ALL Americans should oppose this treaty. I'm sure it is helpful in other parts of the world where children do not enjoy the rights and protections they presently have in the US. We have laws, courts and mandatory reporting of abuse/neglect by various professionals in the US. All of this will be pushed aside by the UN and foreign sentiments of what proper child rearing is if we allow this treaty to be ratified. Remember, any ratified treaty becomes the supreme law of the land.
Am I REALLY to believe that right-wing douchebag groups like Parental Rights, the JBS and so many others are SOOO much smarter than the rest of the world community in blocking passage of this? Do you REALLY think the UN would just sweep in and suddenly create some kind of anti-parent Gestapo in the U.S. if we ratified it? It's ludicrous! baseless! If more liberal nations in places like Europe had any reason to believe that, they wouldn't ratify it! Nor would more conservative ones like Japan.
Bitching so much about the CRC also shows an ASTOUNDING ignorance when it comes to WHY this whole campaign was started. It was started to help prevent things like child trafficking, child prostitution, child labor, etc. It was NOT envisioned as a way to "uproot kids from their homes and put them in the state's care."
Besides, why SHOULDN'T children have some degree of autonomy? Who says parents are dictators?? They are STEWARDS of their children. Kids are not slaves or servants.
God forbid a child should get a little bit of freedom and not have his parent, esp. when he's a teenager and approaching 18 years of age, to dictate EVERY LITTLE FUCKING PART OF HIS LIFE like he can't think for himself and make responsible decisions on his own. The opposition to the CRC is MADNESS! You don't like the fact that it would REMOVE your ability to control your child, like the good authoritarians that you are.
Hell, the concepts of adolescence and choosing 18 as the age for adulthood are primarily WESTERN inventions that are a byproduct of the Industrial Revolution. Back in the day, 'children' as young as 11 or 12 were easily integrated into adulthood, and they were given the responsibilities and ability to be their own people. Now, we've created nonsense like "adolescent" or "teen culture" and all sorts of bullshit that just further infantilizes them and separates them from adulthood.
The vast majority of civilizations, esp. ones that are more tribal and less industrial, before the last 200 or 300 years, DID NOT accept or see any reason to separate their children's lives into a fictional period known as "adolescence." Yes, there still is PHYSICAL puberty (because the body takes a while to develop and transition from childlike to adultlike), but adolescence as a social and mental concept was nonexistent. It was primarily invented by Progressives in the West.
The problem is that in industrial societies when a person becomes a preteen and esp. a teen, he or she WANTS a lot more freedom to make his or her own decisions, but they do not GET that freedom until long after the advent of adolescence. And why?? Because we've invented this silly abstraction known as "teenager" or "adolescent" and forced them into that box. We don't let them be adults, and we do all we can to make it known that they are still 'children' and not autonomous individuals.
As someone who supports individual liberty, esp. the freedom of conscience (like not being forced to be indoctrinated into your parents' religion), I'm all for this! It's high time parents learn their place and stop treating children as servants (at least the conservative ones, that is) or playthings.
The CRC MAY be abused (as with ANY new law), but I highly doubt it will have the hyperbolic consequences right-wing groups claim.
One of the main reasons many "parental rights" groups use for attacking this (seriously, lol) is that "it allows a child to have freedom to choose his religion." And that's a problem... why? Seriously WTF
You REALLY think it's ok to force your kid to believe in God and be religious even when he doesn't evenfucking understand it at, say, 4 years old? come on... That's sick. Let the 'child' determine his religious beliefs when he gets old enough to think for himself.
Another "Reason" is that it would supposedly force nations to spend less on defense and more on child services or pro-child programs. WHOOP DE DOO! Hey, I'm all for protecting kids, and if the gov't can help, why not?? Things like SCHIP are pretty fucking necessary. Is the military-industrial complex and War in Iraq REALLY more worthwhile than spending money on children's health?? come on, conservatives. You can't be that heartless and ridiculous.
Ook... A mandatory gun-free environment is a problem WHY??
Yes, I know that you gun nuts think it will "prevent people from being armed in case of an emergency like Columbine", but seriously... WHEN has anyone with a concealed carry permit carrying a gun in the event of an emergency like that EVER used it to stop an attacker? It didn't happen with Columbine, the Virginia Tech shooter, the Fort Hood shooting OR the Arizona shootings. The Arizona concealed carry guy ALMOST killed the wrong guy!!
Those scenarios don't happen nearly as often as you think. They're fantasies, for the most part. As for the "mandatory sex ed" crap, get a fucking grip. Most sex ed starts in middle or high school, when the kids are well able to think for themselves and learn how to be responsible. How DARE a parent pretend like the kid isn't able to learn about things like safe sex and be safe. Besides, IT'S JUST SEX! We all do it. It's a normal part of human existence. God. prudes
"Gov't official assigned at birth"? WTF does that even mean? SHOW ME where in the treaty anything like that is indicated. so you REALLY think that the UN or u.s. gov't is going to hire MILLIONS of new employees to monitor every fucking newborn and his life?? that's just nonsense. Impossible to enforce.
And how disgusting must you people be to get CHILDREN in your video to make them pretend like they REALLY oppose this, like a bunch of Uncle Tom blacks speaking up for white racists. sickening
Yes... young children speaking out in a video in favor of "parental rights" and a treaty that would GIVE THEM (the children) MORE RIGHTS to be free and able to make their own decisions. What child would fucking say no to that?? I certainly wouldn't.
"To enforce the ideological whims of the UN" Which include: anti-child prostitution, anti-human trafficking, anti-violence, anti-indoctrination, and so on. You guys REALLY need to quit acting like the UN is this liberal boogeyman. jesus
That "committee" of 18 people in Switzerland? Why don't you ASK the nations surrounding Switzerland that have already ratified the CRC about it? I highly doubt they'll tell you, "This committee is a travesty! Look what they're doing to parental rights and our children." I have yet to see any major foreign news stories about it. You're just fearmongering, as conservatives are wont to do.
I'm pretty sure the U.S. has ratified at least ONE of these major "conventions" or "declarations" you conservatives so hate. Yet we HAVE NOT gone down this spiraling gov't abyss or "liberal abyss" where gov't takes everyone kid's away, forces everyone to radical feminists, etc. THAT'S NOT HOW THESE TREATIES WORK! The treaties are steps TOWARDS getting their ultimate goals, not binding contracts that force nations to be at the whims of small committees of UN bureaucrats. This is such a lie.
Every nation that's part of the UN except for (if I recall) the U.S. and Somalia (a serious human rights violator that's still kind of in chaos and has no strong central gov't) has ratified this!!!! This is a MUST. The only people who oppose this are paranoid idiots who believe that this will allow "the state" to "take away your kids" (nonsense) and/or far-right ultra-religious parents who want their kids to be slaves rather than actual children who they must guide and take care of responsibly
From Article 18 of the convention: "Governments must respect the responsibility of parents for providing appropriate guidance to their children – the Convention does not take responsibility for children away from their parents and give more authority to governments. It places a responsibility on governments to provide support services to parents, especially if both parents work outside the home."
You should not make up outright lies about the convention, just because you disagree with it.
You can't better protect children by taking parents out of the picture. And children are too young to exercise the rights their parents and other adults have. "Children's rights" is an excuse for putting *government* in control of children *instead* of parents.
Look at the examples where similar thinking is present: Lenin wanted parents separated from children; Hitler similarly; Castro's Cuba takes children from age 12 for nine months at a time to indoctrinate them fully in the "Revolution".
It's funny: the U.N. supports the "reproductive rights" of parents (i.e. abortion), yet once those parents choose to become parents they have to be told how to parent. In the civilised world people already know what is bad for children. This can only be to criminalise & politicise the parenting methods and beliefs parents with to raise their children with.
A parent can teach their child that theists are insane and Marx was a great guy. It's none of my business.
Say what you will, but handing over this kind of power to foreign entities to govern US citizens is just lunacy. If there are things in this the nation just feels it can't do without then make it so under US law.
But personally I am so very leery of laws coming between parents & their children regardless of where they come from.
faceless, spineless, bitter bureaucrats. Afraid to defend their actions before an open forum. Pitiful.
Western society must remove any and all socialist/feminist-leaning philosophy and influence from academia, public schools and the workplace in order to set us on the right path to sustainable growth and stable communities.
Ugh, this video makes me spin. Not only do you fail to clearly illustrate how the UNCRC will "damage" American childrens' upbringing, you distastefully use children in your video to recite lines and ideas that they clearly do not fully grasp. So regardless of inability to properly articulate an intelligent argument against the UNCRC, viewers should look down upon you distorting truths and manufacturing lines read by children for your own political gains. Shame on you.
From the comments I read, the US doesn't want the UN telling them how to live, just like other countries don't like the US telling them what's acceptable.
Your interpretations of the UN Convention is incorrect and misguided. Most countries ratify with conditions that apply specifically to their country. This is an injustice of misinterpretation of this convention -- and the damage it is doing to children cannot be measured.
USA doesn't want to sign on because it does not want to have to answer to the abuses it has inflicted on children around the world. Children in Iraq are not collateral damage.
US also neglects a huge percentage of its own child population, lets children die if they can't afford medication, withholds legal rights from minors who it associates with terrorism (while withholding evidence from the public and the accused), and has not addressed the increasing systematic neglect of racial children
@jam31688 Signing the UNCRC would not make the US responsible for war damage in Iraq in a more significant way than it is now. No child dies in America due to lack of medicine, and we are all Americans, there is no such thing as racial children. Please do a little research before you write another comment!
@jam31688 We dont want to sign it because we dont want our children to be taken away from us and put in communist indocrtination camps and made to starve to death for "the greater good" Like in Russia.
Nice bringing up communist healthcare BTW. We HAVE Universal healthcare in Massachusetts and in Maine and other parts of the country. It fails everytime and they turn away sick children just like the NHS does.
@jam31688 You would let your own child be unstructed, I mean instructed, by faceless socialists who are likely anti-Christian in ideology? Pathetic excuse for a parent who would abdicate oversight of their own child's education to faceless bureaucrats.
@luvkrafft children will be educated about a lot of things in school. Including possibly the theory of evolution amongst other things. I do not believe in the theory of evolution, but I would also not be afraid of my child being taught what it is becuase it will increase their ability to be objective. Also, parents are responsible for bringing up their children and can teach them whatever they believe in. However, parents cannot/should not try to prevent kids from learning other opinions. Choice
@jam31688 Missing my point. Many, many people are abhored at the track record of the socialist United Nations being anti-male, anti-western and supporting dictatorships, wasteful spending etc.
The point is, parental sovereignty is being undermined, and if you have a problem with that, I charge that you are either a leftist socialist, or a bad parent.
USA doesn't want to sign on because it does not want to have to answer to the abuses it has inflicted on children around the world. Children in Iraq are not collateral damage.

This group should force enforce human right laws, which exist and US law, also in existence.
The Muslims who are brainwashing their kids to hate and murder are breaking human rights laws. The koran, when taught, as we all see, leads to terrorism, so first ban this book, which is political while claiming religion.
All of the parents who call for sharia law (first the US gov't must be overthrown) are traitors, according to the US Constitution Article 3. These parents must be jailed & deported.
@sandj912 you were not hatched out of an egg for a reson: You need parents to guide you and protect your fundamental rights. In the rare case that parents are abusive or neglectful, we have laws that set in motion a system to protect you. The best way to ensure the "fundamental rights of children" is to ensure parents can do their jobs as parents.
What is the "compelling interest test" referenced in article 2 of the Amendment??? Is this a back door way for US enities to get control over US children and or restrick US parents rights??? Please respond to my questions...Thank you...

@gunnyranger2 Americans voted for socialism in Nov. '08. How soon the world forgets how the Hollywood, storybook black, articulate, handsome Presidential candidate swooped Americans off their feet....they didn't listen to his message. This will change very soon. (Nov 2, 2010)
Amazing how they always seem to select a title or name for thier crazy bills that make them sound so benign and so caring...some of those bills have sent young girls off for abortions without ever even contacting the parents. Its rotten enough to have your own goverment decide how your child will be raised..but a foreign government? Now thats demoralizing. Just check out the morals of the children of someof those governments...it will curl your hair.
@DavidH373 Child protection services already takes care of kids with abusive parents. The UNCRC has nothing to do with protecting children from bad parents, at least not in the US or Europe, it's about social engineering.
@seville1978 It's just fluff. I get that. The part you call social engineering is probably what I call a good thing. Anyone saved from overexposure to crazy cults or religions or other forms of brainwashing is another step in the right direction. Most of what I found for benefit in the treaty was that children have the right to study the religion they choose, and not the religion they are really forced into by parental and peer pressure within their communities or schools.
@DavidH373 No David it's not just fluff,I had dealings with MARY BETH FEINDT who is an advocate to the rights of the child who personally affected my case in a divorce as I did a factual You-Tube video pertaining to her travels and teachings. She lied in court and also on a sworn affidavit if you do not believe me just go to MARY BETH FEINDT Dot Com.PAIN AND CHECK OUT MY VIDEOS,COMMIE LAW GUARDIAN AND ROCHESTER NY ,KIDS COURT ROOM HOSTAGES.
@seville1978 You mistake the nature of the religious experience. No parent can force a child to become religious. He may teach them certain things that they are free to reject as adults (except muslim women who have no rights). All adults consciously choose their faith at some moment in their lives, wether via conversion experience or study. Children cannot choose their faith, they'll simply be manipulated by someone, who not being their parents, will not have their best interest in mind.
@minnesotastategop I don't have kids. I don't want to have biological children. I'll adopt one of the millions around the world in need of food and shelter before I'm selfish like you and populate the world further into starvation. Enjoy that thought lol.
@DavidH373 Im not the one who wants to brand any parent abusive simply for teaching their kids pro american pro christian values and spends other people's money so parasites like you can avoid working.
@minnesotastategop Where did you get "so parasites like you can avoid working." I edit video and put together special effects for a living. It is quite disturbing to me to teach a child who can't think for itself any religion or non-religion. They should be completely open minded about that decision when they are older. I also don't know where you got that I am against teaching "Pro-American" values. I like America, I just don't like a lot of the paranoid idiots that live here, or anywhere else.
@DavidH373 It is quite disturbing to me to teach a child who can't think for itself any religion or non-religion.
Yet you want to brand anyone who is religious and opposes the UN and socialism and defends the constitution as crazy and have the state come and take them away like Germany did to Melisa \Busecros. Doesnt sound open minded to me. LOL! Liberals are the least open minded people in the world! I like America
Then stop supporting the UN and socialism and join the right side.
@minnesotastategop You are putting words in my mouth and saying I approve of action I do not. You are either a troll, or a psychopath. I've voted democrat once for president, once for senate, but I will not vote democrat every time I vote.
I don't have a problem with religious people, and I do not wish imprisonment upon them. I do not feel supporting socialism and the UN is a bad thing. If you can cite reliable sources to convince me otherwise, I would be happy to take a look at them.
@DavidH373 You don't? So you were living in a cave when the Berlin wall fell and socialism went kaput in Russia? It never occured to you that taking profits from small businesses might cause layoffs and pay cuts and that welfare money is used to subsidize crime and drug alcohol addictions?
The UN is a joke. They recently condemned the Karen tribe in Burma as terrorists for trying to overthrow their dictatorship, United nations watch was almost banned for condemning Iran's holocaust denial
First of all, Russia was Communist and a dictatorship. Socialism is not defined as requiring a dictator. Also, in a proper socialism there wouldn't be a monetary system, there would be a reward system. As far as the comments on Welfare, and Business, I don't know how they have any relevance in our debate on socialism, as welfare is part of a democratic system currently, and it is logical fallacy to say that a small scale implementation of something would work the same as the full.
@DavidH373 (continued)conference all while saying nothing to condemn a representative from Iran who openly denied it happened. Add to this, they put Libya, Sudan, onthe human rights panel, both countries totalitarian the later a genocidal Muslim dictatorship that has killed millions since the 80s. I recommend in addition to looking up UN watch, you research Agenda 21, the Venus project, and the small arms treaty.
@minnesotastategop Also, where do you get that I spend other people's money? I work for my own money as explained previously. You sir, seem to be making a lot of assumptions...
@DavidH373 where do you get that I spend other people's money? You obviously vote for liberal democrat idiots who raise my taxes, print money to destroy the dollar and decrease the value of my savings, redistribute wealth all to pay for welfare parasites in housing projects who refuse to work like the rest of us. Instead of tithing to a christian charity like I do you have the government come in and take it out of our economy to give to people who mainly don't need it.
@minnesotastategop Umm... no, because as I said I'm not having biological children. I'm getting snipped up down there a.s.a.p. The whole "M*%$er F***er thing was uncalled for.
@nhstategop This actually protects the rights of a child and undermines your's to brainwash and abuse them if they are logical enough to go to somebody and tell on you. That's all.
@DavidH373 Your comments are truly sad. You must be one of those mental Liberals that try to justify "the means to an end" or some B.S. like Liberals always do. Its unbelievable how people with these twisted ways of thinking can be so anti-America- when the MAJORITY of us can clearly see what's going on. And it AINT CONSTITUTIONAL!! Our very FREEDOMS AND LIBERTIES are in dire jeopardy when our sovereignty is finally STRIPPED completely!
@DavidH373 SO you believe the state should brainwash children into becoming communists and reporting their parents for harboring anti government thoughts or attitudes.
Your child has as right to grow up enslaved to the whims of the state in the name of the greater good and live in squalor and poverty just like all the other nations that are in lock step with the Socialist United Nations Your child has a right to earn little while those in charge live off of them. They have the right to be euthanized by force when they become to old to work or are crippled. This is for the greater good or all. the peoples state. For all world citizens.
@minnesotastategop And our children will also have the right to go to school with apes and zulus who will rape our daughters and murder our sons daily. Our children if they are white or latino will have the right to be excluded as secondclass citizens in favor of monkeys and chimpanzees even more than ever
@dominicanjtfer I don't think chimps are allowed in public schools... although there might be some dumb kids who are about as smart. I don't think there are too many schools that wouldn't frown upon rape either... Maybe Christian schools... since a lot of them rape a child's mind with "facts" that God definitely exists and some guy came here on a suicide mission to get tortured and brutalized for us to live in a boring paradise for all eternity.
Your child has a right to be free of any mention of the word God other than a curse word. The right to be forced to remain godless under penalty of death
Your child has a right to be forced into mandatory mental health screening run by communist doctors who will brand him/her mentally incompitent if he/she does not agree with the tenents of socialism in addition forced to take toxic drugs.
Your child has a right when they grow up to loose all the fruits of their labor for the greater good.
Your child has a right to grow up in a marxist country with no freedom of speech, no freedom of the press and has the right to be sent to a holocaust style camp if he/she is suspected of harboring evil thoughts like freedom liberty or belief in God.
Your child has the right to be indoctrinated into becoming a pervert by other perverts and being forced to be brainwashed that promiscuity and prostitution are acceptable.
Your child has a right to be a drug addict and booze hound
First of all, the government (unelected in this case)will be the parent not you. Dont like it, you lose them.
Your child has a right to be forced to go to a communist indoctrination center (school) to be dumbed down, and conditioned to become loyal marxist who will never question authority and grow up to become an illiterate factory worker.
Your child has a right to be defensless and live in an unarmed house where criminals can get them and you.
It's intended to be a global effort... to protect the children of the world. There's a whole world out there, you know. You don't agree with all the countries of the world mandating that all their children have access to food, clean water, and medicine? To be informed and educated? As a Christian, I think Jesus would be a fan of the UNCRC.
To date, only the U.S. and Somalia have not ratified. Somalia doesn't even have a real government.
Take a breather, stop being such a sensationalist. No one is taking your kids away, and nobody wants to. The Chinese aren't out to get the US, and frankly their kids are pretty healthy (and better educated). Russia isn't communist, go back to 1989. We have universal health care in Canada and are rated a better country in living standards than the US. Oh yeah, and I've lived in the US. I'm sick of listening to people like you who clearly don't know what they're talking about.
@steenmachine So you consider children who live in communist China in slums and farms with no hot water or electricity to be better off? Yeah... well at least they have universal healthcare. So did liu Xiaobo. I've lived in the US. I'm sick of listening to people like you who clearly don't know what they're talking about.
Coming from a marxist idiot who thinks were better off enslaved to the state in slums like those children in China.

Jesus made it quite clear that the answer to the world's probelms were not with the government. The best way to help the children of the world is to increase liberty. The more globalization, the less individual liberty we will have. That is a historical fact. Nations should protect their own children because it is the right thing to do. It has nothing to do with the UN.

@seville1978 I live in Canada and nobody is telling us how to raise our kids. We can go to church, have guns in our homes (with permits) and discipline appropriately. The only thing this does is protect those children who are treated unfairly. People who practice child abuse may just need someone to tell them how to raise their kids.
The US already has laws forbidding child abuse. I'm sure Canada has them too, regardless of the UN or its treaties. Civilized nations protect their children without the need for intrusion from foreign nations.
I suspect that most of you white people are more interested in the right to administer corporeal punishment to your children, or teach them any nonsense you choose, rather than to protect them from being sold into slavery or dragooned into some vicious war. The first is pernicious, but the other is criminal. Of course the first occurs all over the world. It's a "Parent's Right," isn't it? And of course, you evangelicals think it is correct, proper, and a God-given right. But the other?
As you point out, spanking and forced conscription are two entirely different things. Everything this treaty was initially intended to stop is already illegal in all western and modern nations. It's irrelevant in the US, and it does nothing to mitigate the real child abuse that is so prevalent in the third world. Neither the US nor anyone else would gain anything by ratifying it, which is why reasonable people oppose it.
@seville1978 The funny thing is, I don't think you were being disingenuous, though I was. 'Faith and Discipline,' huh? Your video reminds me a little of that old 'Shake 'N Bake' commercial, so replete with the smiling face of a child who had no idea what she was asked to do that it beggars the mind.
And it seems as though while my sarcasm probably didn't skim off your own point of view, it's obvious that I have to get down to cases, here. Specifics to follow.
I don't know why you are going on and on about spanking. This video has nothing to do with that. It has to do with foreign government intrusion into the lives of American families. If American states want to ban spanking, or anything else, so be it. We are a sovereign, democratic nation. We can ban or allow whatever we please. But the UN, or anyone else, should have no imput. Watch the video again.
@seville1978 I am against this treaty. But you do the world no favor with your erroneous statement, "We are a sovereign, democratic nation." If you are referring to The United States of America you are dead wrong. WE are not a democratic Nation. The United States of America is a REPUBLIC! I pledge allegience to the flag of The United States of America, and to The Republic for which it stands...
You are correct, the United States is a representative republic. Republics are democratic forms of government as are other forms such as parliamentary governments. By democratic we don't mean that we have a universal democracy, but that we use democratic means, voting, to elect our officials and pass our laws rather than having a tyrannical form of government make all decisions for us.
@seville1978 We have a democratic voting system yet a Majority Limited government that is supposed to restrict the Majority for dishonoring the rights of the Individual.
This is a key difference from that of a Democracy that should never be overlooked.
@seville1978 Our Republic government is supposed to prevent the Majority from dishonoring the rights of the Individual. Our Founding Fathers were very clear on this. It is a key difference from that of a democracy thus should never be overlooked.
@seville1978 We have a democratic voting system. Our Republic government is supposed to prevent the Majority from dishonoring the rights of the Individual. Our Founding Fathers were very clear on this. It is a key difference from that of a democracy thus should never be overlooked.
@seville1978 Point #1, which you have entirely missed. You do NOT have the right to do physical harm in any way, shape, or form, for any reason whatsoever, and that includes spanking. My God, don't you see, it's like striking an animal, and children are just like dogs, they will love you, no matter how badly they are treated, but the consequences of their mistreatment are just enormous. Huge. Beyond all conception, especially when people are so self righteous as to think they deserved it.
The UN's agenda? The UN is a non-governmental organization. It has no authority over ANY nation. The US is on the security council of the UN and is one of the most powerful country amongst the members of the UN. When has the UN ever forced the US to agree to do anything? Don't talk about things you clearly don't know. As a fellow American, it's embarrassing. Go outside the States and we're the laughing stock of the world.
Since we fund the UN, I guess it technically can't force us in to anything, but the UN has its ways of forcing less developed nations into all sorts of things. A case in point is how it uses threats to withdraw aid from nations who don't follow the "suggestions" in CEDAW. The US is quite capable of governing itself, and we should not agree to any treaties whose clear intentions are social engineering.
Children deserve the right to a protective environment. That means one in with a gun. There was a lot to piss me off in that video about the crap the UN is pulling, but that gun-free environment BS made me mad.
Didn't Karl Marx want to break up families. The little u and little n is obsolete. We should leave the u.n., let it create it's own filthy world without us.

okay, the entire point of the UN is international cooperation for the betterment of all. As a UN Member state, your country gets a say in that committee. So no, it's not a "foreign" committee deciding your way of life. And stop saying "foreign" like it's a dirty word, the world needs more cooperation and less mistrust and anger. The idea of opposing a charter meant to protect the rights of children across the world and prevent such things as child soldiers and child slavery baffles me utterly.
The problem with this treaty is that it is abslutely unnecessary in a democratic nation (any child soldiers in Canada to be rescued?) , and it does nothing to help children in third world countries who truly need help. And when it comes to the laws of any democratic country, "foreign" is a dirty word. The people of sovereign, democratic nations have a right to rule themselves, In the US, we still believe that.
"point of the UN is international cooperation for the betterment of all."
Actually we were told it was made to be a place where nations could come to together to talk & discuss their differences. But according to the men who gave us the UN it was an organization to help bring about a one-world government. This is what the People were not told.
"As a UN Member state, your country gets a say in that committee"
You mean we have "a say" in our own domestic affairs & polices? WOW, THANKS!
"it's not a "foreign" committee deciding your way of life"
You mean the UN is made up of people from my country whom I elected? News to me.
"stop saying "foreign" like it's a dirty word"
It is a dirty word. Foreigners are always trying to subvert our domestic & foreign policy, they lie & bribe to get our taxpayers' money, and they badmouth us every chance they get.
"the world needs more cooperation and less mistrust"
So things are worse today than ever before? I don't think so.
"The idea of opposing a charter meant to protect the rights of children across the world and prevent such things as child soldiers and child slavery baffles me utterly"
That's because you don't realize we already have such laws here in the United States. If other countries wanted to have those laws they would have passed them already. So, finally, what's the point in the UN mandating things in my country? What really is the agenda? I already know, I just want to hear it from you (propaganda).
The UNCRC is either on the back burner or being worked on under the radar. It's hard to tell. There are 6 senators and 129 representatives currently supporting the Parental Rights Amendment. Imagine that, only 6 senators can bring themselves to support parental rights!
Maybe. Could be Some God we've never heard of, could be God is dead. We don't know for sure, and your showing of insecurity in that tells me you are afraid of not knowing. So you babble and yell a lot...
This treaty will undermine the rights of Americans to parent their children and the laws of the US. Our system works and children are protected in the vast majority of cases. Oppose it if you value your rights. We don't need UN officials reviewing our laws and our parents.
I'm sorry seville, but you have to admit this video has attracted some crazies at this point. Conspiracy theories and all sorts of weird quasi-spiritual government propaganda. Related videos even shows things like "The Obama deception" and "A Homeschool Family". You should be arguing against some of these people as well, because they are only diluting your point.
There are all sorts of crazies in every side of every issue. I don't think there is a giant under cover conspiracy just a socialist agenda that seeks to unduly influence children and families to create "believers." That is undemocratic, and we should all oppose it, crazy or not.
You are mixing socialism with that agenda. Socialism has nothing to do with this. There very well may be an "Agenda" but what you need to prove is whether or not that exists before the people as a whole will listen. The "Slippery Slope" argument (which many are using) is very weak. That is based on blind skepticism, not fact.
The fact of the matter is that as long as you're not doing anything wrong this barely affects you. Unless you feel that children shouldn't have rights....
The problem is that someone other than US citizens gets to decide what is "wrong." Is it intolerant ("wrong") to teach your child your faith? How about hunting, or homeschooling, or anything else the left doesn't like? Why do foreigners get to decide for us? Since when is our own democratic system not good enough? American children already have rights as defined by our laws.
They used to teach children, myself included, in public school, around this time of year, about the Pilgrims. Specifically, how they arrived in their first destination, running from "state church" persecution, another more "TOLERANT" European nation. There, they found that the Pilgrim children were picking up the licentious (for those in Rio Linda, depraved, er, corrupt) lifestyle of those natives. Pilgrims moved on to America, but I see Europe reaching now out to "touch" our children HERE, too.
Christians tend to force their values on others all the time (IE Abortion, Marriage, and Pre-marital sex). Your religion is one of the worst offenders. You can still use the argument but you must realize people who are not of your faith will frown upon that statement.
You are talking more about Catholics, who are in fact NOT Christian. It's the marriage of Christianity with paganism, the videos on Youtube entitled "Roman Empire Rules Today" goes over this.
No, it's really not just catholics, it's most everyone. Sure, some of you are silent about trying to convert others, and some just nip at people. The other day I was chatting with a baptist claiming I couldn't be happy without Jesus, and I was a very sad person. I am a very happy person just the way I am, and I wasn't saying anything to provoke this proclamation. She just all of a sudden decided it was good to flat out insult me, since it was in the name of the lord.
Both the Old and New Testaments are strongly supported by manuscript evidence (the evidence of early hand written copies). The famous Dead Sea Scrolls are one example of the Old Testament evidence. These documents came from the library of a settlement founded at Qumran before 150 B.C. and abandoned about 68 A.D. Some of the manuscript copies were made during that period, and some were written earlier (third century BC) and brought to the settlement.
Ignoring spelling-oriented (orthographic) changes and similar small differences, the Dead Sea Scrolls match the Hebrew text behind todays Old Testament, in spite of the passage of over 2,000 years (where one would expect errors to creep in). Over 20,000 known manuscripts document the New Testament text. This makes the New Testament the most reliable document of antiquity (a document written before the printing press).
These manuscripts vary in size from a part of a page to an entire Bible (Old and New Testaments). The earliest New Testament manuscripts date from the second century (100-199) AD These manuscript copies were written in different languages by people of different nationalities, cultures, and backgrounds. In spite of all those differences between them, the New Testament texts all agree.
(That is, those differences that we do observe between these hand written documents are occasional changes in the spelling of names or isolated cases of missing or changed words. Still, since we have so many copies, it is obvious to anyone but the hardened skeptic can that they all represent the same text.)
prove to me the dead sea scrolls aren't a translation already, and prove what was translated is the exact word of god (assuming god would pick a human created language to speak in). Otherwise all we can prove is the bible is old. That is all the dead sea scrolls prove. Stories of greak gods date back to 160 B.C.E. and that doesn't make them a reliable source for historical documentation.
misspellings and missed words are a HUGE deal. I could say. "I will not kill you" but someone could translate it "I will kill you". Those two statements carry completely opposite meanings and messages. So one judging off the translation would say "Gee, what an evil guy" and others judging off the original would say "oh, how forgiving". Two meanings, multiple interpretations, and depending on the rest of the story it could send different messages to different people.

Kids are not slaves or servants.
whoo689 11 months ago
God forbid a child should get a little bit of freedom and not have his parent, esp. when he's a teenager and approaching 18 years of age, to dictate EVERY LITTLE FUCKING PART OF HIS LIFE like he can't think for himself and make responsible decisions on his own. The opposition to the CRC is MADNESS! You don't like the fact that it would REMOVE your ability to control your child, like the good authoritarians that you are.
whoo689 11 months ago
Hell, the concepts of adolescence and choosing 18 as the age for adulthood are primarily WESTERN inventions that are a byproduct of the Industrial Revolution. Back in the day, 'children' as young as 11 or 12 were easily integrated into adulthood, and they were given the responsibilities and ability to be their own people. Now, we've created nonsense like "adolescent" or "teen culture" and all sorts of bullshit that just further infantilizes them and separates them from adulthood.
whoo689 11 months ago
The vast majority of civilizations, esp. ones that are more tribal and less industrial, before the last 200 or 300 years, DID NOT accept or see any reason to separate their children's lives into a fictional period known as "adolescence." Yes, there still is PHYSICAL puberty (because the body takes a while to develop and transition from childlike to adultlike), but adolescence as a social and mental concept was nonexistent. It was primarily invented by Progressives in the West.
whoo689 11 months ago
The problem is that in industrial societies when a person becomes a preteen and esp. a teen, he or she WANTS a lot more freedom to make his or her own decisions, but they do not GET that freedom until long after the advent of adolescence. And why?? Because we've invented this silly abstraction known as "teenager" or "adolescent" and forced them into that box. We don't let them be adults, and we do all we can to make it known that they are still 'children' and not autonomous individuals.
whoo689 11 months ago
As someone who supports individual liberty, esp. the freedom of conscience (like not being forced to be indoctrinated into your parents' religion), I'm all for this! It's high time parents learn their place and stop treating children as servants (at least the conservative ones, that is) or playthings.
The CRC MAY be abused (as with ANY new law), but I highly doubt it will have the hyperbolic consequences right-wing groups claim.
whoo689 11 months ago
One of the main reasons many "parental rights" groups use for attacking this (seriously, lol) is that "it allows a child to have freedom to choose his religion." And that's a problem... why? Seriously WTF
You REALLY think it's ok to force your kid to believe in God and be religious even when he doesn't evenfucking understand it at, say, 4 years old? come on... That's sick. Let the 'child' determine his religious beliefs when he gets old enough to think for himself.
whoo689 11 months ago

The Arizona concealed carry guy ALMOST killed the wrong guy!!
whoo689 11 months ago
Those scenarios don't happen nearly as often as you think. They're fantasies, for the most part. As for the "mandatory sex ed" crap, get a fucking grip. Most sex ed starts in middle or high school, when the kids are well able to think for themselves and learn how to be responsible. How DARE a parent pretend like the kid isn't able to learn about things like safe sex and be safe. Besides, IT'S JUST SEX! We all do it. It's a normal part of human existence. God. prudes

You're just fearmongering, as conservatives are wont to do.
whoo689 11 months ago
I'm pretty sure the U.S. has ratified at least ONE of these major "conventions" or "declarations" you conservatives so hate. Yet we HAVE NOT gone down this spiraling gov't abyss or "liberal abyss" where gov't takes everyone kid's away, forces everyone to radical feminists, etc. THAT'S NOT HOW THESE TREATIES WORK! The treaties are steps TOWARDS getting their ultimate goals, not binding contracts that force nations to be at the whims of small committees of UN bureaucrats. This is such a lie.
whoo689 11 months ago
Every nation that's part of the UN except for (if I recall) the U.S. and Somalia (a serious human rights violator that's still kind of in chaos and has no strong central gov't) has ratified this!!!! This is a MUST. The only people who oppose this are paranoid idiots who believe that this will allow "the state" to "take away your kids" (nonsense) and/or far-right ultra-religious parents who want their kids to be slaves rather than actual children who they must guide and take care of responsibly
whoo689 11 months ago
From Article 18 of the convention: "Governments must respect the responsibility of parents for providing appropriate guidance to their children – the Convention does not take responsibility for children away from their parents and give more authority to governments. It places a responsibility on governments to provide support services to parents, especially if both parents work outside the home."
You should not make up outright lies about the convention, just because you disagree with it.

You can't better protect children by taking parents out of the picture. And children are too young to exercise the rights their parents and other adults have. "Children's rights" is an excuse for putting *government* in control of children *instead* of parents.
Look at the examples where similar thinking is present: Lenin wanted parents separated from children; Hitler similarly; Castro's Cuba takes children from age 12 for nine months at a time to indoctrinate them fully in the "Revolution".
horsie111 11 months ago
I'm pro-choice on parenting.
It's none of my business.
horsie111 11 months ago
Say what you will, but handing over this kind of power to foreign entities to govern US citizens is just lunacy. If there are things in this the nation just feels it can't do without then make it so under US law.
But personally I am so very leery of laws coming between parents & their children regardless of where they come from.

Your interpretations of the UN Convention is incorrect and misguided. Most countries ratify with conditions that apply specifically to their country. This is an injustice of misinterpretation of this convention -- and the damage it is doing to children cannot be measured.

@AFIAFC What damage exactly is it doing to American children? (The video is about the US ratifying the UNCRC).
seville1978 1 year ago
USA doesn't want to sign on because it does not want to have to answer to the abuses it has inflicted on children around the world. Children in Iraq are not collateral damage.
US also neglects a huge percentage of its own child population, lets children die if they can't afford medication, withholds legal rights from minors who it associates with terrorism (while withholding evidence from the public and the accused), and has not addressed the increasing systematic neglect of racial children
jam31688 1 year ago
@jam31688 Signing the UNCRC would not make the US responsible for war damage in Iraq in a more significant way than it is now. No child dies in America due to lack of medicine, and we are all Americans, there is no such thing as racial children. Please do a little research before you write another comment!
seville1978 1 year ago
@jam31688 We dont want to sign it because we dont want our children to be taken away from us and put in communist indocrtination camps and made to starve to death for "the greater good" Like in Russia.
Nice bringing up communist healthcare BTW. We HAVE Universal healthcare in Massachusetts and in Maine and other parts of the country. It fails everytime and they turn away sick children just like the NHS does.

@jam31688 You would let your own child be unstructed, I mean instructed, by faceless socialists who are likely anti-Christian in ideology? Pathetic excuse for a parent who would abdicate oversight of their own child's education to faceless bureaucrats.
luvkrafft 11 months ago
@luvkrafft children will be educated about a lot of things in school. Including possibly the theory of evolution amongst other things. I do not believe in the theory of evolution, but I would also not be afraid of my child being taught what it is becuase it will increase their ability to be objective. Also, parents are responsible for bringing up their children and can teach them whatever they believe in. However, parents cannot/should not try to prevent kids from learning other opinions. Choice
jam31688 11 months ago
@jam31688 Missing my point. Many, many people are abhored at the track record of the socialist United Nations being anti-male, anti-western and supporting dictatorships, wasteful spending etc.
The point is, parental sovereignty is being undermined, and if you have a problem with that, I charge that you are either a leftist socialist, or a bad parent.

@seville1978 It's just fluff. I get that. The part you call social engineering is probably what I call a good thing. Anyone saved from overexposure to crazy cults or religions or other forms of brainwashing is another step in the right direction.

They recently condemned the Karen tribe in Burma as terrorists for trying to overthrow their dictatorship, United nations watch was almost banned for condemning Iran's holocaust denial
minnesotastategop 10 months ago
First of all, Russia was Communist and a dictatorship. Socialism is not defined as requiring a dictator. Also, in a proper socialism there wouldn't be a monetary system, there would be a reward system. As far as the comments on Welfare, and Business, I don't know how they have any relevance in our debate on socialism, as welfare is part of a democratic system currently, and it is logical fallacy to say that a small scale implementation of something would work the same as the full.

Our very FREEDOMS AND LIBERTIES are in dire jeopardy when our sovereignty is finally STRIPPED completely!

Your child has a right to be forced into mandatory mental health screening run by communist doctors who will brand him/her mentally incompitent if he/she does not agree with the tenents of socialism in addition forced to take toxic drugs.

Your child has a right to be forced to go to a communist indoctrination center (school) to be dumbed down, and conditioned to become loyal marxist who will never question authority and grow up to become an illiterate factory worker.

Jesus made it quite clear that the answer to the world's probelms were not with the government. The best way to help the children of the world is to increase liberty. The more globalization, the less individual liberty we will have. That is a historical fact. Nations should protect their own children because it is the right thing to do. It has nothing to do with the UN.

seville1978 1 year ago
@seville1978 I live in Canada and nobody is telling us how to raise our kids. We can go to church, have guns in our homes (with permits) and discipline appropriately. The only thing this does is protect those children who are treated unfairly. People who practice child abuse may just need someone to tell them how to raise their kids.
KristinMarcellina 1 year ago
The US already has laws forbidding child abuse. I'm sure Canada has them too, regardless of the UN or its treaties. Civilized nations protect their children without the need for intrusion from foreign nations.
seville1978 1 year ago
I suspect that most of you white people are more interested in the right to administer corporeal punishment to your children, or teach them any nonsense you choose, rather than to protect them from being sold into slavery or dragooned into some vicious war. The first is pernicious, but the other is criminal. Of course the first occurs all over the world. It's a "Parent's Right," isn't it? And of course, you evangelicals think it is correct, proper, and a God-given right. But the other?
ArkadyRenkovich 1 year ago
As you point out, spanking and forced conscription are two entirely different things. Everything this treaty was initially intended to stop is already illegal in all western and modern nations. It's irrelevant in the US, and it does nothing to mitigate the real child abuse that is so prevalent in the third world. Neither the US nor anyone else would gain anything by ratifying it, which is why reasonable people oppose it.
seville1978 1 year ago
@seville1978 The funny thing is, I don't think you were being disingenuous, though I was. 'Faith and Discipline,' huh? Your video reminds me a little of that old 'Shake 'N Bake' commercial, so replete with the smiling face of a child who had no idea what she was asked to do that it beggars the mind.
And it seems as though while my sarcasm probably didn't skim off your own point of view, it's obvious that I have to get down to cases, here. Specifics to follow.
ArkadyRenkovich 1 year ago
I don't know why you are going on and on about spanking. This video has nothing to do with that. It has to do with foreign government intrusion into the lives of American families. If American states want to ban spanking, or anything else, so be it. We are a sovereign, democratic nation. We can ban or allow whatever we please. But the UN, or anyone else, should have no imput. Watch the video again.
seville1978 1 year ago
@seville1978 I am against this treaty. But you do the world no favor with your erroneous statement, "We are a sovereign, democratic nation." If you are referring to The United States of America you are dead wrong. WE are not a democratic Nation. The United States of America is a REPUBLIC! I pledge allegience to the flag of The United States of America, and to The Republic for which it stands...
SkyPie3 1 year ago
You are correct, the United States is a representative republic. Republics are democratic forms of government as are other forms such as parliamentary governments. By democratic we don't mean that we have a universal democracy, but that we use democratic means, voting, to elect our officials and pass our laws rather than having a tyrannical form of government make all decisions for us.
seville1978 1 year ago
@seville1978 We have a democratic voting system yet a Majority Limited government that is supposed to restrict the Majority for dishonoring the rights of the Individual.
This is a key difference from that of a Democracy that should never be overlooked.

@seville1978 Our Republic government is supposed to prevent the Majority from dishonoring the rights of the Individual. Our Founding Fathers were very clear on this. It is a key difference from that of a democracy thus should never be overlooked.

ArkadyRenkovich 1 year ago
The UN's agenda? The UN is a non-governmental organization. It has no authority over ANY nation. The US is on the security council of the UN and is one of the most powerful country amongst the members of the UN. When has the UN ever forced the US to agree to do anything? Don't talk about things you clearly don't know. As a fellow American, it's embarrassing. Go outside the States and we're the laughing stock of the world.
vatikioticlan 1 year ago 2
Since we fund the UN, I guess it technically can't force us in to anything, but the UN has its ways of forcing less developed nations into all sorts of things. A case in point is how it uses threats to withdraw aid from nations who don't follow the "suggestions" in CEDAW. The US is quite capable of governing itself, and we should not agree to any treaties whose clear intentions are social engineering.

okay, the entire point of the UN is international cooperation for the betterment of all.
Gingerbare 2 years ago

It is a dirty word. Foreigners are always trying to subvert our domestic & foreign policy, they lie & bribe to get our taxpayers' money, and they badmouth us every chance they get.

That's because you don't realize we already have such laws here in the United States. If other countries wanted to have those laws they would have passed them already.
DavidH373 2 years ago
There are all sorts of crazies in every side of every issue. I don't think there is a giant under cover conspiracy just a socialist agenda that seeks to unduly influence children and families to create "believers." That is undemocratic, and we should all oppose it, crazy or not.
seville1978 2 years ago
You are mixing socialism with that agenda. Socialism has nothing to do with this. There very well may be an "Agenda" but what you need to prove is whether or not that exists before the people as a whole will listen. The "Slippery Slope" argument (which many are using) is very weak. That is based on blind skepticism, not fact.
DavidH373 2 years ago
The fact of the matter is that as long as you're not doing anything wrong this barely affects you. Unless you feel that children shouldn't have rights....
ibanezjuice 2 years ago
The problem is that someone other than US citizens gets to decide what is "wrong." Is it intolerant ("wrong") to teach your child your faith? How about hunting, or homeschooling, or anything else the left doesn't like? Why do foreigners get to decide for us? Since when is our own democratic system not good enough? American children already have rights as defined by our laws.
seville1978 2 years ago
They used to teach children, myself included, in public school, around this time of year, about the Pilgrims. Specifically, how they arrived in their first destination, running from "state church" persecution, another more "TOLERANT" European nation. There, they found that the Pilgrim children were picking up the licentious (for those in Rio Linda, depraved, er, corrupt) lifestyle of those natives. Pilgrims moved on to America, but I see Europe reaching now out to "touch" our children HERE, too.

Blitzbok 2 years ago
Ignoring spelling-oriented (orthographic) changes and similar small differences, the Dead Sea Scrolls match the Hebrew text behind todays Old Testament, in spite of the passage of over 2,000 years (where one would expect errors to creep in). Over 20,000 known manuscripts document the New Testament text. This makes the New Testament the most reliable document of antiquity (a document written before the printing press).
Blitzbok 2 years ago
These manuscripts vary in size from a part of a page to an entire Bible (Old and New Testaments). The earliest New Testament manuscripts date from the second century (100-199) AD These manuscript copies were written in different languages by people of different nationalities, cultures, and backgrounds. In spite of all those differences between them, the New Testament texts all agree.
Blitzbok 2 years ago
(That is, those differences that we do observe between these hand written documents are occasional changes in the spelling of names or isolated cases of missing or changed words. Still, since we have so many copies, it is obvious to anyone but the hardened skeptic can that they all represent the same text.)
Blitzbok 2 years ago
prove to me the dead sea scrolls aren't a translation already, and prove what was translated is the exact word of god (assuming god would pick a human created language to speak in). Otherwise all we can prove is the bible is old. That is all the dead sea scrolls prove. Stories of greak gods date back to 160 B.C.E. and that doesn't make them a reliable source for historical documentation.
DavidH373 2 years ago
misspellings and missed words are a HUGE deal.
