  • Fine group - should've fired the bass player for not tuning it (or knowing the song!!). I'd like to hear the album version that was discussed....

  • @phillfoote

Different Continental Five group, called Continental V

    Wake Me Up Girl- Continental(101)_67

    Wake Me Up Girl_ Radel(107)_67

This group song was recorded in 1959

Continental Five( with Lil Walters Band)- Perdelia/ Moe & Joe- Nu Kat (10132/ Idenitification number). Idenitification number shown since no selection number is used.

  • Correction! I went back and checked the Relic LP version and found that it is the same original sound material, but remixed (probably by Little Walter in Boston) to bring out some of the elements that are slightly hidden in the 45, making it, to my ears, a better listening experience, sez I.

  • One of my favorite songs, and one I have taught to groups I have sung with. However, I have this on the Relic LP, which presents a different take than this 45. I prefer the LP version, because everything is slightly more developed - lyric, smoothness, drum and chord changes, better guitar part. It's a little hard to believe that they went with this take for the 45. Other posts have the Relic take if you want to compare the two...

  • I looked and didn't see it. If you can find the link, please email it to me. I'd like to hear this version

  • does anyone have continental 5 on radel or continental label

  • I don't. Are they the same group?

  • @PJDooWop other group from texas-60s psychedelic - only two known 45s in existence-recorded at gold star now sugarhill-hoping someone might have access to them-thanks-great site -got lots of doowop on mine-all kinds of stuff

  • Great tune, helping me through the nightshift...Cheers!

  • The guy who owned this label was from Barbados and owned also a grocery in Petersburg,VA. Most of the groups he used were from Petersburg and Richmond. Sorry I don't have his name because I'm at work so I'll check the liner notes on my Nu Kat album.

  • I didn't realize there was a Nu Kat album. Relic release?

  • @PJDooWop Yep. The Relic CD had more songs. They thought that the masters were lost.

  • The masters of at least a few Nu Kat releases have been found. Impossible by The Veltones (or is it Velvatones - I forget) was issued on CD in stereo. I'm pretty sure the masters for My Lonely Friend by The Continental Five and Romance In The Spring by The Four Roses have been found. I didn't release the owner of the label is from Barbados.. That explains the caribbean flipside of this, Moe & Joe

  • @PJDooWop The guy's name was Benjamin F Allen. He wrote all the songs under the name Jonie Jon. Also Wayne Stirle bought the masters for "Impossible-The Velvetones and "My Lonely Friend-The Continental 5 for his Candlelite label.

  • Perdelia, Peculiar Pseudonym!

    SMOOOOOTH!

  • I'm thinking Perdelia is the name of the girl they wrote this for. I've met a Perdelia before when I lived in Maryland. I think the name's more common down south.

  • Until now, I've never came across this name in the UK.

    Thanks for the info.

    Nice song.

  • Ohh,This is Smooth!!,Wonderful Harmonys :)))

  • Keep em coming PJ. I can tell this one will grow on me.

  • I don't think it will take very long for this to grow on you

  • This is really good, what year, PJ?

  • 1959
