All Dillinger's stuff is amazing. This showcases Greg's awesome vocal range. Musical diversity is a great thing, especially when they can stay true to what they love, while still pleasing people.
this song live is heavy as fuck!! just saw it at download. Stood out like fuck for me! and im more of a fan of theyre old stuff. sold out??? go back to ur bedsit and keep working on that little novel youre writing there.
On top of that... how fucking retarded does someone have to be to think a band like this "sold out".... what do you think.... they have a new album come out with a drummer that can barely hack what the previous one did.... so they have to compensate... some of that ends up being less like the previous dillinger stuff... its amazing how much drums alone can change the way you hear things.... its still dillinger and its still not on the pop stations... everything is still safe....
What a stupid fucking comment.... I've been listening to dillinger since miss machine came out, and i have to disagree only because i really like ire works. Calculating infinity is still probably their best album but to be honest there is not much difference between them in quality
imo.
and 2/3 of ire works is definitely not popish, they still created something new and it sounds good
DEP plays in unexpected time signatures. Therefore I guess you can say DEP plays the unexpected. Certainly nobody expected them to make a song like this. Right right?
@Mrforevernemo you say Patton like it's a bad thing? Don't like his influence on DEP? Calculating was indeed a genre-defining msterpce, we agree on that. From that has sprung a band unafraid to try new things and experiment. Sure, it's not always good but you have to give them credit for having the balls to try a song like "Unretrofied" or This one. I think that as long as they continue to challenge themselves and try new things that they will continue to be great.
theyre definitely talented, and theyre still one of my favorite bands, but thats why this album disappointed me so much. i recognize and respect the chance they took with this album, but that doesnt mean i have to like it. But you make a good point.
Despite their incraasing popularity I assure you that DEP is NOT making money nor are they getting "tons of luxuries". Music is not a glamourous or lucrative business, despite what hip hop would have you believe.
Instead theyve left us with this regurgitated demonstration of what its like to color inside the lines and do what mike patton and mommy told you. Calculating Infinity was a musical masterpiece that defined mathcore, and changed the way i thought about music. Ire works just bores me, and theres nothing i hate more than boring music. That being said, option paralysis has revived some of my lost hope. Seeing them live march 23, so excited.
Just look at the number twelve and btbam, both bands have several albums that stay true to the style of the band, while exploring more musically. I feel like dillinger dumbed everything down. Gone are the insane time signature changes and thrashing craziness that still somehow reminded me of jazz.
I sort of actually agree genericinsect1979, ive actually been saying dillinger sold out with this album since it came out. This album disappointed me so much. I know they didnt really sell out, and i wouldnt never expect a band like dillinger to produce the same album twice, but they didnt have to take the steps towards pop-ish music that they did.
"Selling out is changing your music so it has a more commercial appeal"
Hmm. I don't know too many people that actually know and like DEP who are into more 'commercial music'.
Plus, changing music? Alot of bands simply change their style of music because they wish to take a different direction, or write/play differently, not to "appeal to more commercial means", have you ever thought of that?
Stupid question it's probably no. You'll be too busy looking for youtube bands to be "unique" and "cool"
I feel what you're saying, nothing wrong with a change in direction and plus - technically selling out is making money from your music... whether that be £200 for a pub gig or a £1.5 million record deal... So the overwhelming majority of artists have "sold out"... not that a great and insult when you look at it that way!
I personally love it when a band tries a change of direction - considering it's good obviously haha - who wants to hear the same kind of song over and over? May aswell listen to DragonForce...
And yeah, may aswell say every single band/singer out there that has made any profit has sold out... heck, sign me up to this sell out list... I wouldn't mind a few million!
Yeah, I'm sure they make so much money that they get tons of luxuries. This is not the sound you want to produce if you want money. As of now, no band sounds like this, if you can name a band that sounds like them, be my guest. Still, I could agree that Calculating Infinity is better than Ire Works and Miss Machine, even Miss Machine is better than Ire Works.
i thought the whole idea of DEP was to play the unexpected, if your talkin bwt the vocal lines, ther jus vocal lines bro, ther not writing music for us...
lol musicians don't sell out, but you fucking genre fans don't realise this coz you want the same thing, musicians couldn't do that, its not satisfying. grow the fuck up and get wise
Do you even understand the concept of selling out you retarded prick? Selling out is changing your music so it has a more commercial appeal. Compare this steaming pile of turd to the greatness of DEP's first album and you'll see that they have sold out and they should be crucified for it.
Of course they aren't going to make the same album twice you clod but they didn't have to take a step in a commercial direction. These guys are just money-grabbing fucks who don't care about their real fans by making this pop bullshit.

This is how these guys draw mtv faggots into buying their albums and going to their concerts. and then, they assault them with stuff like milk lizard or panasonic youth
i'd hardly call milk lizard or panasonic youth an assault. these guys really went downhill. i'm all for musical growth and all that, but seriously... they need to go back to the days of calculating infinity when it took a few listens to even understand what the fuck was going on. THAT was an assault.
he's different. He's jazzy, very fluid and smooth. Where pennie was like a mathematical robot. You can really tell the difference between when watching gil cover chris's songs. They're both incredible, just different. I feel that they should have kept chris, and gil should have played for coheed, but it is what it is.
no need to be hostile ! i'm just simply stating that mike patton had an influence in their music . i am aware of their history. i did not mean to imply that he created this band. although i personally think patton gave them a great element in their sound . sorry. what can i say ? i'm a patton fan .
totally agree. whoever has heard patton through the bands where he has sung inmediatly recognizes his ascendancy over dillinger whole-not only vocals-sound...that should be no complaint about them. patton's legacy is there to be profited by any band. by the way, Patton and Dillinger gave birth to one of the best twenty's songs-whatever the genre-: when good dogs do bad things.
are they FUCK a patton project. if you knew their history you'd know they started 2 years before patton even came along. Dilliger where there best in miss machine
Yes dillinger used to be far more consistently 'heavy' and erratic, but in my opinion the crux of what they have been about is complete freedom in music and performance. To put it simply, Dillinger can do what the fuck they want because they are Dillinger. For all its commercial appeal, The Ire Works is yet another incredible album that pushes boundries. And if anyone thinks they have 'softened' or 'sold out', go watch them live... words cant do them justice in that department :)
You said it, my man. That's why I love DEP, they're not your formulaic, prototype band. They're real musicians who are pleasing themselves and their real fans with good music, and not those whiny 15 year old kids who thinks Calculating Infinity is awesome because they scream a lot, and then they sell out. I've never seen a bad work from DEP, never. On the other hand, they need better video directors, I think this video sucks, or it has look better as the theme of "Dead as History" video.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
i'm not a whiny 15 year old, and i think calculating infinity was faaaar better than the crap they've been putting out lately. i started listening to these guys nearly 10 years ago, and Miss Machine was one of the biggest let downs I've ever experienced, and they haven't gotten any better since, in my opinion. Just not my cup of tea. I'm glad Chris left. At least Coheed has a consistent sound. For now.
Well, dude. That's your opinion, and I respect that. Calculating Infinity is a great album, probably their signature album? Damn right. But I think they're far away from putting a crappy song or a crappy album. In my opinion, DEP never put a letdown, even if, comparing with their whole repertoire, Miss Machine is probably the weakest link in the whole DEP journey.
Nonetheless, I think that, besides the fact that an insurance company should be their sponsors, the fact that they aren't being formulaic, that they aren't being classified as a (X) genre band because of what they do, that they're exploring thru a lot of sounds without losing their essence. The fact that they can surprise you everytime they do something, it's has to be appreciated.
Fact of the matter is, DEP are not the same band they were 10 years ago. A new sound that comes with new members. With only 1 founding member left, I think it's right to say that they had a sit down to see what direction the rest of the members wanted to take the band in.
Calculating was great, but people have to learn to accept change. If you can't face progresion, then you aren't a fan, are you?
read it again. i just said that both of their sounds evolve, and that's what's so good about them both.
i definitely agree that when it comes to sheer instrument proficiency, DEP takes the gold, but that's not what it's all about, ya know?
i mean, you gotta respect incubus too, because their sounds changes from album to album as well. it's just cool to see bands grow and change instead of releasing the same album over and over.
Nah. Listening to this song and it's very traditionally structured. You listen to DEP to hear the unorthodox. anyways.. unretrofied was a better "experiment".
Great band, but they really need to rethink their strategy when it comes to the music videos. Unretrofied was a great video, but everything else hasn't been that good. I would have to say that while I love the song, the video for Milk Lizard just sucked like hell. This one was just there. Them playing in suits was good enough, but they had to crank up the weirdness everywhere else. Not a good video.
i'm not hating on this band, every band should be able to expand their horizons. but this band used to rip lots of major ass and now they seem to suck major ass. DEP have fallen off in a major way. but i guess they're still good musicians or whatever the fuck that means, doesnt mean they're still a good band...they're not. fuck'em, they were cool 10yrs ago.
I always find it odd how I dislike majority of this bands music, yet they'll release random songs such as Unretrofied and Black Bubblegum, and I'll end up loving them.
As I see it, if they made an album soley of songs such of the 2 aforementioned, I think I'd probably enjoy the band a lot more haha.
Yeah, in their new album they expanded their boundaries alot. Actually, theres a good 4 or 5 songs that aren't the technical metal that the band usually plays. Sick on Sunday, Mouth of Ghost, Dead as History, and some others have different styles of music in them.
Strange band. Always nice to see a band that keeps you guessing with its material. Always been perplexed by dillinger and between the buried and me. There albums always take left turns. Nice to hear good music still exists.
I'm glad this was not the first Dillinger song I ever heard, otherwise I would have never cared to find out for what their other albums sounded like...
I'm glad this was not the first Dillinger son I've ever heard, otherwise I would have never cared to find out for what their other albums sound like...
I think you're just trying to justify something that even the older members of Dillinger have recorgnized as something that escaped their own hands...
I love Dillinger Escape Plan and I've listened to it before most people and have also read a whole bunch about it, and thanks to that I can say that not even they are happy with the outcome of their album, but just had to be done since they have a contract to carry out.
So it's not weird for people like you who know very little but talk a lot, to enjoy this kind of pop album.
I'm not trying to insult your tastes in music but maybe if you read a little more and then talked, you would have a little more insight to contribute...
Reminds me of Black Hole Sun's video, just with less cohesiveness. Setting Fire was so much better, and Milk Lizard, while an incredible song, just fell on its face.
DEP doesn't seem to have a knack for making good videos. Where is this one going?

I like DEP's Musical progression, their sound is really diverse I dont think miss machine or Ire works were let downs at all.
TheFrameworks 3 years ago
i love DEP, ha that verse extra vocal part sounds like something Blur would do.
jkodee 3 years ago
agreed, but i hope DEP plays "the mullet burden" when fag scene kids or like u said, mtv fags. hahahaha i'd pay a million dollers to see their face!
theben666 3 years ago
This is how these guys draw mtv faggots into buying their albums and going to their concerts. and then, they assault them with stuff like milk lizard or panasonic youth
KawabungaFartingDude 3 years ago
i'd hardly call milk lizard or panasonic youth an assault. these guys really went downhill. i'm all for musical growth and all that, but seriously... they need to go back to the days of calculating infinity when it took a few listens to even understand what the fuck was going on. THAT was an assault.

I don't really get why you would re-post a clip that is already out there. Do you want to take credit for it or are you just lonely? Perhaps both.

I didn't like this the first like 5 times I watched it, but I kept trying... I do now, it's awesome

aww no! they lost the drummer! thats the shittest music news ive heard since S.O.A.D split! need to check if hes as good as chris! wee D
yerAllfuckingslaves 3 years ago
he's different. He's jazzy, very fluid and smooth. Where pennie was like a mathematical robot. You can really tell the difference between when watching gil cover chris's songs. They're both incredible, just different. I feel that they should have kept chris, and gil should have played for coheed, but it is what it is.

i don't know, but, for me anyway, the appeal of DEP was their insane time signatures and speed. BAd move losing Chris Pennie.

their old singer made them sound just like shitty ass mushroomhead so if you're really that butt hurt about greg why don't you just listen to them?

it's not their best song, cause i never hear him scream once ... but i love the new album anyways.

How can you say the singer is bad?! Hes excellent and suits the band so well.

no need to be hostile ! i'm just simply stating that mike patton had an influence in their music . i am aware of their history. i did not mean to imply that he created this band. although i personally think patton gave them a great element in their sound . sorry. what can i say ? i'm a patton fan .
lichtenshizervonshir 3 years ago 4
totally agree. whoever has heard patton through the bands where he has sung inmediatly recognizes his ascendancy over dillinger whole-not only vocals-sound...that should be no complaint about them. patton's legacy is there to be profited by any band. by the way, Patton and Dillinger gave birth to one of the best twenty's songs-whatever the genre-: when good dogs do bad things.
winterdiscontenter 3 years ago
I can't believe this only has 20,000 views. This is one of my favorite songs by them and it should be recognized more.

come on ! even though they have "mellowed" a little . they still have that patton influence. what else could you expect from a patton project ?
lichtenshizervonshir 3 years ago 2
are they FUCK a patton project. if you knew their history you'd know they started 2 years before patton even came along. Dilliger where there best in miss machine
rawrcalumx 3 years ago
what the...?
punkbabydoll09 3 years ago
Yes dillinger used to be far more consistently 'heavy' and erratic, but in my opinion the crux of what they have been about is complete freedom in music and performance. To put it simply, Dillinger can do what the fuck they want because they are Dillinger. For all its commercial appeal, The Ire Works is yet another incredible album that pushes boundries. And if anyone thinks they have 'softened' or 'sold out', go watch them live... words cant do them justice in that department :)
hisrockinghighness 3 years ago
You said it, my man. That's why I love DEP, they're not your formulaic, prototype band. They're real musicians who are pleasing themselves and their real fans with good music, and not those whiny 15 year old kids who thinks Calculating Infinity is awesome because they scream a lot, and then they sell out. I've never seen a bad work from DEP, never. On the other hand, they need better video directors, I think this video sucks, or it has look better as the theme of "Dead as History" video.
anfclwin05 3 years ago

i'm not a whiny 15 year old, and i think calculating infinity was faaaar better than the crap they've been putting out lately. i started listening to these guys nearly 10 years ago, and Miss Machine was one of the biggest let downs I've ever experienced, and they haven't gotten any better since, in my opinion. Just not my cup of tea. I'm glad Chris left. At least Coheed has a consistent sound. For now.
cjmenard 3 years ago
Well, dude. That's your opinion, and I respect that. Calculating Infinity is a great album, probably their signature album? Damn right. But I think they're far away from putting a crappy song or a crappy album. In my opinion, DEP never put a letdown, even if, comparing with their whole repertoire, Miss Machine is probably the weakest link in the whole DEP journey.
anfclwin05 3 years ago 2
Nonetheless, I think that, besides the fact that an insurance company should be their sponsors, the fact that they aren't being formulaic, that they aren't being classified as a (X) genre band because of what they do, that they're exploring thru a lot of sounds without losing their essence. The fact that they can surprise you everytime they do something, it's has to be appreciated.
anfclwin05 3 years ago
Fact of the matter is, DEP are not the same band they were 10 years ago. A new sound that comes with new members. With only 1 founding member left, I think it's right to say that they had a sit down to see what direction the rest of the members wanted to take the band in.
Calculating was great, but people have to learn to accept change. If you can't face progresion, then you aren't a fan, are you?
thenewfury 3 years ago
Well you can be a fan of the old stuff... I love all of it though, every album got something special to it.
Cleansation515 3 years ago
why would DEP or Coheed ever want a consistent sound?
that's what we LOVE about them.
they're always evolving.
voodoodaddy7531 3 years ago
did you honestly just compare DEP to Coheed?!?!? no man no...
deckertoe 3 years ago
no, i didn't.
read it again. i just said that both of their sounds evolve, and that's what's so good about them both.
i definitely agree that when it comes to sheer instrument proficiency, DEP takes the gold, but that's not what it's all about, ya know?
i mean, you gotta respect incubus too, because their sounds changes from album to album as well. it's just cool to see bands grow and change instead of releasing the same album over and over.
i'm not really COMPARING necessarily.
voodoodaddy7531 3 years ago
They're both badass bands(but DEP's better).

hey didn't these guys used to play rock and roll music? yeah, i think i recall that having happened at one point...
aphexapex 3 years ago
Nah. Listening to this song and it's very traditionally structured. You listen to DEP to hear the unorthodox. anyways.. unretrofied was a better "experiment".
Surisis1983 3 years ago
Wow they definitely provoke a mixed response, I'll give em that.
BeadlesGhostClaw 3 years ago
Great band, but they really need to rethink their strategy when it comes to the music videos. Unretrofied was a great video, but everything else hasn't been that good. I would have to say that while I love the song, the video for Milk Lizard just sucked like hell. This one was just there. Them playing in suits was good enough, but they had to crank up the weirdness everywhere else. Not a good video.

i'm not hating on this band, every band should be able to expand their horizons. but this band used to rip lots of major ass and now they seem to suck major ass. DEP have fallen off in a major way. but i guess they're still good musicians or whatever the fuck that means, doesnt mean they're still a good band...they're not. fuck'em, they were cool 10yrs ago.

this is one of the sikest songs since nothing to lose
therealtylermoments 3 years ago
I always find it odd how I dislike majority of this bands music, yet they'll release random songs such as Unretrofied and Black Bubblegum, and I'll end up loving them.
As I see it, if they made an album soley of songs such of the 2 aforementioned, I think I'd probably enjoy the band a lot more haha.
Cessate 3 years ago
Yeah, in their new album they expanded their boundaries alot. Actually, theres a good 4 or 5 songs that aren't the technical metal that the band usually plays. Sick on Sunday, Mouth of Ghost, Dead as History, and some others have different styles of music in them.
Thelaofkazi 3 years ago
yea i love Unretrofied too
I like their softer songs a lot more tbh.

Or maybe they're just the same band but decided they don't need to limit their writing to make people like you happy.
mardgn81 3 years ago 2
I think you're just trying to justify something that even the older members of Dillinger have recorgnized as something that escaped their own hands...
I love Dillinger Escape Plan and I've listened to it before most people and have also read a whole bunch about it, and thanks to that I can say that not even they are happy with the outcome of their album, but just had to be done since they have a contract to carry out.

PART 2
So it's not weird for people like you who know very little but talk a lot, to enjoy this kind of pop album.
I'm not trying to insult your tastes in music but maybe if you read a little more and then talked, you would have a little more insight to contribute...

Reminds me of Black Hole Sun's video, just with less cohesiveness. Setting Fire was so much better, and Milk Lizard, while an incredible song, just fell on its face.
DEP doesn't seem to have a knack for making good videos. Where is this one going?
