  • boring.....

  • What better combination than Rbt Williams and WoV?

  • The les scene in Night Dreams is amazing with this song. The surreal cowgirl stuff is unforgettable.

  • I saw the movie at the pussy cat theater way back. I still think about that movie night dreams and those cowgirls. I love this haunting sound.

  • Goes good with Robert Williams' art :)

  • Cover of Song is great. Cover of the Album is audacious and wonderful. Can anyone read the artist's name in corner??

  • Anyone else see the picture continually moving?

  • @ArmezhiaTakashi ahahhahhahahahhaahahahah...lol???mean something deeper????lololol

  • @ArmezhiaTakashi YouTube .jpeg compression

  • I loved this version of the song even without Stan singing. I'm glad I tripped across it.

  • nightdreams!!!

  • Come to my House! Brothers and Sisters for tea and a Mindset. Shall we overcome that which binds all nations. For Our Children's children

  • One of the 10 best songs of all time ...

  • I heard this song in a pornographic film named ''Nightdreams''

  • bro dont worry screw the simple minded dweebs who think they were there. probally some 14 year old who thinks he knows daddy's music. all i can say to him go listen to your rap and think your generation invented it. know it was not ,it was music like this that paved the way for the modern, and know generation x brought out the modern..keep the awsome post's going brotha, ^5s tobruk42

  • I love Johnny Cash, but this version of this song is so much different that it's like another song. Good job!

  • Excellent. FX Pope would be glad..........????

  • wow, this is cool.

  • How is this the album version when it is a live recording? and not even Stanard singing it! The best is the Call of the West version and even JC beats this version. It sounds like a crap Elvis impersonator after a few to many gatorades! Im sure that you are going to tell me that it is Marc - but hey WGAF. Sometimes rare means crap

  • @minniethe3rd Its from the Andy Prieboy lineup, from a live album they did in Australia

  • @minniethe3rd

I'm partial to the mildly more industrial version on the Wall of Voodoo EP (Restless Records, 1980) as the recorded WOV version.

If you can find it. Mine is on a cassette, not too bad sounding still, 30 years later...I'll see if I can transfer it.

  • @Branimir9000

Thanks but i stick with my humble opinion that this is inferior to the Call of the West version. Intrestingly you have the Stan version as the lead on your home page. This version i feel lacks pace and it sounds like someone singing the words without feeling them. I respect your opinion to think differently

  • @minniethe3rd ...right back at 'cha- just thought I'd bring it up for anyone to compare and contrast- ;-). Getting to talk to other fans about Stan Ridgway, WoV etc. is fun.

  • @Branimir9000

Hey - if you are asking for opinion of RoF i would pose the same question about the holy grail of "Mexican Radio" as sung by Grupo Sortivo? Since the tune is 30+ it is the first version that i have heard that for me incorperates the passion and sentiment of the WOV version. Please discuss.

  • @minniethe3rd Thanks, I would never have heard that version without your suggestion. No opinion...in my humble opinion.

  • @Branimir9000

    Youre welcome.

As Stan only seems to play Vegas these days i might have to make the trip to see him before he goes the same way as Johnny Cash. I suspect that you are from the other side of the pond to me. Where i am from, remake tunes like this tend to be disregarded as jokes. This isn't quiet there but the basic bones of the original WOV song are there coupled with 1950s retro sound effects

  • I'd never heard this before, thanks for sharing!!

  • This brings back memories!!!

  • mad track, better than johnny eh!

  • I didn't think that anyone could sing slower than Johnny Cash, but they just proved it is possible,

  • LOL. That's exactly right.!!! It was the campfire scene. I have this track on some WOV compilation CD I picked up at some point. Pretty sure I never had it on vinyl.

  • Awesome! I actually tracked down an original LP version of this because of your post. Nice work!

  • @unkledutch

I had that EP , I Think. Does it also have the Passenger, Grandmas House (kind of a Hitchcockian piece) and a few other creepy tunes on it.

  • I disliked the pacing of the whole thing. but Marc's guitar work sounded great.

  • Nice Post, My Friend...Great Song, Great Band, Great Album Cover , muchas gracias, Senor!

  • eta bien pero estubiera mejor si no se estubiera cortando y luego comensando

  • Incredible version~~ Thank you ~~~

  • testing

  • Wow--never heard this version before (but have always loved the others). Thx for posting!

  • No one even mentioned the cool ROBERT painting. This has always been one of my favorite covers of one of the best songs ever. Written by June Carter.

  • I now johnie whoud be proud!

  • @Ajen1959

    He and June were, actually!

  • version*

  • Great verion of the song. Thanks for making it available.

  • Your welcome! despite some of the negative comments.. this always will be one of my all time favorite songs. Thank you for posting a comment! :)

  • They tried something different here, which is praiseworthy, though I think it runs a bit long (even for a live concert). WOV with Prieboy had some high energy tunes and I think they should've actually raised the tempo here. Ridgway liked singing like a raconteur/storyteller and they could've easily got more aggressive with a Prieboy version. Oh well.

  • fuck, me and my buddies been playin this song a rip from cash, i set this loopy and massive distortion, sounded great and origonal, these bastards beat me to the punch by 30 years lol.. great upload thanks ^_^

  • Thanks for posting I had this on a cassette that was lost long ago.Loved it! Is it available anywhere?

  • I also have the EP with this cut on it. This is one of my favorite versions of the song.

  • versione splendida grazie del post

  • the ugly american's version, this whole album is Wall of Voodoo at their very best! It starts out with red light and just keeps getting better and better.

  • I'm sure I had the tape version of this album. I remember the clowns far too well. They make some joke about an Australian city on it and there's lots of booing about it.. lol.. What about the song "Museums" I think that was on another album of theirs I own. and "Big cities". If ANYONE has them, get them up on youtube ASAP!!! Thanks!!

  • "Museums" is on YouTube now.

  • I have this CD! I was just watching In Like Flint and I heard just about the exact guitar riff from this song during that! I went crazy for about two minutes trying to place it and then I realized it was at about 3:13 and on, during Ring of Fire. Youtube "The Derek Flint Movies" and listen to 0:45 and on! Thanks for having this up so I could confirm my sanity. :D

  • ALBUM VERSION??????

i have that EP, and this aint close!

the clowns fightin' are cool though!

  • No, that ain't Stan singing. Am I the only one who finds it funny when clowns get piss drunk and get into fist fights with each other?

I kinda like this song, has a spookie and dark edge to it.

  • No, you aren't the only one. I find fighting drunk clowns funny too..lol Thanks for the comment!

  • love this, thanks for finding it. Oh, and there is no god

  • pointless shit,it is not stan the man

  • This looks like the Chode and clowns from that cartoon show Tripping the Rift

  • nope - This is not Stan Ridgway singing. The original version can be found on Stan and WOV's first EP. This is a cover of the original cover! Not so good.

  • This isnt Stan for f sake

  • Uh, you're right.

  • for sure! thank-you for this vid! i agree with DjCoati...Fear and Loathing is a great picture of this!!....great analogy!!

  • Excellent, thanks for posting. My brother-in-law played in a band that opened for them, says their Ring of Fire was one of the best live performances he ever heard.

  • Who did the painting? And what's the title of it?

  • I mean the clown picture.

  • The name is in the bottom right corner, cant see it though. Type &fmt=18 and the URL to view it in high quality and see. I don't know who painted it though, sorry.

  • Robert Wiliams

  • Thanks!!!

  • dilana on rockstar supernova got her version from her. then adam got his version from her. its said in an interview with him

  • Thanks for posting this! I used to have the Ugly Americans album a LONG time ago and was hoping that someone would post this version...this album is AWESOME! Like something from a Fear and Loathing kinda road trip.

  • wow truly a great cover!

  • I see where Adam found his beautiful performance.

  • H-Blockx - Ring Of Fire,, does one of the best remake of the Ring of fire.

    amazing stuff

  • awesome !

  • This is not the WOV that I knew and loved...what the fuck??

  • i love johhny cash better

  • I have the original Ring of Fire record from Wall of Voodoo and this doesn't sound anything like it..!

  • i have the promo vinyl of this :p

  • i feel electrified in shockwaves everytime i hear this.

  • This is NOT Wall Of Voodoo, this is bullshit version after Stan Ridgway left, original version was on the self titled album.

  • Wall of Voodoo is MUCH better without Stan. Andy's vocals make Stan seem stupid and delusional. And Andy's solo stuff is amazing.

    JW

  • because the only source that inform me about those guys was the mexican radio cover by celtic frost....what is the musical genre they play???like a post/new-wave???and when wall of woodoo period was???only 80's?

  • You should see their numerous live versions on YouTube

  • Fucking brilliant!

  • yep it`s...a bit strange and that`s why it is amazing *smile*

  • really kick ass cover of a great old song i m a cash fan all day long but i put this one in my favorites thanks for posting it

  • First heard WOV's version of the song in a porno movie - believe it or not.

  • You wouldn't happen to remember what the name was, do you?

  • Nightdreams

  • Jesus, I knew that I heard this version in a "movie." Was this the cowgirl scene?

  • Yes, and a fine scene it is too.

  • Comment removed

  • @Zippy994 Gee...I was ashamed to say that too. I even remember the name of the movie was "Night Dreams."

  • @Zippy994

    Night Dreams 1981

  • @Zippy994

WE ALL DID! LOL, I believe it was the campfire lesbian scene in "Night Dreams", with Jacqueline Lorians and Danielle going at it. But that's just how I remember it! Shit, we're talking 1980 or 1981. Actually, I had the 10" WoV EP which included this song, the Passenger and a few odd little tidbits of wierdness.

  • @Zippy994 LOL me too. It was some time between 86 and 88

  • @Zippy994 Funny - so do I. I think one of actrresses' name is Jacqueline Lorrains. Beautiful English actress...

  • @Zippy994 really LOL!! I first heard WOV's version at a Christmas party last night. I think it is my favorite version of all time. Better than Social Distortion's. It is soo haunting. I luv it!

  • @Zippy994

where can i find that movie.

  • @pancakez20 Zippy994 is referring to Nightdreams. Nightdreams is mesmerizing. Nightdreams is dazzling. Nightdreams was directed by Francis Delia, who directed the music video for Wall of Voodoo's Mexican Radio. You can find the trailer for Nightdreams on Youtube (seach: "Night Dreams trailer (1981)").

  • @Zippy994 for some reason, that sounds familiar. scary

  • @Zippy994 The first time I heard this version was in that porno too!

  • awesome
