To let those unaware know. This is D1 Standard driving course being undertaken by 2 officers, with 2 other learners inside the vehicle and one examiner in each.
I often see the comparatively 'newer' Boxed-Sprinter (silver colouration with the usual MPS insignia) pass through our area, and I simply love their no-nonsense design. Appreciate the vid wwwrescue911de. Best wishes
@bg1379 Yeah, they aren't used very often but the most usual reason you'll see them out in the day is for training. It looks like they're on their carrier course. You have to undertake a separate driving course to drive these, after you've completed your blue light car/van (transit van) course.
The traditional Met siren with the distinct version of the tones is by a small specialist company whose name escapes me - the bars on the vans are both Whelen
thats not true..i have lived here all my life and i live close to a station..two tone has been phased out for many years now. greater manchester police still use the siren as it is traditional but not the met.
I work for the Met. As well as the usual wail and yelp, all the police vehicles ive been in also have an electronic two-tone facility, its nothing like the old FAMM air horns though. Some of the latest IRV's also have an air horn similar to what fire engines have in the US, helps with getting through the traffic
yeah i keep hearing the new us style bull horns they sound great. the two tone i mean is the classic one you know when they used ldv convoys and had just two spinning single lights?
thats the one i thought you were refering to, GMP still use that one
nah the met havent used the classic style two tones for years, The last LDV carriers the met used were the old LDV Sherpa V8's from the 80's and 90's. They were replaced by the Mercedes Sprinters in the video in 1996. I think they carried on using LDV 200 section vans up until they were replaced by VW Transporters and Transits in about 1997/98
i remember being told years ago that it was a met adopted siren system called MetSound lol duno how true that is, maybe it was like the radio system, made by Motorola but renamed 'MetRadio'

@ bg1379 These vans are often used as custody vans i.e for transporting prisoners to the police station
MrCrazyMan1993 1 year ago
@MrCrazyMan1993 Typically they're not. Thats what the ford transits are for. These ones are for moving a large amount officers around quickly.

Here in US, we don't use slow motion flow.
Y'all have motionflow cameras like it's a movie

Can someone explain why so many police officers drive around in these (often empty) vans?
I'd think with the fact that they're in a major city, they'd drive something small.

@cameronhjh
All used to chase down, what they call, dangerous criminals. (for driving without insurance.) :D

@cameronhjh You must have gone during a tension week where because of one small event the whole police is on high alert for bombs and the like.

:O what ever happened to the NeeNaw ones they have over there in Europe? I LOVE that noise!
They all had boring American sirens...

Not all of them have the two tones.

they've started phasing the old style air horns out which is a shame, however in london most police vehicles have a two-tone facility

Its amazing to think that the rear carrier has a 1996 registration, quite old for a police vehicle, love the old Met sound siren though
U5096 2 years ago
lol never knew it was from 96! Yeah i like the siren too, the good old premier hazards lol
321loverdesirohater 2 years ago
I saw a P-reg carrier at my station recently too, those old merc sprinters just keep on going
U5096 2 years ago
They were definatly built to last! And btw your'e not the only one to like the siren on the 96 reg sprinter!

Nah, im 99% sure these are Premier Hazards, these were commonly used on Police Vehicles in the 1980's/90's.

yeh you're probably right
U5096 2 years ago
However though, the siren on the Sprinter on the front is a Whelen
