  • You probably ruined a perfectly good Cure record for that ... just bought my Mother-in-law one for Christmas ... a Soundwagon that is, not a Cure record.

  • "Ít wil destroy your vinyl"....don't moan, it's not difficult to find an old already damaged record▬▼▬

  • This was manufactured as a joke product in response to a late 70's review in 'High Fidelity' magazine of the LIRPA VDRS (vehicular disc reproduction system) featuring a similar little car like device that played your records. This "review" by the magazine was intended as an April Fools joke (LIRPA spelled backwards is APRIL). Never the less most people believed it and asked where they could buy one.

  • I'd never use something like that to play a record. Hell, I don't even like to play LPs on my portable Wildcat player. How does that little gadget get the forward momentum needed to keep it from skipping?

  • This has to be one the most creative ways to destroy a record!

  • Speaking of vinyl killing, my sis picked me up a 4-disc set of 78s for me to play on my acoustic Victrolas...except they were VINYL 78s! What the heck, the music stunk anyway so I tried one. You can actually *see* the grooves being shaved away as the record spins, ouch. Oh well they still sound pretty good for the first 2 or 3 plays and my Vics can't reproduce the high notes that are being ground off anyway : )

  • Wow how does that thing stay so 'on track', 33 record grooves are mighty fine. Surprised it doesn't just skip and slide all over the grooves. Is it just running on rubber wheels with nothing attached to the center spindle like a fine wire that I can't see, or (?)

  • Will it actually ruin your vinyl? Otherwise I might get one of those and try it on a few of my records.

  • a device like this that renders an album by 'the cure' unlistenable is a bit redundant.

  • @songpool5 It's not a CD player. It's similar but uses no less than six lazers, for alignment, speed measuring, and the actual playback. And no to @jason0x21 they are only 9000 Euros.

  • Would you play the Velvet Underground's acetate with it ?

  • lolwut

  • Video with ID 4F3RfBQ4eaQ sounds like it has been driven on by this bus.

  • It can't be worse on a records than those cheap BSR turntables of the '70s. One of those could eat a record in a few plays,

  • This is going to damage your LP eventually right?

  • Painful to see a pornography LP treated so terribly. Hopefully it was already beat...

  • huuh, what's the name of the song?

  • @steurun It;s called A Strange Day ...

  • ha ha, great gimmick and what a talking point.

Sometimes all you need is a little prick to play these records..lol

  • is the needle underneath the van?

  • @Elektriber no its on the top of the van, thats why its sounding

  • If you're looking for one of these you can find one by searching for Yellow VINYL KILLER VW Bus Record Player in ebay

  • Great what's next? Reel to reel bicycle player? =D

  • Man I gotta get one, I have like 100 vinyl just sitting around that I got at a garage sell for like $10.........I know I wont like most of them so this thing would be epic to use trying them out. They are expensive though and thats weird because they dont have many expensive parts. I would like to see some big company pick them up and make them in a bunch of colors and different models. Im sure people would buy a rat rod vinyl killer. Hell they could sell them in hottopic, they sell vinyl

  • A Strange Day - The Cure nice! hopefully that doesn't damage the record man! send the album to me!! ;)

  • You come near my record collection and I'll stomp on that thing! :D

  • @arrisstuff If you some near my record collection with that piece of crap i will kill you!

  • american pickers brought me here

  • @brice449 haha same here!

  • @brice449 same here

  • American Pickers. This is hillarious. Too bad they don't have them for CDs so I could destroy some Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus Cds.

  • why do they call it the vinyl killer? Because it destroys ur records or it plays on the go?

  • @Pikachu4170 cuz it destroys them

  • @Troghen so its portable AND destroys records?

  • American pickers are bringing back the vinyl killers!!

  • @deanrasik That's how I saw it!!! XD XD Like 5 minutes ago!! XD XD XD

  • Run it backwards on the old Motley Crue / Shout At The Devil record. =) That would be interesting...

  • just saw one on American Pickers so i had to check it out. :P

  • I also just saw this on pickers!

  • @CoolHatMan100 So did I! I was waiting til teh next commercial to see this.

  • @CoolHatMan100 LOL me too. That's the only reason I ended up on youtube looking around. Gotta love American Pickers..

  • thumbs if you saw this on American Pickers

  • @Cole1494 i did

  • @Cole1494

i saw it on pawn stars

    XD

  • I'd give you the url but for some reason YT won't let me post a url as part of a message . . . ?

  • Search for "library of congress capturing recorded sound through imaging" and then click on the link & it will take you to a veritable treasure trove of information concerning research that has been undertaken by the Library of Congress and physicist Dr Carl Haber who has done most of this research. I remember dreaming about this kind of stuff 30+ years ago as a teenage record collector - of course I couldn't work out the details myself, but I wish I had written down some of the ideas! :D

  • Damn. If I see one of those I'm smashing it.

  • coolest thing ever

  • This is so wild!

I have never seen one before!

    Very cool.

Just keep them away from my records!

    Brent

  • Hey! Try this is in another record, not The Cure!

  • Haha, never seen this before. Can you make a video of it again, but driving the other way? So we hear it rewind =P

  • That actually sounds pretty cool. I may have to try that!

  • @jason0x21 You should try to find a street sweeper, that way it can clean the record at the same time!

  • I have (blue) one that I bought about 15 years ago, in Tokyo/Japan, still in it's box!

I think I've only ever used it once, I must dig it out

  • what record is this?

  • can't let this near my Abbey Road...

  • A Strange Day for The Cure record ;-(

  • talk about a toy record player

  • Is there anything one can do to prevent a vinyl killer from being a murderer when in use?

  • I had a nightmare that one of these drove to my house and mutilated my Steely Dan albums.

  • @reptar1994 Nooo! Not Steely Dan!

  • @jason0x21 I know! D: haha

  • @reptar1994 Can I have those?

  • @reptar1994 that s a bad dream for sure,,,,

  • lol that looks hilarious but you should have used something else! i love the cure and i don't have any cure vinyl...

  • Please! Don't destroy your Cure records!

  • The Cure - A Strange Day

  • @rmomomo I like techno, but only on vinyl :) Played with a real stylus, none of that laser crap. Did you know that most laser vinyl players do not play colored or picture discs!? Neither they can read through areas full of dust/grime/mold on a disc. So...Traditional Setup with Stylus 1-Laser 0

  • lmao, that's adorable and hilarious...

  • Noooo!!!! Vinyl no die!!!

Omg I have a GREEN LP!!!

1968 mono first edition. It rocks

  • i know the record player will not play that record anymore but can the van play it anymore??

  • how does that thing not slip off the groove?

  • well the needle really scratch into the rills xD that's also the reason why those vinyl killers are called vinyl killers because they destroy the rills :D

  • Michelin tires The Tires you trust ... :P

  • It's just to epic for me to comprehend! Why didn't anyone think of this in the first place!!?!

  • how does this destroy vinyl?

  • Sounds like The Cure but they weren't on A & M...

  • they did have a release on A&M actually. so yes, you do hear the cure.

shame to kill the lp with this van though.

  • oh, that is so cute? where can i buy one, most of my vinyl is scratched anyway?

  • looool soo nice

seems like it has electronic stability control :D

  • Is that a Supertramp vinyl?

  • WOW! How it works?

  • I'm sure a few plays on a plate wouldn't damage it.

  • they still haven't figure it out how to play vinyl with a laser instead of a stylus?

  • the needle on a record vibrates with the grooves in the record and the vibrations are amplified so you can hear the song on the record, it's not the same as a cd.

  • I know, but if a camera can pick up the reflection of the grooves made by a laser we can reproduce the music.

Anyway, I just found out someone has already done it.

    /watch?v=CnGh7FADitg

  • They did come out with laser turntables in the 80's, but they are very, very expensive. For professional use. I don't think they were ever perfected though.

  • They have, look up the ELPJ. Last I checked it was around $10,000 though.

  • Yes, it's called have-you-got-a-spare-$10,000? Look for ELP Laser Vinyl on google and you'll know what I'm talking about

  • Reply to peppeddu- A record that is played by a laser is called a "CD!"

  • Google "ELP turntable."

  • @peppeddu

there is an actual laser read record player, but from what I have heard it isn't that great and it is $12000

  • @peppeddu Yes, they did it. Its called the CD, DVD, BLU Ray Disk...

  • Actually, they figured out how to do that in the later 1980s. The record players are like ten thousand dollars.

  • @peppeddu But isn't the whole reason for spinning vinyl to stay as analog as possible. That's the whole reason they sound better, they haven't been converted to 1's and 0's and then back to analog. At least on my system they haven't ;-)

  • @peppeddu they did, and it's called a CD player.

  • i guess its not very good for the vinyl :D

  • does this mess up ur vinyl???

  • How many ways can I say YES?! Only use these novelty items on some old scratched up record you DON'T care about!

  • the track's called 'a strange day' from The Cure's 1982 album 'Pornography'. Some would say one of, if not their best ever work.

  • what is the song played?

  • There's a new one that looks like a Mini Cooper

  • I wonder if they could make one that doesn't kill vinyl.

  • I guess the needle and the tires ruin the grooves...cheap needle. I would love to see it play the last song on a 12 incher, near the label. would the turn's be to narrow?

  • Yeah, what is it suddenly trys to flip a U-y?

  • I found an orange vinyl LP by the cure under my stairs the other day. Its a bonus disc from "Kiss me kiss me kiss me". Apparenty its quite rare. :)

  • DID YOU KNOW THAT: vinyl killers put too much pressure on the needle and physically wreck your vinyl as it plays? well now you know

  • That's exactly why I used a spare thrift store record. The good records don't get this treatment.

  • mine slowed down and got quiet. The battery tester said my battery was fine. Mine sounds all warbly now. It is a poorly engineered cheaply made piece of crap!

  • if i had a vinyl killer id hack it into a cool looking ipod amp but thery r very hard to find and very expensive

  • why would you do that damage to a Cure album?

  • Serious question Were do U Get One Of them Proper Sik Man Rpley

  • You've clearly not tried googling "Vinyl Killer", right? It's like the second non-sponsored link.

  • Obviously Not I Didnt Know Anything About These Until I Saw Them On Hear I WasOnly Asking !!!!Now I Know GOOGLE It Online Search Cheers Any OOW

  • I'm confused - the cure - a strange day - from the album pornography. how come it's on the a&m label? yep i'm a proper train spotter! fitz - leicester england

  • Perhaps because it's an American release?

  • of course - anyway love the clip and quality choice of track, figurehead is my personal fave.
