  • when is someone going to write a book?

  • OH, WOW!! Thanks for posting this! Hardly ever followed the Grammy Awards ever but I was at a friend's place during the Grammys that year and she was wouldn't miss the show for the world. Loved this band and this song and had to down another shot of Jack to get over the fact that Culture Club won in this category.

  • The mix on this was... less than ideal i guess but it's still an interesting clip

  • @1hamachi100 you're a fucking moron

  • @1hamachi100 The point of my channel is to use these recordings of rare Big Country TV appearances and share them with the world for other fans to enjoy. This is what my whole channel is about - very rare clips of Big Country- now preserved for archival sake.

I'm sad you think it's a terrible upload, many thousands of Big Country fans who have seen this clip finally after I uploaded it in 2008 after waiting 24 years from it's initial broadcast would disagree.

    You can't please everybody, huh!?

  • @1hamachi100 Let me give you a little perspective. I recorded this off the TV in 1984 onto a VHS cassette. Probably not a great quality VHS cassette because in 1984 I was only 14 so couldn't really afford top quality tapes. It then stayed that way, deteriorating like old VHS cassettes do for nearly 25 years when I decided to transfer these videos onto DVD to preserve them so they would deteriorate no further.

  • @BC1000stars I have this whole show on Beta.

    lol.

This is the one where Eddie Murphy hosted and they got ZZtop beards on the whole audience?

  • @BC1000stars my mistake-I just remembered. That was the 1st annual MTV music awards.

  • @BC1000stars HA! totally ur effort is much appreciated tell em to go watch vevo justin beiber vids to fuffil his hunger for lapping up some digital vomit thanks 4 archiving all this this is awesome

  • @BC1000stars

Thanks for posting this. It shows you love the band and the music.

  • Aye, my boys! 4:09

Still, gets my heart up in my throat after all these long years.

  • Well, I guess my username tells it all. Sad that Stuarts alcoholproblem ruined the band.

  • I'm 27 years old and only heard this song for the first time early in 2011.Fell in love with the song and the acoustics.I listen to this track constantly.

  • @TheMeganizm I was too young to know them when they first came out. Didn't discover this song till 2006 & had it on loop play 24/7, hahaha

  • @MisterBeaucoup This track is very addictive!!

  • such a good voice

  • I saw them in '84...just superb live !

  • Truly the last Grammy show I enjoyed! Watched it from start to finish. I was 13-and-a-half! I haven't watched it in over 20 years! Why bother?

  • Real music lives forever and flash in the pan trash eventually fades away. Those running the grammy's are and always have been clueless jerk offs in suits.

  • Best Grammy performance of all time!

  • God bless you Stuart!

  • que grupo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It would be a nice change for the Grammies to actually have some real talent present for once.

And they didn't win. They got beaten by Culture Club. What a joke.

  • I was actually was on stage witrh them.

  • lOVE u STU

  • On your day Stuart. I love and miss you!!!

  • This was the performance that got me started in Big Country in 1984. Been a fan ever since and collected all their releases. I never get tired of listening to this song, it cheers me up everytime. Thanks for posting this video.

  • i remember watching this on tv when i was in my teens....oh wow..im old. lol

  • Magnificent ! The sheer energy ! Totally amazing !

How he can dance, kick, jump AND play that lead line at the same time !

Stuart Adamson you are awesome !

  • I had forgot that they sung at the "Michael Jackson" I mean, Grammy Awards in 84.

  • Damn I remember this.......

  • This was a very passionate performance from Big Country! :)

  • I still recall thinking this was, by far, the best performance of the night.

  • when I saw this, I was totally thunderstruck. I was like wow, who

are these guy's. I was blown away by thier incredible sound and high energy. Before hand I never heard the song or knew how they were supposed to sound,or about thier sound troubles that day.But despite thier sound problem they rocked the place more than anyone else there.Who cares who won the award. Maby these guy's should've won but at least we got to feel thier awesome power. Awards mean nothing but great sound is everything

  • tHE GUITARS SOUNDED LIKE BAGPIPES, AMMMMMAZING!

  • Ssssha!

  • hope you are at peace now stuart. you left a legacy of brilliant music. "In a Big Country" was one of the things that brought my now wife and I together. Loved the Skids as well.

  • anybody know what kinds of effects he/they were using on this tune? sounds like a pretty short delay with lots of repeats, a chorus and maybe a mod ringer or something.

  • Remember reading an interview Stuart gave not long after the show commenting that it was difficult for Big Country to get their usual superb live sound, cos the organizers were too concerned about treating the big guest stars well, and less concerned with the acoustics and they had very little time to soundcheck. They did a bloody good job then! Stay Alive!!

  • @BC1000stars That is funny you mention that. I was there as a 20 years old college kid living in LA,My uncle was doing the sound for the Grammys that year and apparently all the crew loved Big Country, so he said they did everything in their power to get the right sound but to no avail becouse of what you mentioned about "The Big Stars"..I heard a lot of theses big stars we're "butt hurt" becouse Big Country got a lot more attention than some of these "Big Stars" at the Grammys! Take That!! goBC

  • @BC1000stars I recall watching this performance as well. The only other act I recall performing on this Grammy show is X.....so much for big stars. No one else was memorable , Big Country & X stand the test of time.

  • @BC1000stars They did get a better sound on SNL. I don't think I ever heard a louder band on that show.

  • This is awesome, all right. Culture Club winning a Grammy over these guys was a joke. I was an instant fan and remained so for life.

  • THE BEST MUSIC EVER THE 80"S

  • Could never decide which part of the instrumental I liked best: Stuart's soaring guitar at the end, or Tony Butler's bass playing. Both are instantly hummable, lol! Amazing.

  • This band is awesome.Oh this takes me back.

  • Culture club won?

Wow, that just goes to prove that all those awards

    shows mean nothing.

How many legion still sing BC? How many CC?

  • Yeah, what a joke. Real talent comes a distant second to hype and gimmicks. Was the same back then, is the same now.

  • @BC1000stars EXACTLY. RIP STUART

  • no shit...what were people thinking?? fucking boy queer george...............

  • @markse4444 I remember them both but I'm still singing "In A Big Country".

  • @markse4444

Yip. once again a victory for style over substance

  • @markse4444 Isn't a further irony that the Culture Club drummer had actually drummed at one time for nascent BC? Maybe I just dreamt that, I don't know.

  • I remember watching this and turning the t.v. sooooo dang loud This a awsome performance and they should have won the Grammy instead of Culture Club !! Stu and the gang truly rocked the place !! RIP Stu

  • listen to that sweet distortion when Stu kicks in the pedal at 1:16. So raw

  • Beautiful performance, so much energy it makes me want to grab my guitar right now. The ending looks just like the end of the video. Luv it. people, please show this music to everyone!

  • come up screaming!

  • Could never get bored of watching these vids. awesome stuff.

  • Awesome!!! I was wondering when someone was going to post this. Great post! No finer group of musicians, period.

  • never saw this before! absolutely brilliant as ever. stuart is a legend. pity he never got the reccognition he deserved. RIP Stuart. Max

  • Thank you for posting this. I remember watching this back in 84 and now I can finally watch it again.

  • they are so good

  • Thanx sooo bleedin' much! Fantastic!!!

  • so unique!

  • Thanks for posting this. I remember watching this live and being totally blown away by the sound and power and performance, been a fan ever since. Too bad they're only known for this song in the US.

  • Yeah, it's kind of the same story in Australia... so sad cos they were so damn good!

  • brilliant!finally found it!thanks!
