Out of 1580 Tiger I & IIs lost, 713 were destroyed in action, 654 were destroyed by their own crews (usually during retreats when there was a broken tack), and 214 were unkilled, or other. This equals out to 45, 41, and 14 percent respectively. CoD on most of those destroyed was ground fire. During the Normandy campaign, approx 1500 German tanks, TDs and AGs were destroyed, less than 7% were lost to air attack.

@Lachausis Yes, but they only fought when the Afrika Korps was already decimated. The Afrika Korps could rely mostly on Panzer III Ausf. J and a few Panzer IV Ausf. F2 and G until 1943, when they were surrounded by USA and British forces advancing from both Algeria and Libya towards Tunisia. That's when they got the first Tiger tanks, mostly redeployed in Italy when they failed to hold Tunisia.
I don't see why they thought the King Tiger was necessary to make. Wouldn't it have been better to just multiply production of just the first Tiger model.? Besides all this, the same size engine was used as the tiger one.
@germaniajim the Tiger 1 was far more complicated to build, the king tiger was easier to produce and had even more firepower and protection to confront some new adversaries like the 90mm M-26 Pershing, and the Stalin III. But in my opinion i think that the best thing that the germans made, was the mass production of the Panther tanks and tank hunters made out the panzer IV and Panzer III chassis.

Even if the Germans made it to Antwerp, big deal, the port was only operating at low capacity due to damage and mines. Also they never would have been able to hold it.
Was it a smart move to build such an expensive, complex and hard to maintain tank such as the Tiger? No. Was the King Tiger by far the best tank of WW2? Yes!! It scared the hell out of our poor little Sherman crews, and rightfully so. In the "big picture" building the Tiger was a waste of limited resources. On the battlefield the Tiger served its purpose quite well and demoralized many allied soldiers on both the East and Western fronts. Cool piece of history!

@darkj3am remember that a Tiger would never face a enemy tank flush on - it would angle left or right front toward it - like a diamonds point ti give it relatively sloped armor to it's target. Moving the top of the diamond in the direction of the most deadly target if there were multiple targets
t-34 was only good because of the following reason:
his armour was set in such a big degree about 60-70° (i guess) . because of this the german tanks couldn't penetrate the armour. their rounds just didnt go through the armour.
ok, I mean if you just look of the productivity and costs, the t34 couldn't match with anyone, but the effectivness in the war, a t34 would have no chance against a tiger. maybe the t34 would just have a chance if it would stand behind the tiger aiming his back armour.

I mean disorganised in the broad strategic terms, if it was an organised retreat they would have found a truck or train to put their POW's on.
The point is you can't just throw out the Geneva Conventions just because they don't turn out your way. If a force cannot effectively take them prisoner then they should not have accepted their surrender in the first place.
That means giving them a chance for a fighting retreat rather than BETRAYING the truce that surrendered troops will be spared death.

Surrender is not a spontaneous thing, it is organised by the commanding officer once it is clear they are doomed if they carry on fighting. It is an agreement, a PROMISE that laying down their arms will spare their lives.
Surrender is a beneficial mechanism as it prevents pointless blood-shead on both sides for indefensible positions.
Semantics are EVERYTHING. The devil is in the detail which is that the SS killed POWs in their care out of pure spite!

@Lachausis Yes, but they only fought when the Afrika Korps was already decimated. The Afrika Korps could rely mostly on Panzer III Ausf. J and a few Panzer IV Ausf. F2 and G until 1943, when they were surrounded by USA and British forces advancing from both Algeria and Libya towards Tunisia. That's when they got the first Tiger tanks, mostly redeployed in Italy when they failed to hold Tunisia.

@germaniajim the Tiger 1 was far more complicated to build, the king tiger was easier to produce and had even more firepower and protection to confront some new adversaries like the 90mm M-26 Pershing, and the Stalin III. But in my opinion i think that the best thing that the germans made, was the mass production of the Panther tanks and tank hunters made out the panzer IV and Panzer III chassis.

USA, the British Empire and the USSR were three superpowers, while Germany was a country raising from economical breakdown with its sole ally isolated on the other side of the world. Was it a smart move to build such an expensive, complex and hard to maintain tank such as the Tiger? No. Was the King Tiger by far the best tank of WW2? Yes!! It scared the hell out of our poor little Sherman crews, and rightfully so. In the "big picture" building the Tiger was a waste of limited resources. On the battlefield the Tiger served its purpose quite well and demoralized many allied soldiers on both the East and Western fronts. Cool piece of history!

t-34 was only good because of the following reason:
his armour was set in such a big degree about 60-70° (i guess) . because of this the german tanks couldn't penetrate the armour. their rounds just didnt go through the armour.

Little known fact: The USA is responsible for providing the bulk of weapons (tanks, trucks, fighter planes and bombers) even food rations to the Red army. Without the USAs help, Stalin would have been cooling his heels in Siberia. So basically the US is responsible for keeping communism alive.

The Red army beat the Wermacht, after a sneaky German suprise attack, fair and square. D-day and the Western campaign was a sideshow in comparison to the amount of German Divisions annihilated on the Eastern front. The Reds kept themselves alive, and took what they could at the end. Yanks join at the end, stole the glory.

It is a WHOLE OTHER THING, to take prisoners who have surrendered and then execute them once they have been disarmed and restrained.
The SS killed them not due to a dynamic attack but a disorganised retreat, they murdered them simply because they couldn't be taken back with them.

I mean disorganised in the broad strategic terms, if it was an organised retreat they would have found a truck or train to put their POW's on.
The point is you can't just throw out the Geneva Conventions just because they don't turn out your way. If a force cannot effectively take them prisoner then they should not have accepted their surrender in the first place.
That means giving them a chance for a fighting retreat rather than BETRAYING the truce that surrendered troops will be spared death.

"not have accepted their surrender", you mean, shoot the surrendering tropps. The dead dont care, whether they were shot before or after the accepted surrender, it is just a matter of semantics, they were veterans of the Russian front, where nobody would have cared about this.
We can argue about this all day long, but in a war where tens of millions died, caring about the death of few dozen is useless

You have no idea how a surrender works.
Surrender is not a spontaneous thing, it is organised by the commanding officer once it is clear they are doomed if they carry on fighting. It is an agreement, a PROMISE that laying down their arms will spare their lives.
Surrender is a beneficial mechanism as it prevents pointless blood-shead on both sides for indefensible positions.
Semantics are EVERYTHING. The devil is in the detail which is that the SS killed POWs in their care out of pure spite!
