A fucking epic song. I watched the George Martin documentary last night, and I never understand all this shit he and his generation talk about how ground breaking the Beatles and Sgt Pepper was. This song on its own, not to mention the entire back catalogue of the band, shit all over that 60's shit.
Thats a pity they didnt play their early stuff but they r a great live band we saw em at an outdoor venue with really good PA the crowd went nuts..their rhythm section was awesome particularly the bass player..the young fellow on second guitar with the long hair probably wouldnt have been born when they were at their punk zenith...the cricket tour has gone too long for both teams there is a fair bit of injury and tiredness a very poor build up for the world cup for both of em.
@cam01235 - You did win the one day series though. I saw Wire last night in London - disappointed they didn't play hardly anything from the first 3 allbums. Still very good though.
yeah punk rock is alive and well in oz ..they did a special gig out here and it went down really well the young ones loved em...they gotta be the only surviving band from that era and as u said one of the best..i spent many hours tripping out to joy division there was some great stuff in those days it is great to see the ol boys still goin strong and the same they r awesome band i hope u enjoy their gig as much as we did down under even if its 30 years late..better late than never eh!
@cam01235 - It's wierd that today you can post about seeing them in OZ (i presume) a few hours ago and here I am reading your text and waiting to see them in London soon. All that time ago it was just word of mouth about the next band to hear or watch live. I missed them live back in the late 70's even though I bought and still have all the vinyls. One of the best bands ever along with Joy Division in my humble opinion. Can't wait!
Way ahead of their time... combining elements of psychedelia, punk and postpunk. Nobody was doing anything like this at the time. The wipers soon after combined the same elements and was equally as great but sounded very different.
great song, great band. wire doesn't get anywhere near the credit they deserve, which baffles me. even more baffling is why so many people worship joy division, when i believe wire's talent and contribution to music are far more significant.
@happyjessus true, but i like to not even try to compare them. They are totally different, even though they fall under the saame title of "Post punk".
It probably has to do with the Ian Curtis story and the fact that New Order got so friggin' huge. I like both bands but Wire's "Chairs Missing" is a monster of an album with which Joy Division cannot compete. However the studio stuff on Joy Division's "Still" dbl LP I play more than "Pink Flag" or "154" which I like also. Both great bands.
iLoveYouDexter - re: your question 'what is practice' - perplexed?, an apparent paradox eh!? - you may have to study some buddhism to get those lines!! lol!
ginoricca - yes, the 1st two albums are awesome! - and as 'hobosapiens' noted check out their 3rd '154' - (all their stuff really) - their last recent record 'Send' is Great! - they returned to a really aggressive sound - blows away so-called current punk bands 1/2, or 1/3 their age in power, fury, and intelligence!!!
What software did you use to create the video? Really nice effect. Goes well with the song.

I'll check '154` ! Do these new ... punks aknoweledge ?
I hope so, I have no animosity for them , on the contrary,
I only hope they aknoweledge that Punk is not only mohican hairstyles and peple shouting incomprehensible
rhymes !

Not to be picky, but their most recent release would be Object 47, along with Read And Burn 3 (both of which are very worth checking out).

Some 25 years later I can truly say that this sound will never ever bore me!
If i (hypothetically) could keep only 5 albums, then "154" and Colin's "AZ" would definitely be amongst them.
Wouldn't need to think really...
