$. I wonder the price of the one on this video may be over 300$ not thinking on the base structure.

  • cool man

  • It's really quite loud!

  • about how loud would you say this is?

  • Sounds great, but also sounds like he was just making it up as he went along. Not bad tho, I certainly can't do it, so Bravo!

  • "This is just me messing around on the pipes" I think that means he was improvising.

  • FAN Freakin' TASTIC!!

  • Sounds like a bass guitar. Sweet

  • HUIHUIHUIHUIHUIHUI

  • That's pretty sweet. I'm wondering how did you tune the pipes?

  • i would like to hear "Take a look around" aka mission impossible theme

  • Good Sound...

    and good player

    try play some classic song

  • Sweet! That's it, I'm headed to Home Depot!

  • @ebbtuber fuck no go to menards

  • very nice

  • nice

  • its that ONLY pvc pipes??? or is there something in it???

im from holland so my english isnt good

  • only PVC pipes.

  • wooo GRANDISSIMO !!!!!!!

  • how bout $500, why u dont like them anymore??

  • how much would u sell this for, i would totally buy this

  • $1000 or make an offer, I would totally sell this

  • @m00100101 $20 and i pay shippin and hadlin

  • how much did making one that size cost you to make?plz reply

  • about $400 for the pipes, wood, and all the hardwarre. (plus 3 months of labor)

  • O M G. Thats pretty expensive and long work for just some pipes...

  • fucking good basses :B!

  • thongophone!!!

  • @purpleshoes that sounds wrong

  • why? you use thongs to hit the pipes .. we made one at school a couple of years ago

  • @Denali567 i think it was meant to

  • you should run one to head-height and play didgeridoo at the same time. it would make an awesome addition. and all it takes is what you already have, pvc pipes. (maybe some wax for the mouthpiece)

  • what are your mallets?

  • I run two or three Youtube sessions at once of this dude. Each subsequent session at slightly later times. A one person Blue Man group.

  • Thank-you

  • What are you using to hit the pipe. Plz respon thanks.

  • What are you using for the wackers? Thanks

  • that intro riff is quite epic

  • SO damm Cool! Awesome job on assembly (assuming you made it yourself) and on execution of the song! Thanks and keep it up!

  • how do i makre 1?

  • como hacer uno de esos???

  • nice sound! oegaboega from holland wants to know what youre using for stick's... in our video starship groove by oegaboega you can see we had to settle for too slippers and they did not play verry accurate as yu can hear... can you give us a tip? greetz from holland

  • reminds me of that techno off grandmas boy lol

  • are you afraid of it?

  • sounds like a keyboard, an electric one!

  • I saw Blue Man Group playing something similar...it's not a fake, folks. (5*'s to you sir)

  • Comment removed

  • yes, look up nate true. On his website he has a formula for the length of pipe you need, and it's relatively simple, well, until you get to the corners!

  • how did you figure out what lengths to cute the tubes to get them in tune?

  • Nice!

  • Perhaps I didn't lurk enough but are there any plans or formulas for making this thing? thanks in advance.

  • You are really fucking cool. I want to make one, I would be playing mine all day. :D

  • niice :)

  • ... cotrabass drainpipe !

  • Looks like an awesome setup. How do determine the length of each tube? Is it just trial and error, or can you calculate the proper length?

  • AND COMING UP NEXT ON KZAC NEWS.Meet meet a local teen who plays an unusual instrument......in an unrelated story Sunnyvale trailer park flooded after Tuesdays heavy rains. it appears all the park's drainage pipe was stolen weeks before and the thieves are still at large... back to you Tina.

  • Lol man that was hilarious sereasly i laughed for like na hour :D

  • @crabtrap

    lol, Tina

  • what do you use to strike the pipes??

  • I think its some kind of rubber like silicon or something so that the air is pushed nicely :) byt its my apinion so...

  • cell foam is what you are ment to use, rubber gives that slapping sound.

  • es lo mas estupido q he podido ver pegarle a unos tubos de pvc

  • That was Awesome!!!

  • I see a little kid plunking on a piano.

The fact that he built that is cool, though.

  • are those amplified? if so make a tut how to put amplifier plugs on them :)

  • Hey can you make another video that shows us the shape of the hand sticks? I'm really curious how you built the thing too. You made it have a fascinating sound. Great job.

  • That was an awesome instrument, sounds good too :)

  • I've always wanted to build something like that.

What is the approximate cost of that?

I'm guessing like $300 if you bought the materials at Lowe's or Home Depot.

  • awesome

  • Everytime I hear this I think of the end of "Windowlicker" by Aphex Twin.

  • Defiitely a "Future Blue Man Grouper"!

  • Great
