Single payer or nationalized health care means waiting for months to see the first doctor and then add another year to see the specialist and add another 3 or 4 years for the operation or treatment. IF your condition is deemed necessary to be treated by the rationing board, death panels, and IF you will not be a useless eater after the treatment and IF you are a good party member then you will be taken care of. ALL others will be given two aspirin and call back in a week
I live in a country that has national heath care and I am just a phone call away from my doctor. Actually, I, in a way, "pay" my doctor and I have the option to choose to have another doctor IF I dont like the one I have. The doctor on the other hand gets paid by the gov to have people on hes "list".
In other words a good doctor gets paid more to keep hes patients well,less work for him and he keeps more people on his list by getting specialists fast. Prevention costs less to.
Then go and look up Stafford Hospital in Staffordshire to see how the typical hospital in England is run. Patients at Stafford were left screaming in agony, drinking from flowerpots and lying helpless in their own waste. Many waited for operations which were repeatedly postponed. When the government is THE ONLY OPTION there is no appeal there is no reprieve. Just ask the millions of Canadians that come over the border to escape the system there.

If I had to choose between the government pulling the plug on grandma, which it isn't planning on doing, and some insurance company pulling the plug, which it already has and will continue to do, I choose the government. The NHS (UK Health Service) does NOT have any panels deciding on who gets treatment. Doctors decide on a case by case basis with input from the patient, te correct course of treatment to be taken.

I think the underlying question that this debate boils down to is whether you trust the government with your health insurance or whether you trust the insurance companies. Patients at Stafford were left screaming in agony, drinking from flowerpots and lying helpless in their own waste. Many waited for operations which were repeatedly postponed. The death panel is the "advisory committe panel" found in the bill which will re-allocate funding for the terminally ill, elder and others with what the govement considers un treatable diseases. Care will be limted to the elderly and reshuffled to the young whom the govement sees as "treatable". Funds are limited so individuals will be labeled as "expendable" based on health care resources. This is how the gov will treat its citizens.

I am a British Canadian and I beleive that some people in the USA have been misinformed about both systems of healthcare.
The NHS (UK Health Service) does NOT have any panels deciding on who gets treatment. Doctors decide on a case by case basis with input from the patient, te correct course of treatment to be taken.

The politicians that are pushing the "government option" know, for a fact, that companies cannot compete with the government. The government gets to make the rules and then enforce those rules as selectively as they choose. So, when the private companies fail to compete with the rule makers, the single payer wins.

I use the postal service all the time for my shipment. I love it for the cheap price and nice people. Fedex and UPS are only good if you have a heavy item. If USPS is gone, then i am screwed and we might have an insufficient and costly postal service. Seem like the public option is the way to go.

They are playing a dangerous game, of all or nothing. As a Hispanic, our community leaders here have gathered and are still gathering scores of voters. I don't understand how they have blinded themselves to reality. They are only scaring their own party. The latino vote will decide a majority of the elections in the future, and we do not like what we are seeing and hearing from the republican party. Undecided.

Palin had a death panel in her state under her admin. and over 200 seniors died from PALIN death panel. In any of those bills there NO death panel! There is a living trust and advises you that you can or can not take that option. And the person who put thta in the bill was NOT Obama! It was a Republican from GA! So i guess what you really ment was that the Republicans are evil in it's purest form! Right?
