Arguably, this many months into the Bush Administration, 9/11 had happened, and we were going to war in Afghanistan. In my opinion, Obama received the Nobel Peace Prize because during the time just before his Inauguration, he had traveled around the world, reaching out to the Muslim world, Europe, and East Asia, assuring the people in these areas that a new phase in foreign policy was about to begin. Personally, I'm proud of him.

Yea, I'm with ya on this one. I'm one of those white guys who's had to deal with the "You're being racist" comeback when I asked what he's done to deserve it. I voted for Obama. I campaigned for Obama and still have high hopes he'll stand up and really make an effort to change things but I just haven't seen much of it yet. It's still early in his Presidency so hopefully he WILL do some things to earn the adoration but he just hasn't yet. Granted, he's much better than Dubbya but a Nobel?

I think it is a not so subtle slap in the face to show how far America had sunk under Bush that Obama can get the Nobel peace prize for having done relatively little.

On the other hand, it seems to me that it will be a terrible burden for Obama to live up to, coming at this point in his presidency.

Also they gave him the award to give him momentum to achieve these goals. But I personally believe that the noble peace prize should be about what you have done, not what you might do in the future.
