If you haven't seen the film Man on Wire, do so. It's streaming on Netflix right now. The guerilla mission to set up the wire is almost as crazy as the walk itself.
@MrKabowski The guy who was supposed to film the walk had spent the last 2 hours trying to hoist the cable back up after Phillipe had let out too much slack on the other side, and was too exhausted to do anything but watch at that point. Petit was on the wire for a total of 45 minutes, but the support team got arrested within 10 minutes of him starting the walk (right when the cops showed up on the roof) so by the time he was rested enough to film, he was already in custody and could only watch.
petit, wallenda, i suppose they think that what they do can be likened to a swimmer in deep water...walking 5 inches or 50 feet above the ground it's the same....i dont know.
@MrIctus I just saw the documentary, Someone else in on it used an arrow to shoot the rope from 1 tower to the other tower, it landed on the corner of the other tower barely. The entire steel rope fell all the way down so they had to spend about an hour to manually get the rope back up. They did it all illegally right under the noses of WTC workers/security and took years of planning. Petit also layed down on the wire, went back and forth 8 times toying with the police, +was on it for 45 minutes
Amazing, this choked me up thinking about how the towers are not there, I bet he was sad, he had such a big smile on his face walking across. That view was like being on top of the world, so amazing.
@klc9909 Yeah, i guess heroic images and a sentimental song is what i call a certain type of video. If it doesn't move you, fine. But 600,000 views in, i really don't give a fuck.
This stuff is so played out.. did that stuff like 5 years earlier, just didn't filmed it you know.. I really did it for myself not to show anybody how cool I am..
When i think of the world trade center and all thoese people i think about what Phillipe Petit did and when he look down on new york city in 1974 i think about four guys in forest hills and queens who whould later be know as the ramones.
@j03hill16, planes over new york are pretty normal. us military had enough time to search the air for another plane and to take it down just before it got on land and crashed into the second tower!
sick bastards askin if thats the plane that hit the tower have some fucking respect so many innocent people lost their lives just remember that. R.I.P
@SteveOwen01 I do too. It's hard to believe they're really gone. It seems weird to see pictures of the towers in the NYC skyline and such and go to the city and not see them there. I was only 6 when the attacks happened, but I remember it like it was yesterday.
-how in the world did they get that pole up there?
-if he falls will his friends be accomplices?
-it's called man on wire but he's on a tight rope?
This is a great film by the way. He and his "team" had to sneak everything up there and it was extremely difficult. He spent a couple hours on the tightrope and cops and everyone couldn't do a thing to stop him until he stepped back onto the roof. What's sad is he was so high up that folks could barely see!
@minamu8 Yes so what? But you don't think it would be funny? Just imagine it he's walking on a tight rope between the two buildings and then all of a sudden he sees an airplane flying right at him I crack up just thinking about it LOL
who says that this is 'fake' or 'hoax', should simply recall the columns on news paper of that day, the doc 'man on wire', and the book 'let the great world spin' di colum maccann........welcome to the era of internet....where people talk and talk and isn't able to look for a simple information like this...
@schazers1 I've watched it, it's crazy. The months of planning and the development of it was scary enough, then he performed the greatest stunt of all time - 8 times! Petit makes me proud to be human.
@SiameseChemise why you keep saying it's false you idiot. my god your a truly moron. write his name on google. just on wikipedia we can read this Philippe Petit (born 13 August 1949 in Nemours, Seine-et-Marne) is a French high wire artist who gained fame for his high-wire walk between the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City on 7 August 1974.
@A135S4656 The terrorists do not hate this building, they hate the American government because they wanna be the ruler of the whole world! God bless all the 9/11 victims! I think the Twin Tower's belong to new york! They live there and they die there, but i wish they would rebuild ,as they would do with the White house or even the empire state building!
They should re-build the towers. they were destoryed by the bad people because they represented freedom, joy, business, finance, fun, tourism, amazement, etc., and what they hate is what we love.
So NOT re-building them is like saying that we hate our freedom, joy, buisness, finance, fun, tourism, and amazement of being 107 stories in the air, etc.
@merchin0made0easy Well there's going to be 7 new towers, but I still think that at least SOMEWHERE they should re-build these towers. Chicago, Louisiana, LA, Las Vegas, I don't care as long as they're still in America. 90% of people want those same old twin towers re-built, but even if they don't, sometime in life I am going to these new towers, I'd like try and go into everything they have in each of those towers, especially if they have free wifi.
