wtf?! man, let me explain ! This IS NOT black metal or gothic black metal ! This is fucking rock n' roll, occult psychedelic acid rock to be exact ! No offense or anything, but this is way better than all the fucking "let's see who can play the fastest" or the guy who screams the balls off the stupidest, you know... I like some black metal bands, but I'm not a big fan of it, though ! My speciality is THIS kind of rock music and within metal is Stoner Doom Metal !
@MrTehzim@MrTehzim I read about the story of Coven about one or two years ago on their Myspace Site, and found it really impressive. Since I liked their music as well I got all of their records until now. It is only the first record and the 7" from 1969 which are mainly focussed on the occult topic in lyrics. The 2nd and 3rd album follow the same musical line but without the occult spirit, although the occult theme is featured in some pictures in the innersleeve of the 3rd album.
Coven rules.Jinx's voice voice is truly powerful and carries the band, along with the excellent lyrics! So much more than a band,a magickal Occult religion..The beauty of Jinx is timeless..
Coven rules.Jinx's voice voice is trully powerful and carries the band, along with the excellent lyrics! So much more than a band,a magickal Occult religion..The beauty of Jinx is timeless..
this album is scary... i remember the first time i was listening to it and fell asleep... and woke up to the last track(the satanic mass) and was scared.
i was certain there was going to be a demon summoned in my room and i was going to have to fight it.
I love all of the songs on this album more than any other record....It truly has me bewitched. I love all of the Coven albums!! I have been listening to them since the mid eighties when I first discovered them with the "Blood On The Snow"album from 74, but lately(in the past three years) have become a serious collector of everything Coven.Jinx's voice just captivates my soul....
@HolyOrderr proto-black metal? that's venom, hellhammer, bathory and mercyful fate, dumbass ! This is psychedelic/acid rock with occult and satanic imagery !
@HolyOrderr The idea of black metal didn't appear until the early days of the 80s. The first band to have created the idea of black metal was venom. I know, they're NOT the first ones to have sung about satan and things like that. But they were faster and more aggresive than the other older bands who had satanic imagery, you know. And black metal as we know it today is kinda fast... And it evolved from early thrash metal and speed metal.
@HolyOrderr Their debut "Welcome to Hell" was more NWOBHM, but later on was clasified as being speed metal. Then you have their fucking second album: Black Metal. Voilà... there you have it. Venom said they were singing about witches, satan, hell, demons, sex and even drugs and they said this kind of themes to metal are considered "evil"... And then you have "black magic" which can be considered equivalent to "evil". So... that's Black Metal: evil metal !
@HolyOrderr But their themes were more about sacrificing virgins, demons and the devil, so that was the supreme idea of black metal, you know: an even faster version of speed/thrash metal with themes about the devil and "dark/evil" things. But, remember, dumbass: it was a very fast and aggressive style of metal ! Then you have mercyful fate, hellhammer, bathory, buldozer... These are proto-black metal; they were fast and very aggressive and yet technical !
@HolyOrderr Regarding this band, Coven is a band from the hippie generation, you know... the late 60s and shit. It all evolved around drugs, espacially lsd and marijuana. Hippies also had a great interest in the occult, even satanism and devil worship. Coven is an occult-satanic hippie band, just listen to their fucking sound and lyrics: they sound like they're on something psychedelic. And yet they're not aggressive or fast... they're smooth and groovy ---> NOT BLACK METAL AT ALL !!!!
@HolyOrderr I think you are the one that has no idea at all. The lyrics feature okkult themes, thats right, but the music itself is 70ties Psychedelic Rock. Have you ever heard about the other 2 records Coven released? The music is in the same vein although the lyrics are different and have no okkult themes anymore although there is are still okkult pics of the band in the innersleve of their third record.
@HolyOrderr With your argumentation any Pop band featuring okkult lyrics - such as E Nomine could be Black Metal.
I am sure you do not even own one of those records, Witchcraft included, so maybe you should be the one to shut up before starting to insult other people.
This is a song about Annie Palmer, the witch of Rose Hall. Jinx Dawson put her heart into her Great Work and I approve of her triumph of musical Will.
Satan must be so gutted about this...and shitty Black metal! only Boyd Rice,Death in June,A warning to the Curious,Blood Axis do real satanic music.

It's Psychedelic Rock, not Black Metal.
It's Occult, not Okkult (learn to spell please).
They're a Pagan/Wiccan band, not Gothic.

Creo que el que subió el video estaba pensando en otra banda. Coven tiene misterio y oscuridad pero para nada gothic black metal :)
