watching this movie now, I'm surprised this wasn't banned after the 9/11 attacks even though it came out in 1999.

When the narrator (edward norton) was beaten the s**t out of (by himself/alter personality) he was knocked unconcious. This is when his alter personality, tyler (Brad pitt) took over. He most likely re-armed the bomb, and took himself to a completely different building that he (tyler) had previously chosen to watch the chaos, along with his "private army". This is when the narrator woke up, and "chaos" breaks loose.
