People who want to stop crime should focus on poverty. If you lived in a shanty town you would probably try and commit crime as well. You would be pissed off with life and with how unfair life actually is on you. If every wealthier South African gave a damn about the people living in squalor and reached out to them, this world would be a better place. No one can argue with this fact, no matter how hard you try.

Employ more policemen. The police need to raise their standards of recruitment. Allocate a larger budget for skills,training & equipment. There are approximately 150 000 police officers in the SAPS. Total population of SA including all the foreigners is approx: 50 million...surely someone in the ANC must have an understanding of mathematics?

Being a cop in SA is no joke. I know this because I was one for 14 years. It's the most thankless job on earth...the public always blame the police for the crime rate being high, blah, blah, blah...if the ANC government took ownership of the crime situation and stopped looking for scape-goats i.e "THE LEGACY OF APARTHEID" then something constructive can be done about it.
