  • Great video, that is something I am going to be doing this weekend. I need it to see this instead of reading instructions.

    Thank you.

  • @Gadp74 no problem man, glad to be of help

  • Nice. I didn't have any trouble getting the top bearing cap out of my Landy, of course, I probably did it entirely wrong, and screwed something up.

  • Hi Mark, the conversions done, TWICE! the first 300 was abit of a smoker, so i bought another short block, fit that, and it seems a good engine, but i need to m.o.t. the rangie now, but i,ve been real busey with the house and other projects, there's just not enough time in the day!

  • What is the setup in your range rover, daihatsu engine and box or Daihatsu engine and range rover gearbox? Did you have to change much?

  • it was the DL52 engine + LT77/LT230 Land Rover gearbox, it was a good conversion in it's time, i fitted it about 9 years ago, i've since found out the main bearings failed because of low oil pressure due to badly worn Turbo bearings. i'm in the process of fitting a 300TDI in at the moment

  • Hey frank!!! i love this video, can't wait to see the rebuild, i will rate this video at 20 stars =)

  • Nene, it;s coming soon, but working outside in the U.K. winter time is no fun!

  • Ha!. It must have some clearence for a squish band. All engines do! But ive never really seen the head off an indirect injection engine. Im asuming its flat though? with no combustion chambers?

  • yeah, the heads flat, with seperate combustion chambers, they're supposed to be smoother and quieter than direct injection, but they aren't quite as efficient, esp. if you run em with no oil, like me!

  • Ive heard of that happening with worn big ends but isnt it usually when you rev it that it makes a crazy clatter, dont think it does it on tickover like yours did until it is seriously shafted. Bear in mind that it has a few MM of squish band between the piston and the head. Might even be more likely to hit a valve than the head its self.

Personally I wouldnt worry about it.

  • The piston runs real close to the head, it's an indirect injection engine, what made me think it was the piston/head was the sound of the noise, very much like a tappit rattle, rather than a deeper sounding knocking

Glad you like the fruit bowl, it's a genuine antique (just like our lass!!) from the ming dynasty, just like my engine!!

  • lol you were right not to come to flappits in it then! Dont think your crank journals would have looked quite as nice if you had done!

Nice fruit bowl by the way!

  • Tom your right, i think i've changed them just in the nick of time, i was noticing that the engine was getting rattley and the oil light was taking longer to go out, so i knew it was time to take action, funnily enough, i put the rattle down to the piston making contact with the head, rather than the worn big ends making the noise, whats your opinion Tom?
