@mymusik00 PC was already fully booted up. After connecting the modified USB cable to the drive, then to the PC's USB slot, I plugged in the SATA power connector to the drive. You really shouldn't do that after the PC is booted, but I had no choice, since I didn't have an external drive enclosure to use.
Nice Tut Razor, Im having trouble finding the driver for my CA 42 cable. It looks like the one Nitrohelix used in her tut. Blue USB adapter, black cord, three wires (Blue, Grn, & Wht) S/N: WTO48000317 Made in China. Any advice in finding the drivers or maybe you call suggest a cable I can buy that definitely has drivers that are easy to find. Any help would be greatly appreciated. best regards!!
@Astor117 What version of Windows are you going to be using for the fix? When I made the tut, I was using XP 32-bit. I'm not sure if the drivers work with Vista or Win7. I uploaded the drivers I used in the tut. The link to them is in the video description.
@Astor117 You can put Hyperterminal on your Win7 machine. All you have to do is go onto your XP machine and copy the following files to your Win7 machine:
1) C:\Program Files\Windows NT\HYPERTRM.EXE
2) C:\Windows\Help\HYPERTRM.CHM
3) C:\Windows\Help\HYPERTRM.HLP
4) C:\Windows\System32\hypertrm.dll
Paste these files to the same folders on the Win7 machine. Then create a shortcut to the HYPERTRM.EXE program. It should work just fine. Make sure the Nokia drivers work on Win7 first.
@RazorChrist Hey Razor, I've tried Hyperterminal on Win 7 but was not able to get my laptop to recognize the Drive. On my WinXP PC i was able to get it toshow up on my Device Manager as "Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port (COM 3)" BUT it has a yellow exclamation mark. And Hyperlink does not have COM 3 as an option under "Connect Using:" I feel like Im soo close, man I can really use your advice. Ive DL your driver via Megaload but not sure show to install it,I dont see an .EXE file to install
@Astor117 Extract the drivers to a folder on the desktop. Pull up Device Manager and right-click the Prolific device, then go to "Update Drivers". Choose Yes to use Windows Update for search, hit NEXT, then choose "Install from specific location". On the next screen, click the Browse button and locate the folder you extracted the drivers to, then hit NEXT. It should install the drivers for you. If you're having problems with all this, watch the video again, as the above steps are in the video.
@RazorChrist right after I typed i4,1,22 turned off power waited 30 secs. Plugged power again .....Hard drive started spinning but has not stopped. Does I it take a long time to spin down? Its been like ten minutes so far.
@RazorChrist Dude Ive done everything EXACTLY how you instructed.I finally got the drivers to work, I did not get any errors or anything like that. All was perfect like you suggested in your tut. When I finally entered the final command and shut down my PC (I turned off completly, not restart) I reconnected my Harddrive tothe USB and plugged it in to power. p.s. this used tobe an external drive,so I used the power cord & pluged it to the wall socket. I clicked MyComputer, but still dont see it
@Astor117 Try connecting it as an internal drive and check the BIOS to see if it displays there. If not, I'm not sure what it might be. When you were unplugging/replugging the power cable during the tut, were you careful not to accidentally unplug the other cable from the drive?
@RazorChrist Im usually pretty computer literate, but I just want to be clear. When u say "try connecting as an internal drive..." do u mean to literally open the PC and connect it as an additional drive? Also, umm, how do I check the BIOS? And, yes! I was VERY careful when unplugging/replugging the power cable, nothing got unplugged other than the power cable as instructed. Hey man, thanks for your time, really appreiciate it.
@Astor117 Okay, first thing, does your drive look like the one in my tut? If so, you should be able to open your PC and connect it as an additional drive. As for BIOS, when you first turn your PC on, the very first screen should say "Press F2 for setup" or something similar. Hit whatever key it says for setup, which should take you into BIOS. First screen should list all your drives. If it doesn't show your Seagate drive here, chances are it won't show in Windows.
@TMKhanK2 Not sure if it can be done in Win7. I don't have Win7, and the video was the only time I've had to try this fix. As for your other question, yeah you power it with your SATA power cable, unless you have an external enclosure. Just be very careful when plugging/unplugging power cable. Don't accidentally move the other wires.
when did you power up the HD in the first place?
