IN THE PROCESSING OF EVOLUTION one must have patience as the evolutionary process takes billions of years. People who work in universities say so. Before being hired as "people who work in universities" they are questioned about the evolutionary process. They agree with their interviewer that it takes billions of years. The interviewed and the interviewers are frustrated by how long the evolutionary process takes, which by the way is billions of years.
ugh. this movie was HORRIBLE!! i love romantic movies and this one just absolutely sucked! i couldn't understand anything they were saying and nobody gets together. that one dude leaves the nurse and catherine and the other guy both die or at least i think the guy died cause he disappeared from the bed. overall it was just absolutely horrible. i will never watch this again
This movie was fortunately conceived and brilliantly executed. The love story between Katherine and Almasy is one of the great romantic sequences in all of cinema.
OH Ralph Fiennes you are SO hot. I just love him. So brilliant, so sexy, extremely talented. Too bad he had to go up against Geoffrey Rush for the Oscar that year.
Juliette Binoche deserved the awards in this Film she was superb and well cast! I can relate to her position as A nurse in the film and the way in which she was so attentive toward the English Patient...
"(...)somos os verdadeiros países. Não as fronteiras nos mapas com nome de homens poderosos""(...),andar nesse lugar com você com amigos uma terra sem mapas. A lâmpada se apagou e estou escrevendo no escuro" K.-The English Patient
From: cocomagi "A masterpiece! Ralph Fiennes is magical"... I agree!! Also, the rest of the entire cast. Everything about This film was magical! Anthony Mighella, you left your mark for all time with your great storytelling spirit and films. Dear brilliant fellow, May you rest in eternal peace ♥
A master piece.A brilliant movie, deep and sensual like the desert, like the lovestory which took my breath away.Ralph fiennes is fine, handsome and his voice is best in english, softer.I saw the french version cause i am french but i prefer this one.Katharine as kristine scott thomas is strong, determined, but fragile also.Passion is so fragile, and almasy so near but far ,so afraid of love.
i always cringe when katharine's trying to give almasy her paintings and he, trying to distance himself from her and even hurt her, refuses. i love her grace. if i had offered it to him and he had been that cool to me, i would've let my embarrassment get the best of me and said something stupid and boorish like, "Oh, ok. Fine then."
i rewatched this last night and i cried. i had seen it 5 years ago but somehow it seems even more powerful now. it ages like a fine wine. i can't believe how perfectly cast kristin and ralph were. their chemistry is radioactive.
and kristin has a very beautiful neck, with a stunning "suprasternal notch." ; )
The English Patient is real masterpiece which deserved its Oscars. Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche showed brilliant acting. Other actors were great as well.
Touching, deep, emotional, truthful, beautiful, sad - it's all about this wonderful film
just watched this movie today and my god those nine Academy Awards truly are well-deserved! Photography, acting, casting, locations, scene direction, etc. and most especially the screenwriting. this is definitely Minghella's best work (next to Cold Mountain).
Ive never seen Kristin Scott Thomas display this kind of sensuality before in any of the movies I've seen her in, and I was very impressed. Ralph Fiennes was very lucky to work with such a fine actress, and her with him
Although Juliet Binoche was the only actor to win an Oscar (and deservedly so), it was Thomas's and Fiennes's performances that made the movie. they are two of the best actors working today...
The best acted scene in the movie is when Juliette Binoche's character administers the fatal dose of moriphine to Fiennes' patient. That is such a moving and touching moment in the film! Juliette Binoche deserved the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, and I'm glad she won it!
Thanks for the memories! I tried to read the book not too long ago, and it was horrible. The script writers had to do a lot of work to salvage that lousy novel.
you're welcome. the movie does have a different feel than the book, which is a good thing. what works in one medium doesn't work in another, so i'm glad they made changes.... but the book is also very good, imo
I didn't mean to sound too opinionated. But the most disappointing aspect of the novel is that so much of the really good dialogue is not even in the original book. It was the screenwriters who worked on this film who made it a great movie. The novel is just a tiny embryo of the full-blown vision of the movie imo.
Thank you. But I miss the lovely scene with Hana and the Sikh when he leads her to his house with the long path made of candles...for me one of the greatest scenes. best from here
This is a very nice collection of clips - thank you!
The line that Ralph Fiennes spits out - "how can you ever smile as if your life hadn't capsized" is quite remarkable and very painful. The English Patient is unique and brings home the message that 'the heart is an organ of fire'!

Ralph deserves an Oscar already here!
He impressed me in any of his films.
He's incredibly talented, versatile, beautiful .......
