  • ポゴレリチのこの、スカルラッティは素晴らしいです。CDは呼吸をすることさえ、忘れる程すごいです。

  • Absolutely amazing...I love this performance!!!

  • Genius

  • de gustibus non dispudendem, dudes

  • I suspect that the comments below were actually made by highly educated and cultured people who had to do much research and practice hard to simulate YouTube trash-talk.

  • only a russian pianist can play like this :)

  • @iWillBlockYou

    He is actually Serbian, :)

  • @kalumander really? my bad...

  • shit performance. maxim mrvica shits all over his face..

  • @EITrollo

I am sure you have hear only for Maxim Mrvica, Nigel Kennedy and Vengerov, as for the pianists, Maxim Mrvica plays good, but he is more of a poser,

listen no Richter, Emil Gilels, Glenn Gould, etc, those are the real deal :)

  • @kalumander richter is dull, gilels is ok, gould is a butcher. mrvica is a real virtuoso, as well as vengerov.

  • @EITrollo

    ok, ok, BUT!,

that's your opinion, everyone has a right to have his own one

if we are talking about REAL pianists, there is no place for Mrvica, so sshhhhh..,

I am not going to comment about those words you described Richter, Gilels, Gould, etc

  • @kalumander mrvica is the real deal and he has the best technique of all the players you mentioned. you know shit about music my friend. and yes, you have the right to your own opinion but it's a shitty, incompetent opinion.

  • @EITrollo

Well, maybe my opinion is incompetent, but you are for sure indecent vile and scurf,

your place isn't here, so please stop using those insults as a man of poor education.

  • @kalumander i am more educated than u u dummy. and i will talk what i want where i want. got it?

  • @EITrollo

Why are you so certain :)

    Are you a clairvoyant?

  • @kalumander among other things, yes. besides, i know what my qualities are, and i can easily see your weaknesses and limitations so it's not that hard for me to know.

  • @EITrollo oh tough guy on the internet everyone watch out!

  • @zipper978 you better do, nancy boy.

  • They way he holds his hands is so unique and his fingers are so powerful!!

  • Absolutely lovely, delicate and perfectly played..a true delight everytime I listen! (& watch)

    What a blessing!

  • Ivo plays this Scarlatti Sonata L.366 is the best in the world. What a beautiful tone, this is the best I've ever heard on this piece. Bravo~~~~~

  • Very cute! (the pianist and the music, of course!)

  • This is the sixth time I've listened to this piece in a row. What a refinement, this was definitely a successful concert for Pogo!

  • absolutely wonderful, sublime, genial, sensitive, incredible playing. So light and so SCARLATTI!

  • HIs hands are, in a word : "spideresk"

  • What a great pianist!

    What a great musician!

What a pity Ivo stopped concerting...

  • @aomf58 Actually he didn't stop concerting..Last year I saw him in Thassaloniki, Greece playing Rachmaninoff's 2nd with the Thessaloniki State Orch. And I have to say I was really disappointed..He is not anymore the ultimate Ivo I always loved.. really sad... :(

  • @salserogriego Sadly, I think he still be upset from his wife's death.

  • Only person that can stand up to Martha herself.

  • Perfect.

  • Is he deaf?

  • @MrSharpAss mmmm what?

  • @hellboyreloaded yeah, I'm asking if he's deaf or not. Because many People say that he's deaf. Is that true?

  • @MrSharpAss no, he's not deaf.

  • @MrSharpAss

Pogorelich is not deaf, but he is blind (color). He can't distinguish between the black and white keys on the piano so he has to use feel to play.

  • @DrMarianus Total BS!

  • @MrSharpAss not it's not true ofcourse!

  • Wonderful!

  • Hohh!! i love that sequence!

  • So wonderful and light...full of joy... amazing to watch as well!!!

  • My god, this is making me cry.

  • @ritamargherita glad not to be alonee...

  • Can it get any better (?)

  • He looks so serious or so full off wisdom at the end...

  • Much movement above the knuckles,

    Such calm above the palms,

    Few signs of physical struggle,

    In these Pogorelich psalms.

  • Such a great performance.

  • In the Chopin Competitions in Warsaw he was an 80's fashion victim but here he looks like an 18th century man.

  • really great, what else?

  • Broken cracked hands and fingers.. T h e y are like little b o x e s and every note is being transported to piano t o u c h "individually "..That means they do not m i x in the hand..So " p u r e " is t h e T O N E..( i n the true s o u n d..) E v e r y shot of " s o u n d " is created individually..

  • Have you noticed how small and shallow the keyboard seems with his hands on it?!

But it is what he does with them that matters, eh...an amazing pianist!

  • i never liked scarlatti until i heard porgorelich play this piece.

  • I have stumbled on a flame war about concert pianists.

The internet is an amazing place.

  • che classe!!!

  • Pogorelich and horowitz are both good? yes? i think so. jeez, lighten up people.

  • Horowitz is a legend - Pogorelich is not well known. Somehow he wasted his talent.

  • @maxhansendk Pogorelich is pretty well known. And he is damn good playing baroque music. Far better than Horowitz.

  • @turbonelli I think 99% will disagree with you about this matter. The one procent being you. Pogorelich could have been great - But maybe that was not his destiny.

HOROWITZ IS A GIANT! -NO PIANIST COMES CLOSE TO HIM! AND THEY KNOW IT!

  • @maxhansendk I truely disagree. Pogorelich is far better than Horowitz in any possible aspect. The level of perfection that he achieves with his performance is second to none. I really don't think that you know to appreciate his performance and abilities well enough.

He is a true genius [So was Horowitz but I still think Pogorelich went few steps even further]

**And he is a legend by his own and very well know around the globe.

  • @pila406 99% of people who study the art of piano don´t put Pogorelich anywhere close to Horowitz!

As I said before, Pogorelich could have been up there to (at a distance)...But, alas...that was not his fate.

Now bring on 5 well known classical music critics who thinks Pogorelich is better then Horowitz!

    Ha, ha...Good luck.

  • @pila406 Sorry pila406 You are alone in your opinion!!

99,99% of people who knows about piano playing think Horowitz is SUPERIOR to Pogorelich!...this will not change for the forseeable future.

  • @maxhansendk i dread to think where you pulled that statistic from, it's cute when people make up things to try and win an argument that ultimately comes down to subjective taste and nothing more.

  • @turbonelli Another 0,001% opinion. Well it´s worth nothing! Pogorelich will never be anywhere close to Horowitz when it comes to playing the piano.

  • @maxhansendk On what basis do you make that judgement. Horowitz will never come close to Pogorelich when it comes to chopin, nor will anybody. Pogorelich has his unique style which differs to that of horowitz, the comparison of the 2 pianists is a stupid one. Pogorelich plays scarlatti in the classical style, horowitz plays scarlatti in a romantic style, it's a preference of the artist

  • POGORELICH LOST ALL IN THE END

  • so clean

  • Dès les premières mesures on est convaincu par la justesse de son interprétation.

Scarlatti n'est pas évident à jouer.

  • Scarlatti wrote those sonatas simply for exercises and

now many people love it. I think Scarlatti didn't even knew what

an amazing musician he actually was :D

  • pogorelich is an as-hole...

but his scarlatti performences are the best

    in my opinion.

you can see how he fakes his smiles after given the flowers...

  • wow

  • His soft sound and pianissimi remind Edwin Fischer

  • Pogorelich's approach is much more authentic than that of Horowitz, who made everything sound like Rachmaninoff.

  • my favourite Scarlatti's sonata. Scarlatti was a genius and Pogorelich too.

  • So interesting the way he just cuddle the music, using the piano like if it was a little injured bird.

    So lovely.

  • i don't think he got a proper welcome on the stage...

    i mean the flowers!!!!

  • I think he dumped the flowers where he received them and left them there LOL :P

  • hahahah

  • miraculously beautiul (he's no favorite of mine either -- but yikes, he is a unique genius!)

  • I do not like IP as a person, particularly, nor do I care for every one of his performances, but this one is beautiful and flawless, IMO.

  • just perfection with meaning!

  • ASTONISHING!!!

  • I'm extremely envious of this audience.

  • So damn good it's sickening to see, that tone he is creating and the thrills he make are so perfect. I just finished playing this myself but I mean finished in what sense, if it should sound like this I am no where near finished.

  • everything about this precious work of art--Ivo--is sickening in the best sense of the word. Head to toe, inside out, and last but not least, his inhuman pianism.

  • @M3sslah i know! I don't know how he gets that sound!! Its been eluding me forever. I "know" the piece, but I'm still in the process of getting the sound he gets here o_o

  • @cfwpiano you do a rather hard hit on the keys however instead of holding it, you lift your finger as soon makes sound. this creates as loud sound the drowns out very quickly.

  • @UniverseCrab you don't "lift your finger" , you let the natural reflex of the finger carry it off the key for you. In a sense, you 'Relax' the finger and let the keyboard action flick your finger back to its relaxed position. Glenn Gould talks about this.

  • Bravo!

  • Impeccable phrasing.

  • The thing is that Pogorelich probably don't care for Philips , since he has special contract with Deutsche grammophon. On the other hand, Philips might not use his performances.

  • No offense to pianists like Clifford Curzon, Radu Lupu, Eschenbach, Barenboim, Gulda, Kovacevic, Yudina, etc. (just my personal preference), but surely they could've made at least single space for Pogorelich on Philips' Great Pianists of the 20th Century Project - especially Kissin, Zimerman, Kocsis, Schiff and Gavrilov made it depsite their relative youth at the time.

  • Was Pogorelich already well known at this time?

  • The Phillips project was launched commercially in 1999. To the best of my knowledge, I think he released at least a dozen CDs by then (and ironically, none after '99). He was incredibly popular in the 80s, but that died quickly. Pity. His recordings of Gaspard, Prokofiev's 6th, the Haydn Sonatas, the Scarlatti, and the Chopin Preludes could have easily filled the minimum, 2CD per artist concept for the project.

  • hm... Then you're right, I agree.

Another commented lack, even if not so notorious, is Guiomar Novaes.

  • I agree with you 100%. It's a complete and utter atrocity.

  • One hell of a concert. Holy shit.

  • it sounds very good and clean

  • I've always admired Pogorelich for his ability to play any piece of music flawlessly and effortlessly.

  • I am so proud that i come from the same land that he does!!!! He is genial!! But on harphe sounds also veeery nice!

  • Scarlatti must be smiling from above

  • @Zoloft61 Rather wondering what that black hunk of wood is :P

  • He makes it look so simple, man he is good.

  • I dream of High Fidelity sound on all the videos of this kind..... Anyway this performance almost trascends the lack of good quality sound......

  • F*****G AWESOME, YEAH!

  • Incredible. I knew Pogorelich was good, I didn't know he was that good.

That little pause at 2:41 - terrific.

  • 0:39

  • I'm not sure what trenaboix means to say in his poor English. "Retardniness"? Does he mean that Pogorelich is a strange individual? A psychotic? Better not to write in English if you don't understand the language.

  • when was this recorded

  • great playing amazing

  • The greatest living pianist captured here at the height of his powers. I would rather hear one phrase performed by this genius than any of the self indulgent, unimaginative banging of today's so called pianists.

  • One might say there's some "retardniness" in this comment.

  • to trenabolx - well, put aside your english language mastering,I dare say that your comment sounds a bit off topic..........

Eventhough I can get your point :)

  • no seriously people. i know you all like him and all. and I must confess i like him alot too. But its just an observation that i presented. Whether you like that comment or not but there is obvious retardniness in his face. just same if i said "oh i see hes wearing a tux" or "his hair is brown".

  • to trenabox - may be he simply is a rather shy guy who wouldn't feel comfortable on the stage in front of a standing ovation...

But surfing on the web I came across an interesting interview with him.Take a look

    at it.

  • Great play! But this Sonate sounds better with the guitar

  • GUITAR?! OMG

  • vai po caralho ó raul

  • yes on te guitar are really better because the sound of an harpschord is more closer to a guitar than a piano.

  • Yes, however those are trascription...

  • LOVE

  • モテモテじゃのう

  • FANTASTICO

  • troppo veloce...con la chitarra è più bella

  • Sono d'accordo. Io la suono con la chitarra

  • Wonderful! So many different ways to play the piano - Horowitz's fingers are almost flat, and Pogorelich's are almost curling under.

  • after watching Horowits and Pogorelich, it taught me that I can appreciate the art of piano more since everybody has their own way of playing. I am a piano major and my prof tell me I should curl my fingers more, but then it takes my focus off the music bc im trying to curl my fingers. Either way, it will still sound beautiful!

  • horowitz is extremely strong which makes that possible

  • Divine!

  • LMAO Look at all the Jap chicks squirming to see and touch Ivo. LMAO Ivo your a stud

  • senza parole!

Verry good playing

  • Are you crazy? What does the history of Chinese writing has to do with Scarlatti?

  • i had no idea it took that many characters to say ver good playing!! :P

Beautiful!

  • I dont wanna sound crazy but it sounds a bit like gould!it just reminds me of his touch!

  • Music -written-; becomes a "Toy" -made of sound-in his HANDS..

If it is "written";& Known; then it can be made "a TOY"..

  • If you have "B r o k e n" Finger positions;then I can say, written music notes are on the way to piano currently;& they can wait in "broken FingerS" instead of waiting in the brain. So He has a Finger Memory,I can say..Notes of score are not in his brain;they are in his "BrokENfingers" that means they are outside ;& ready to be made; SOUND..

So his SOUND control is perfect; AWAY From the affects & strains of his Brain..

  • Music is in his hands; not in his brainSo there is silance on his face when playing Piano.

This means other performers "live" music in them..but here ,we HEAR The TOY of Music 4 US to play..If something is "a Toy" then,U can free yourself from the souls of performers ..

Music is free,is "A Free TOY";4 our brains to play with it.

..because musicIsWith performers:;I must listen to the music from the composers or Imust"throw up"

    "performerSouls"mixture.byMyİmprovisation's expression in My Hands

  • Music is a TOY 4 Our EARS; first...

Then there comes our brain our souls;& e.c.t.

..but a mature child can play with it all the WAY through.

So "music as a TOY" is "adequate"; 4 who is Adequate..

  • lay off the lsd

  • English. Please. QUiiit-$WRITing lieek thiS

  • Beautiful. I love Scarlatti in the hands of Horowitz, Casadesus, Argerich and Zacharias, but this is pure magic of its own kind.

  • Maybe for a moment, you can think about Pogorelich's music not about what the media made him look like. He is a great genius, and one of the most original musicians ever.

  • hahaha,random genius

  • parfait...belle interprétation et quelle aisance dans le touché..

  • love his trills

  • sublime...I have two windows open, designing a website on the left, and Pogerelich and Scarlatti on the right. It's become a new habit, it hasn't sunk in yet how many cool music vids there are on YouTube, I wish Gould was still alive... I'm sure he would have had his own page...and would have written back to us too. Saw Pogerelich in RFH in London playing Chopin. When he recorded the English suites not so long ago, bought it, and like it as much as Gould. I wish he would play more Baroque.

  • To my mind his touch and general interpretation is as near perfect as anyone could expact. The only other person I've seen come near to this is Ralph Kirkpatrick himself.

  • The play may be clear but ashamed that he has not got beautiful and relaxed hands playing .... this gives me much much tension to look at them ...... and I have difficulty to enjoy his playing...... I am sorry

  • This is an other good point."not relaxed hands".."I call them ugly hands"..just like in a "drama",beautiful needs the be based on "ugly" side to become pure..

I can Still hear it very beautiful..you need to learn ugly side,,first to enjoy the beautiful SIDE..

Don't mention who say "beautiful" don't need WORK..and work seems UGLY.

  • or I can say that,if you are looking at beautifully relaxed, hands ;then "beautiful" is based on the image,,but maybe "beautiful image" doesn't sound GOOD in Sound hearing..

Something must collect all of the "ugly" on itself,,so beautiful can s h i n e like a Crazy Diamond..

An other Point;: if Porn wasn't this "ugly" should sex be so beautiful like heaven..

  • his "fingers" are acting; like they were "broken" some time ago, or cracked by his brain..to fit the parts of "quantum mechanics"..or the parts of "musical writing letters"..

İmagine a diamond..It's surface is cracked or broken to reflect,,all; every light...

  • BAROQUE can be said as "irregularly shaped PEARL"..İf you can not be Fast and think much,,Baroque goes to "CLASSİSİSM".

Here we have necklace made of very "regular"ly

    revolved PEARLS..

Soft as "Water flowing through you brain"..

  • I love this guy - my parents' Deutsch Grammophone CD of him playing Scarlatti is one of my favourite albums ever.

I've never heard someone match his crystal-clear way of hitting a note.

  • Frozen Gello in a Plaster Cast surrounded by dessicated toast crumbs from 1957.

  • Maybe it must be the way you are telling us,how to look at the vision of this music but I want to listen to this peace when I need peace just before,I go bad for a relaxed slipping..A very gentle touch to my soul..and brain..

  • hi Smith, I am not sure i understand your comment here, don't you like it? I like it very much, listen to his "toucher", like horowitz, he has almost total control on dynamics for each finger... his performance is very fresh in my ears, ...

  • Dear Marcel,I worked may years as a guitarist to free myself of "guitarrism".He has beautiful fingers, but there is no baroque phrasing or expressivity here.I'm glad it gives you joy though.Regards,Me

  • Dear Marcel,The Guitar Equivalent of this at Youtube is John William's Plays Bach BWV 1006.

As a young guitarrsit I had to work a lot to get past my admiration of his fine technique to hear how empty it is.

  • His Fingers can be,"very thin" here.Although his fingers are "thick as a Mummified antic person",,or say a dinosaur's,,(Wide enough to overwhelm "any particular thin note")..

Martha Argerich, must have been saw this "thinness" that he can chose,,from entire scala of notes ,colors and tones..

Very good "white balance" in music hearing leasts good in brain, for it can come to our eyes,,too..

  • Space between Piano,Scarlatti,"Thinking Scarlatti",Ivo,Ivo thinking..Music & us,Piano & us e.c.t. purely high quality..

May be japans listening made, this effect.but Ivo carries it..

  • You can not even think while Scarlatti is thinking.Very hermaphroditic indeed.and when playing, Scarlatti's "Thinking" you must be female and give your imagination and b e sensitive, not to touch neither him,nor his "thinking"..

  • I totally agree.Every thing you say.Especially the "a mummified set of hands",was what I had thought.too.but isn't this the most sterilized thing to do..Classical approach produces "man thinking" about something.A layer between man and nature.and it must be hermaphroditic or even barren..No sex organs,,there.

  • Does anyone know if this was an all-Baroque concert? I feel bad for whoever voiced that piano for him. It must have taken hours. I get the idea. He's trying to make it sound like some kind of harpsichord. It doesn't.

The playing is very pretty, very prissy, and sounds nothing like Scarlatti. It's like an autopsy on the music.

  • When you are "picturing" the "composer himself" on the Piano,,you must play the sonata Classical.A classical picturing.& here we have this.but when you play what is being described in the music,,you must play it in Baroque Ecol.

  • well, I do not know his recordings, but this performance is great...
