I can only wonder why Web TV never took off. I mean,.. I like this idea, but only cause it has the backing of Google. Integration of computer and TV is only the next logical step, but it's not a new one. What I want to know is how will this compare to past products and what will be the future of this as well?
Needs improvements! Boxee has the right idea of implementing social networks into a video/music experience but the way Google TV does it is just like a internet box featuring video and music (I believe that when you sit down to watch TV, you don't want to bother with a web browser like UI like the one in Google TV). And like @arkish0 says: I can't really see the difference between this and hooking your computer/laptop to a TV screen (also I get that Windows Media Center yuicky feeling)

Yeah, news flash- not everyone in the world speaks English as their first language. Get over it. He is easier to understand than most native english speakers
@myroslavrys At least hes educated. You must have quit school before they got to the lessons teaching you there's a whole world beyond your trailer park driveway and billions of people speaking thousands of different languages. Seems to me this is nothing more the a case of yet another ignorant yankee.
@bigbeeiii I'm only making the point that I think it's overpriced for $300 (~£186 now) given that it does less and you can get a full size computer for less.
@bigbeeiii Yes. The Scaleo E came with a keyboard, remote control (and IR receiver built in), media case, built in LCD, basic integrated graphics (upgrading them for £30 with a PCI-E card) and a silent fan. The CPU has a massive copper heatsink on it to help keep it quiet. It is very quiet.
To your credit, it was on special offer when I bought it. The Scaleo E is not sold any more, unfortunately, but you can still find them on eBay. I bought it from Maplin in the UK.
This is exactly what I mean(You got yours at a "special offer") and like you said it is not sold anymore.
I have yet to see anyone build an HTPC for $300 on youtube. If they do all they come up with are a glorified netbook components with a on-board video card that can barely play 480p, and makes any flash video from the web look like
stop-motion photography. For $300 logitech and google are giving you currently, the best turn-key system, without all the frustration of HTPC
@bigbeeiii Well, I guess so, but seriously I don't think much of this Revue compared to what a PC can do. Most graphics cards now have 1080p HDMI out and even my Celeron in the Scaleo E can play 1080p. Special offer or not, you can build a HTPC for less than $300 with the same case as the Scaleo E, I believe it's still available.
You still have not shown me an HTPC for $300 with all of the features that I have listed below that the revue has. Your Scaleo E still does not do full "wireless" harmony remote control of someones home theater system, or "wifi" control from an ipad, ipod, iphoneand android phone.
the video on the right called " Logitech's Revue Google TV demo "with becky worley from TWIT has the best info on the true use of the revue.
HTPC: Does pretty much anything, browse web, play videos, play PC games and plays DVDs/Bluray. Mine came with a Freeview/Over-the-air receiver and video capture, as well as WiFi+ethernet, so it almost eliminates everything under the TV . Has all the quirks of a PC, i.e. sometimes slow and doesn't have a 10 foot interface.
Revue: Plays videos and browses web. Android, so basic games. Pretty limited for $300.
I wouldn't recommend buying a new HTPC. Simply because it WILL cost more than $300. But if you build one, with a case for $70 and a mobo+processor for $120 (even a Celeron would be good) as well as things like a 250 GB HDD for $50 and maybe an optical drive you can pretty much hands down beat the Revue.
This is my opinion, it's apples to oranges really, buy whatever you like!
@bigbeeiii Oh and it runs Windows XP, unlike all my other computers which run Ubuntu, but it performs pretty well. It can play 1080p content with 60-70% CPU load.
Of course not. That is the whole point on them releasing this. But it's not as open as a HTPC could be. What ubuntu is saying is he could make the equivalent minus maybe 1 or 2 features for just as much or cheaper. What he is saying is you could go the HTPC way and maybe get a bit of annoyance in return I guess. By the annoyance I mean having more then 1 remote But that's about it.
While you're chatting to Google get them to fix YouTube. My subscriptions change from empty to a mixture of new stuff and videos I've already watched day on day. This one, for instance, I found by looking at you channel page as it didn't appear on my home page.
I am getting flashes of WebTV. The price and the keyboard/remote makes me think this isn't going to take off. This is just another piece of hardware. Bake it directly into TV sets or gaming systems like Xbox/Playstation and you might have something.
Computer content on tv/ tv content on computer, this is NOTHING new. I've had my computer connected to my HD tv for about three years now. I also use my computer as a DVR via Linux software which is completely non-proprietary and open-source.
@VideoGuyNC Hey, lets forget about FREETUBETV or TVPC they are free forms of TV as well. haha,, I even use Conkeror browser to watch them! I have to admit I have a pretty good "basic" cbale package with lots of local TV on FREETUBE, CNN, FOX, DISN, DISC,all of them on TVPC.
@Necrile lol my thoughts exactly.. my pc can do all these things with a hdmi cable to my tv. okay so i dont have a knobby search that bundles all my media but i can find all the media i need without using a spot light coz i use common sense and organisation #productfail indeed.
Or you could get a desktop, or laptop, with an HDMI output and it's probably be better looking than that. They've got a good idea going, but it seems kinda meh as to what it can do.
@lloyds30 yess but he "already" owns it.. you wouldnt buy an identical car to the one you already own would you if you already had it would you... its completely pointless...
In all honesty this shouldnt be marketed as a product as its really just a search engine. Host it advertise it and then charge people to advertise somewhere on it. thats all this should be. Seamless is its whole selling point and quite frankly im good with opening a tab or window. haha.

@ubuntututorials
In your example
where is the video card(on board video will not cut it for good video)
Where is the PCI card with HDMI in And HDMI out?
where is the PCI card with a harmony remote built in to control other components in your hometheater system.
where is the wireless keyboard remote?
where is the cable/satellite control and integration?
your $300 HTPC cannot compare to the logitech revue.
to get a HTPC to integrate into a current hometheater system you would have to
pay ~$800
