  • I was fortunate enough to see SRV at the Civic Center in Poughkeepsie NY in Nov '85. Most of his performances around this time were fueled by cocaine and bourbon, but he played the guitar with a passion rarely seen, I'm thankful for the time I got to see him.

  • what a bunch of fuckin rednecks ,what an insult to hendrix,no wonder he died in a fucking helicopter crash

  • @Ruby2052 YOUR A CUNT

  • @Ruby2052 Your sick.

  • holy crap this is amazing \m/ SRV top of the top

  • holy crap this is amazing \m/

  • I had the pleasure to see SRV 9/22/83 on the second leg of his first American tour at the Playground South in Jacksonville, Fl. I showed up at the venue with some of the local pickers. No one had ever seen this guy and all most of us knew was that he was a good player and had picked some tunes on Bowie's Let's Dance LP. He opened the two hour set with 3rd Stone from the Sun. After the tune everyone just stood there with their mouth's open. This m@#$%^&*(&$er could play...diehard fan ever since.

  • flipante

  • Stevie just beat the Fuckin' SHIT outta that guitar!!!

  • he just fucked that guitar... reeal goood

  • Man, SRV sure gave that guitar a good workout. Definitely one of the most emotional and powerful players I've ever seen.

  • The funny thing about watching this is realizing that if somebody were handed this guitar now and accidently dropped it the owners would have a complete spastic COW...

  • no one compares to hendrix and he did 40 years ago, way ahead of his time

  • nobody compares 2 jimi and he did this 40 years ago

  • Incredible can't descibe the moment captured here. Stevie Ray Vaughan understood it and he got it! I have yet to this day, to see any guitarist come close to the vibe and the spirit of what this song is all about!

God created Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan. They in turn created their soul driven craft that will never be touched for eternity! I am so blessed to see and hear...magic!

  • JIMI Was White!!!!!

  • He is hectically trying to make it work like it did for Jimi Hendrix, but he does not succeed with that mad beauty.

  • Beat that guitar like a two dollar crack hoe.

  • The only man who ever lived who's qualified to cover hendrix. I doubt we'll ever see anything quite like it again

  • he violent rapped a guitar!!!!kinda cool!

  • jimis soul is fucking via stevie's guitar and amp

  • This song goes well with a fat spliff

  • big balls.....

  • That was amazing!

  • the only three people how did this song are dead. Hendrix, Pastorius and Stevie. R.I.P. all of them.

  • @DaveGuilmour I respect what you're saying. But i have to say. Also Hillel slovak (old rhcp) did it with the peppers and please add him to those three. theres is also beautifull! Rip hillel

  • @DaveGuilmour Glad to see someone actually recognizing Pastorius for his rendition too. Right on man. They are all so damn good.

  • i love it but they didn't say the "please state your position over"

  • hey look its jimi hendrix reincarnated into a white person

  • The original is by Jimi Hendrix retards... He's the King. SRV is fucking good though. Both great people.

  • SWEET

  • left handed tremolo.... gotta love it!

  • holy shit he epicly broke a string :|

  • The King!

  • The rumor his it that #1 (guitar in the video) is buried with him.

  • His bro has it.

  • i Know that Riff..

Its From Cozy Powell ...Dance With Devil

    0:55 to 1:05 =D

Cozy Ex Drummer of Rainbow =D

  • dude! wtf is he doing!! id kill for that guitar and he just beat the dogshit out of it! oh my god.. im gonna go cry now.

  • it's his guitar!

  • He HAD to do that to sound anywhere close to JIMI!!!!!!

  • Vai in fissa!!!!!

  • Do anybody know what happened to his guitairs afther his dead?

  • the gave it to his brother, and I believe it is in a museum somewhere in texas but don't quote me on that.

  • I thought his bro had all his gear in a safe.

  • I'm pretty sure his brother gave it to a museum but i could be wrong

  • maybe he gave a couple to the museum?

  • i didnt know stevie covered this of course its a great cover lol

  • only stevie and jimi can make something sound so damn good without actually even playing the thing...

  • STEVIE RAY IST EIN GENIE:

    absolut

Jimmy Hendrix schwebt und spielt mit...

    mir läuft die gänsehaut....

    danke meister

    third stone from the sun

  • Nothing short of witchcraft by a cajun voodoo man on a vamp written by a psychedelic alien.

  • god bless hendrix for this song....

Tear that guitar a new one stevie!

  • How many Number One did Stevie had???

  • just one and only one

  • Another implication that the general public knows nothing about good music.

  • god thats so fuckin true its not even funny...

  • i thought he had more then 1 ...

  • this has literally changed my outlook on life.

  • This was my favorite video to watch when I was like 4, and it still is! But I remember I used to get scared because I couldn't stand watching Stevie beat up #1 like that! Haha!

  • he beat it so hard he broke a string poor number one

  • yeah i dunno. this isnt really some of SRV's best work... you can tell he was pretty high... i almost cried when he was beating up his #1 like that. Its like he was beating up his wife. well he was, if you think about it :S He lacked the passion i love him so much for.

well. this is just one bad show i suppose :)

all the rest are freekin amazing

    RIP stevie!

  • well that's for sure i just think it's amazing what sounds he gets out of nothing but a driven tube amp and a strat

  • yeah thats true.

i always thought there was just a lot of fuzz and crazy distortion and stuff. but turns out i could do that too, with just a strat and a whammy bar! :P and incredibly high volume ;S

  • oh shit that was mindblowing

  • 3:58 THAT POOR STRAT!!!

  • FANTASTIC!!!THANK YOU STEVIE!!!

  • Hooooooly Shit, this is gooood stuff! Didnt know Steve has played this Hendrix number, its ten times more powerfull than Voodoo chile

  • haha...watching him do that to his strat makes me hurt a little on the inside. and he looks so incredibly high

  • I'm surprized how rough he treated his # 1 strat. Unbelievable show and playing!

  • Men do crazy things in the heat of passion. . .

  • he must have been on A LOT of drugs!!

    What DVD is this?

and I don't have any SRV DVD's so what would be the best one to get? Any ideas?

  • Live at El Mocambo

  • also get Live in Austin City Limits

    Montreaux Art fest

  • if i could choose any riff to play itd be that exotic one

  • You got to remember, a guitar is called an axe. And think about how you use a woodchoppin' axe - and the fact that what it's made for is really, really using it; like beating the crap out of it to cut up firewood to keep your lily-white ass warm and possibly attract some philly that needs some warmth too, that's actually what's your axe wants you to do. Do it.

  • i love the way he smashes it!!!!!!!!!

  • haha at like 4:57 you can see a guy hiding behind the amp

  • probably like any other stage crew on other shows, haha.

but i do wonder what he was doing back there..

  • @Handonam making sure the amp didnt fall over when stevie was pressing up against it with the guitar

  • @Handonam He was holding the amp up so that Stevie could do his thing.

  • He was tuned to e flat not standerd

  • Go Stevie Go!! Jimi Hendrix squrited lighter fluid on his guitar and set it on fire during a concert!!! He didn`t like the fact that The Who got top billing over him. He said that he would put on a show that would blow away The Who. And he damn sure did!!!

  • jimi was an unknown in the u.s. the only reason he was even IN that concert was because mccartney insisted it. to say he was upset that "the who" (a worldwide group already) got top billing over him, is just ignorant. AND he got the "burning" idea from "the who" who would destroy their instruments on stage. his performance at that concert was what made jimi "JIMI". but dont let the facts get in the way of your rant.

  • Sorry about that rcarballo1, I didn`t mean to mark your comment as spam. My mistake. I meant to hit the reply button. Jimi played this piece at Monteray Pop Festival. Stevie is doing a fantastic job on it. Let`s agree that Stevie always put on a Great Show!!

  • tHAT, I believe, we can ALL agree on. I wish I had the balls to get an "SRV" tattoo like john Mayer has on his arm.....

  • The first time i saw SRV he was an unknown and opened the concert for the Police. He did 3 summersaults foward and backward, while Jamming Away on his guitar perfectly! He played behind his back and plucked the strings with his teeth!! When the Police came on stage The people screamed..Stevie..Stevie over and over untill he came out a took a bow!! No one could shine as Brightly As Stevie Ray Vaughn!!

  • amen to that doda! amen

  • I saw his tour with Jeff Beck. SRV absolutely kicked butt, and, although Beck is a great guitarist, people were chanting "Stevie" until Beck brought him out on stage with him. I got to see SRV twice, and he was absolutely overpowering.

  • Doda26: Jimi Hendrix did NOT play 3rd stone from the sun at the Monterey Pop Festival. He played Wild Thing, and incorporated a lot of feedback and acted wild during that, like SRV in this video, but he didn't play 3rd stone from the sun.

  • on and BTW. SRV soooo kicks ass!!!

  • Nice work if you can get it

  • he did what hendrix would have done

    completely mutilate his guitar

but beatiful at the same time

and whats really amazing is he has his 13 gauge

    "cables" tuned standard..shit

  • hahaha seriously. that's insane. He had to superglue the skin back on his fingers or something

  • Uhmmm actually he used Eb standard a lot of the time. Is it E standard here?

  • @machinama2112 actually he tuned down a half step

  • he started taking a break and sitting near the amp cause he broke a string.

  • This is Third Stone from the Sun. He's covering Hendrix.

  • whats the name of the song hes playing at the beggining?

  • wayyyy to much crack

  • Oh Jeez this is crazy. Brave of you Mr.Vaughan.

  • dude, I'd never do anything like that with a vintage american made guitar. I'd do all that and more with a squire, but one must commend SRV on his bravery. He did that on his #1

  • Uh, Now I know why that old 59 fender strat looks like it does. Where was his head at? Heavy Medician I guess, great tune though. a little to much roids.

  • I agree with strattosphere. Didn't he do cocaine or something? And I think this hole trashing his guitar thing is just a tribute to Hendrix. Because SRV loved Hendrix's music.

  • sorry, think i miss spoke. I think what srv did was amazing and i agree with bluesman. I just don't agree with the title of this thread. Like i said owned a few strats and watching this brings me back to the day, lol.

  • well, when u have renee martinez as ur tech u can do whatever the fuck u want with ur axe

  • Its a Strat, its tough to break & easy to fix, that wont fuck it up. It'll give it a few scratches and marks but it takes a lot to fuck up a Strat. I think they look much cooler when they're showing wear. Lets people know that its been played. Thats one of the things I love about Strats (apart from the sound of course!). You couldnt do that with a Les Paul, it would break!

  • true, fret a little too hard on a les paul, oops, sorry i need a new neck...oh but i can't because this is glued into the body...

  • I agree, a Les Paul would go crying to mama, but the Strat is like a tank. A simply built, easy to fix tank. Still, he shouldn't have done that.

  • As much as I like Stevie I hate to see this kind of stuff. Why would a great musician want to fuck up a perfectly crafted guitar like that. I love my strat to much to ever abuse it...and its not even a SRV edition!

  • Stevie was on all kinds of heavy drugs during this period in his life before he cleaned up. To him, the music was all that mattered. the guitar was merely the vehicle through which the music was to come, but it was never more than a vehicle to him. The music was all that mattered. He could afford another guitar.

  • u = retard

  • who is, strattosphere or aivilik, neither is because there both right, SRV is what strattosphere is like with his guitar when he was sober, but when he was what aivilik sais he was like then it was just a vehicle, and he just doing the same as Hendrix did, besides i don't think aivilik thinks its OK to do it i think hes just telling strattosphere why he does it, and he along with strattosphere is just making a point no ones a retard

  • ok, sorry but the "i love my strat too much" theory is blown. have u seen the fender video of stevie's guit? take a look and then get back to me about fucking up a perfectly good guitar. Have you heard of relics, lol?

  • dude im not saying it was alright for him to smash it up and NEITHER WAS HE, because it wasn't, all he was doing saying as to WHY he was smashing his guitar, and that was because LIKE HE SAID...SRV was on heavy drugs, alcohol, the whole lot in the mid 80's (when this was shot), you never saw SRV do this in the before he got hooked in the early 80's, or after for that matter in the LATE 80's, what gave you the impression either of us thought it was OK to do that is beyond me

  • I agree with you, when I first saw it on the DVD of this I was crying & whispering "Holy crap, he's wrecking the world's best guitar!" however, the abuse that "No. 1" took shows how darn tough strats are!

  • He projects so much energy into the audience.
