I'm looking to adopt a cat I'll be a first time kitty owner and I really want either a Siberian, a Maine coon, or hopefully a Turkish angora but it's hard to find any cause I want to get one from a shelter cause it is ridiculous how much they are from a breeder. @merelientje1 Hi we have a siberian because of my husbands allergies. They don't shed much other than when they molt in the spring and fall. If you brush them a lot during that time you can catch the hair before it gets in the carpet.

But I'd just suggest to your mom that you help clean :) a lint brush and a roomba are useful accesories for a siberian :)

@RomeoCookiesRock ours is great with kids. He even puts up with being played rough with.

And besides. any kid that gets bitten or scractched by a cat was clearly not being respectful to the cat.

I had a beautiful REAL Siberian who lived to 18 (!) years old. What an amazing cat she was! Absolutely mesmerizing green eyes. From my experience, this breed is way too independent and fightsy till about 4 years old. Then they totally adjust to the owner and become very loyal. This breed does not like children as much, and, when young, never just "plays" - will leave a lot of scratch marks. Very intelligent. Mine learned how to use the light switches, as well as "push down" door handles.
