I simply can't believe some people would say that this man is evil. He, like any other monks I've met, are some of the most peaceful people I have ever seen.
VILXAN: Hi. Very good point. 'Evil/Good' is a very deceptive duo, being that they are viewed according to someone's perceptions, especially around religious beliefs. I don't believe 'evil/good' exists in nature, but are merely labels we attach to things/events that are 'agreeable/disagreeable' to us. What do you think?
@Satori1800 people often do evil things because of ignorance, ailments and powerful circumstances. A lot of evil people can't feel empathy and other normal emotions and use violence and cruelty to fill a void and or because they have deep seated rage.
... they are saying it is because the Peace & Love radiating from this man challenge them in the deepest spots ... look at some of the rabid language of Islamic extremists (AND their so-called Buddhist 'defenders') ... the Truth speaks to them direct, and they are SCARED!
@yadsik wouldn't you call them simple buddhists? a boddhisattva is someone who's already achieved enlightenment - very rare, even for monks - and then chooses at his/her deathbed to be reincarnated anyway for the sake of helping the rest of humanity.
@yadsik and @genericusername337 How would you even know someone has attained enlightenment? And does it really matter? It is not based on having any particular meditation experience, no matter how profound. As Ajahn Chah described them, meditative states are not important in themselves. Meditation is a way to quiet the mind so you can practice all day long wherever you are; see when there is grasping or aversion, clinging or suffering; and then let it go. What’s left is enlightenment.
@MrMbodhi I was referring to 'Bhumis' which are a way of equating Bodhisattvas along the lines of Sottapanna to Arhatship.
I think these delineations are generally given in clarification to specific questions and not intended to be used as instructions on how to engage in meditation or the like.
Thank you for sharing Ajahn Brahm's "talks"! He brings a wonderful modern and western interpretation to his understanding and presentation of the principles of Buddhism. In the west we must be ready for this, because "when the student is ready, the teacher will appear! Thank you.
Ajahn Brahm belongs to one of the very rare authentic enlightened human beings who speaks out of experience and a deeper understanding resulting from a strong meditative practice. Every word is so true and clear, yet so deep and meaniful....Wonderful!!
I wish for those people that they will experience goodness in their own life so that they can recognize it.

As always a superb dhamma talk.
But I wonder what is the audience saying

It sounds like it might be in Thai but not

@genericusername337 Bodhisattvas all haven't attained enlightenment, but by the 6th level (of 11) they have.
