OH, WOW!! Thanks for posting this! Hardly ever followed the Grammy Awards ever but I was at a friend's place during the Grammys that year and she was wouldn't miss the show for the world. Loved this band and this song and had to down another shot of Jack to get over the fact that Culture Club won in this category.
@1hamachi100 The point of my channel is to use these recordings of rare Big Country TV appearances and share them with the world for other fans to enjoy. This is what my whole channel is about - very rare clips of Big Country- now preserved for archival sake.
I'm sad you think it's a terrible upload, many thousands of Big Country fans who have seen this clip finally after I uploaded it in 2008 after waiting 24 years from it's initial broadcast would disagree.
@1hamachi100 Let me give you a little perspective. I recorded this off the TV in 1984 onto a VHS cassette. Probably not a great quality VHS cassette because in 1984 I was only 14 so couldn't really afford top quality tapes. It then stayed that way, deteriorating like old VHS cassettes do for nearly 25 years when I decided to transfer these videos onto DVD to preserve them so they would deteriorate no further.
@BC1000stars HA! totally ur effort is much appreciated tell em to go watch vevo justin beiber vids to fuffil his hunger for lapping up some digital vomit thanks 4 archiving all this this is awesome
I'm 27 years old and only heard this song for the first time early in 2011.Fell in love with the song and the acoustics.I listen to this track constantly.
Real music lives forever and flash in the pan trash eventually fades away. Those running the grammy's are and always have been clueless jerk offs in suits.
This was the performance that got me started in Big Country in 1984. Been a fan ever since and collected all their releases. I never get tired of listening to this song, it cheers me up everytime. Thanks for posting this video.
when I saw this, I was totally thunderstruck. I was like wow, who
are these guy's. I was blown away by thier incredible sound and high energy. Before hand I never heard the song or knew how they were supposed to sound,or about thier sound troubles that day.But despite thier sound problem they rocked the place more than anyone else there.Who cares who won the award. Maby these guy's should've won but at least we got to feel thier awesome power. Awards mean nothing but great sound is everything
hope you are at peace now stuart. you left a legacy of brilliant music. "In a Big Country" was one of the things that brought my now wife and I together. Loved the Skids as well.
anybody know what kinds of effects he/they were using on this tune? sounds like a pretty short delay with lots of repeats, a chorus and maybe a mod ringer or something.
Remember reading an interview Stuart gave not long after the show commenting that it was difficult for Big Country to get their usual superb live sound, cos the organizers were too concerned about treating the big guest stars well, and less concerned with the acoustics and they had very little time to soundcheck. They did a bloody good job then! Stay Alive!!
@BC1000stars That is funny you mention that. I was there as a 20 years old college kid living in LA,My uncle was doing the sound for the Grammys that year and apparently all the crew loved Big Country, so he said they did everything in their power to get the right sound but to no avail becouse of what you mentioned about "The Big Stars"..I heard a lot of theses big stars we're "butt hurt" becouse Big Country got a lot more attention than some of these "Big Stars" at the Grammys! Take That!! goBC
@BC1000stars I recall watching this performance as well. The only other act I recall performing on this Grammy show is X.....so much for big stars. No one else was memorable , Big Country & X stand the test of time.
Could never decide which part of the instrumental I liked best: Stuart's soaring guitar at the end, or Tony Butler's bass playing. Both are instantly hummable, lol! Amazing.
@markse4444 Isn't a further irony that the Culture Club drummer had actually drummed at one time for nascent BC? Maybe I just dreamt that, I don't know.
I remember watching this and turning the t.v. sooooo dang loud This a awsome performance and they should have won the Grammy instead of Culture Club !! Stu and the gang truly rocked the place !! RIP Stu
Beautiful performance, so much energy it makes me want to grab my guitar right now. The ending looks just like the end of the video. Luv it. people, please show this music to everyone!
