This is English drama at its very best. A Dark Adapted Eye and Gallowglass were equally well written, well acted and kept you on the edge of your seat.
I have been trying to find this on DVD for ages. Its one of the best BBC dramas ever. When you look at the poor quality of tv today i can't understand why dramas like this aren't aired.Instead we get shallow voyeurism shows or ones that are repeated every 6 months ? Others that i would love to see are Lady Chatterlys lover with Sean Bean,The Green man with Albert Finney and Malice Aforethought with Hywell Benett ( probabley his best ever performance ) And why aren't they on DVD at least ?
I worked in this - (Sound Editor) and cut some of it as well. I too thought it was a great script, and Doug Hodge put in good performance. We managed to create a really convincing feeling of the world closing in on the group. I have it on DVD now, but would love to see it re-transmitted, along with A Dark Adapted Eye and Gallowglass.
that's kind - Tim Fywell (Director) really got inside the script I think. Maybe we should start a campaign to have it re-transmitted. Oh and Paul Garrick was the Film Editor
@meadvale I remember being very taken by this when I first saw it on tv, and now I have it on DVD and return to it often. It is very slightly dated but that shouldn't matter as, in every other way, it still stands up very well. After all, Inspector Morse is still airing almost constantly. Excellent cast, including my favourite actor Jeremy Northam. Thank you to gazhack for posting the trailer.
In the early 1990's this country was still producing great drama TV, Sleepers, House of Cards, Fatal Inversion and Prime Suspect. Don't tell me what happened after that..
Hi Gareth, What are the chances? just looking through old videos that haven't seen the light of day for ages and inbetween flesh and blood and the curse of frankenstein I thought "I know that picture from Gareth's you tube page and it's the same clip.

I'd love to see this again. Even after 17 years I still regard it as one of the best productions I've ever seen on TV.

Great - thanks for this! I loved this adaptation. It's every bit as good as the book. Really haunting!

I loved this series when it came out. The ending is so creepy. Does anyone know if the series and ending are similar to the book?
