I was there in the beginning when Tooter was broadcast on Saturday mornings. He was funny then but is even funnier now because I'm old enough to actually catch the story in its fullness. Ditto Rocky and Bullwinkle which lay me out on the carpet. This stuff is brilliant.
@8524frank My German mother and German grandfather always said Jews have the map of Israel all over their faces. If you google the map of Israel, it looks exactly like the face of Tooter Turtle. So, my respectful response to your comment is OPPOSITE DAY! The half-wit Tooter, who only eats animals after they are kosher-tortured, is the half-wit. The Wizard is the Wizard of Oz, member of the Master Aryan Race.
@redfordforpresident Please tell me you're not falling for that propaganda. Tooter Turtle had nothing to do with any so called 'Master Race'. This was just a very funny little cartoon. In fact, a lot funnier than lots of the crud that passes for cartoons today.
OMG i use that statement all the time . Mr. Wizard i dont want to be...... I use to see this when i was real young boy. I forgot the name of this show.
Occasionally, writers Buck Biggers and Chet Stover (with Joe Harris' storyboards) liked to satirize current TV series, putting Tooter right in the middle of them. Besides "THE UNTOUCHABLES" {"THE LAWLESS YEARS" was another TV show, albeit short-lived, that recounted true stories of organized crime [in New York] in the late '20s}, they also managed to parody "GUNSMOKE" and "CANDID CAMERA" as well..."Black Bark" was a not-very-nice recurring character Tooter often faced...to his ultimate regret.
Any kid from that generation cannot forget the voices of Mr. Wizard and Tooter Turtle. Funny that they had a mob related cartoon. Love hearing them again...thanks!
Wow! Thank you sooo much. I thought Mr. Wizard was gone for good. I use to watch Mr. Wizard every morning before I would go to school back in the early sixties. With Captain Kangaroo and Mr Green Jeans. Of course I only saw them in black and white. I never imagined I would get to see them in color. What great memory's. Life was so cool back then. We got to live in the best times for sure.
I didn't recall the German accent of Mr. Wizard until seeing it just now again after 47 years or so. I remember the lines distinctly at the end of every episode - although part is truly gibberish, but somehow it still made sense: "Be vat you iz, not vat you iz not, folks dat iz (vat dey iz) are the happiest lot."
Thanks for preserving and spreading part of our American heritage from the golden age of cartoons. It is a national treasure - part of what is right with the world.
When cartoons had meaning and soul, not the commercialized, PC crap that newer ones have. It's a shame; the CGI graphics could had made the new ones even better, but nobody wants to risk getting in trouble at the company.

No need to apologize. I like the 16mm opening and closing. Gave it a nostalgia feel. I'll look for more of these in the future. Great job!

Thanks for this cartoon-and for including the introduction and the closing...not like some.
There was another ending in the old King Leonardo show,when after the King and Odie saw the Tooter cartoon,Odie would quote Mr.Wizard as saying;
"Trying to be what we're not won't get us far.
"We should just try our best to be what we are."
