@boberttrain831 bob, i was going to say that you must have something wrong with your speakers, but then i got to 3:17, and you're right, her whistle pitch does sound a bit like 2317's, just not as rough. can't wait until i can go down there again! and nice vid!
@shininghappyperson7 3254 is going to be on an excursion that weekend, and i think the yard shuttle tours end that week after the 2 holiday expresses. sorry :( but don't worry, there's all of next year, and i'm looking to get mine next year, too
@koasterkidd ohh, well i would rather like to see that thing go farther than moscow than to just get in a cab, its just boring the same thing MOSCOW and Back MOSCOW and Back, why couldn't they run a REAL trip something actually real and long,With a steam engine
@shininghappyperson7 because 3254 has a problem with her axles that occurs when she pulls in reverse during longer-distance trips. the trips that she can run with no problem include Scranton-Moscow and Scranton-Viaduct. Every other trip is hard on her, and she needs a lot of maintenance for those trips. 2317 had this problem as well (going a bit off topic) but also that isn't why she was not allowed on the mainline again.
@koasterkidd i have a feeling that they aren't doing proper maintenance on their locomotives, they are probably just going to run ol '54 into the ground just like #2317. i mean the locomotives are great and i love steam town but they really need to make some improvements.
@shininghappyperson7 that isn't true. they love those machines. the problem is that they have so much on their hands. 54 is frequently taken care of, gets her FRA inspections, etc. they won't run her to the ground. believe me
@shininghappyperson7 They didn't 2317 into the ground. Its boiler time expired, and it needs a lot of work. It's been operating as an excursion locomotive since the late 70s-that's a LONG time. 3254 is, as mentioned, well-cared for. 26 had major problems before she came to Steamtown, and they were addressed/are being addressed in this overhaul. 3713 was never operated by Steamtown, and therefore her condition mechanically is not their fault. Think about what you're saying.
@yourweathertodayHD ok, well the point i was trying to get at, is that because their name is steam town and there is only one locomotive, they are depending on that one, and hoping nothing goes wrong, a place with that name and not one steam locomotive to show for it?
People,im on your side here, im just saying, they should make some changes to help out the actual cause of the place, they have alot of extra employees and a whole other museum to go with it, all of this extra stuff is taking$ to.
@shininghappyperson7 Moscow constitutes a pretty real trip in my book. 13 miles up a stiff grade, then 13 miles back down that grade. That's a ride most places can't give you.
@yourweathertodayHD yeah its pretty good but photo wise, half of the trip is in the middle of the woods, and when you are driving 5 hrs to see it, it better be something special....if you know what i mean.
Nice vid!

are they doing any work to any of their other steam engines, including the 2317????
imagreatbigman 3 months ago
@imagreatbigman Yes, they're nearing completion of 0-6-0 Baldwin #26, and continuing to make good progress on B&M #3713.

@imagreatbigman Not 100% sure, but I think it's within the next few years.

@shininghappyperson7 So you extend the trip to Tobyhanna, Gouldsboro, Cresco, etc...it's mostly the same. They have big limits on where they can go.
yourweathertodayHD 3 months ago
@yourweathertodayHD i thought that they shared the tracks with DL ??
shininghappyperson7 3 months ago
@shininghappyperson7 DL operates them. Steamtown needs to request permission to run on the line, is my understanding.
