  • I love Ernie's face when he suggests "Could we get in touch with Greig ?" at 2:57

  • I'm open to argument, but this is surely the best comedy sketch ever. Oh, & Andrew Preview rocks!

  • @dunebasher1971 : "Over time, this story has mutated into the idea that Previn learned his entire part from scratch in a single taxi ride on the day of recording. " That is strange, because Previn himself has said in interviews that he had not managed to make rehearsals, but merely read the script. Are you saying he is lying?

  • I really miss Eric and Ernie. I'm only 13 and they are the best ever double act comediens I have ever seen in my life and that will stay the same forever! May they both Rest In Peace! xxxx Love them both!!!!!! Great sketch!

  • Perfection!!!

  • Ernie's litle dance is wonderful

  • Enrie's little dance is wonderful

  • "Grieg by... with him & him".... classic

  • Greig piano concerto by Greig...simple but brilliant comedy

  • If you feel down in the mouth just watch this video

  • HILARIOUS!

  • Timeless.Eric Morcambe was the funniest man ever.

  • HAHAHA

  • "The introduction.....it's too short.....about this much.....about a yard". Morecambe & Wise,... Comedy Giant's.

  • the boys at their very best! forget everything else this is genius.

  • Great clip, they will always be funny : )

  • i love this <3

  • Wonderful - I never get tired of seeing this! It's comedy at its best perfomed by experts at comic timing who we don't seem to have anymore.

Remarkably, Andre Previn had no chance to practise this sketch beforehand and actually learned his lines on the plane coming over to the studio. I agree that the expression on his face after hearing Eric's piano playing is priceless!

  • @purplestar9902 - I heard that. The sketch was originally done in the Sixties - but with no famous conductor. Andre Previn really MADE the sketch.

  • @purplestar9902 FWIW, the story that Previn had no time at all to rehearse is something of an urban myth. The reality is that he did rehearse, but only for three days rather than the seven that Morecambe & Wise usually insisted on. He had to leave rehearsals to go and see his mother, who was ill in New York. Over time, this story has mutated into the idea that Previn learned his entire part from scratch in a single taxi ride on the day of recording.

  • Eric is fantastic!...

    Thannks for posting

  • I never made out what Eric said right before Andre started playing the correct beginning.

  • He says: 'Forget it- for another four pounds, we could've booked Edward Heath.' Or something to that effect.

  • 'ave a banana... :D who recognises that.. =p i love the thing Morcambe starts playing =D Comedy genius

  • Andre's face at 5:12 is GOLD!!!

  • wanted to say THANK YOU!!!!! soooooooooooooo much for putting this vid on and NEVER!! take it off PLZ!!

  • "Incidentally, where's the piano? [beat] Never mind, this'll do!"

And I fall off my chair laughing :-)

  • nice playin eric, its really a nice sketch.....lol!

  • what is the tune he plays instead of Griegs? i know i have heard it somewhere =D

  • What is the tune that Andre Previn plays after "Eric's" version of the piano concerto at 7.31 ish?

  • It's the theme tune to "Face The Music" hosted by Joseph Cooper, it is called "Popular Song" and was written by William Walton for the Facade Suite.

  • haha he physically picks up one of the greatest conductors of all time, then slaps him XD hilarious

  • omg- hillarious!

  • This is a work of genius. There just isn't anything like this being made anymore and the world is a sadder place for it. I challenge anyone not to laugh long and loud watching this. Comedy today is driven by nastiness and cynicism and only serves to increase the appeal of comedians such as Morcambe and Wise. Long may we watch and laugh.

  • "something wrong with the violins?"

"no, no theres nothing wrong with the violins"

    "thats only your opinion"

"what, what w-were you playin then?"

    "the griegs piano concerto"

"but, b-but youre playing all the wrong notes"

" i believe im playing all the right notes just not nessiserarly in the right order"

lol i nearly wet myself laughing at that point

  • i dunbno how any1 could not like these 2

  • so funny couldn't stop laughing.

  • 7.42 of pure magic

  • oh yeah i remember this episode tht was a very hilarious morecambe and wise are the most famous and best comedians on the planet!! Eric is the most funniest!!!!

  • yer i kno but i think eric is the most funniest

  • yes

  • Absolutely the best.

  • "Tonight, Grieg's Piano Concerto by Grieg..." lol.

Sorry, this is great. Thank you for posting.

  • "You see in the second movement, not to heavy on the banjos." LOL! Grieg and banjos.

    "Vulgar, vulgar!" Oh, classic.

  • haha, the whoe orcestra laugh at the jokes as well, funny

  • The funniest sketch ever!

  • what happened to the full sketch? It was on here and disappeared!!

  • lmao! 'I'm playing all the right notes just not in the right order'

    RUBBISH!!!

    I luv those 2!!

  • Does anyone know where I will be able to find the music for Eric's version of the Greig piece on the internet?

  • pure class

    wackjonny

  • Pure class. You can see where Vic Reeves got some of his inspiration from. I know that the Morcombe & Wise show had writers for them, like Barry Cryer, who is a writing god. But Eric Morcombe carried this show. I miss this show so much. Fuck off Ant & Dec, no recent comedy duo with ever match the Morcombe & Wise Show.

  • Vic does look like Eric and he could have a go at playing him perhaps on stage - but there was really only one Eric Morecambe - when you watch this sketch he gave everything to make us laugh - total professional and a naturally gifted funny man.

  • @Voxac100b lee mack could also have a go playing eric as well

Vic might be closer... who would be ernie?

  • Brillant

  • A classic.

  • After all these years, nothing can touch this sketch!!!

  • The full version is now on You Tube. Search Andre Previn Full Sketch and you will find it. It's a gem!

  • not too heavy on the banjos brilliant!

  • oh, does anyone have the full sketch please??!!

  • Comedy Gold that

"Is there something wrong with the violins"

  • you just can't beat this sketch. it's almost makes me wet myself everytime, even after all these years!!!

  • Thanks, I've searched for this many times. The funniest bit of TV ever. Anybody got the full sketch?

  • The best sketch they ever did!!!! Good old Andrew Preview...

  • THE best sketck ever - I can remember watching it for this first time as a kid and it still has m in stitches. Genius.

  • the greatest sketch ever

  • I love the musicians laughing their heads off in the background!!
