@maxneu It isn't stealing, it is using and developping. He gives credit. He did a tribute to Robert Johnson and always says how much he respects his heroes. And how can he possible play without borrowing from others? You can't play completely new licks. Imagine that every guitar player plays COMPLETELY different. It is impossible. Clapton only picked licks from his heroes and made it his own.
It's fine to borrow from others, everyone does. The difference is Clapton does an unplugged album that is lick for lick the exact same as the guys he is covering and claims it as his own, like he is a genuine blues man. He does a good job, I'll give him that, but I think he takes too much credit. Steve Howe, Frank Zappa, neither of them ever play anything I have ever heard anyone else do.
@maxneu He claims his own? The original artist is on the cover :P. He just choosed to stay true to the original and keep it simple (not as his electric work).
@maxneu I think Eric gives plenty of credit to those who came before him. Listening to Eric Clapton got me listening to all his influences. If it wern't for him, I doubt if I'd know Buddy Guy, Albert Collins, Robbert Cray, Robbert Johnson, Albert King, Howlin Woolf. Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker. He owes a lot to the blues. But he has repaid his debt by the bucket full.
Steve Howe would tell you to have a listen to Chet Attkins. then you'll know where the clap came from. No copy but influence
Eric is a brillant and a brave guy. That's what I like in him. He uses his gift for charity and don't hesitate to help others (crossroad center). God bless him!
My name's Fran Raya and I'm a female singer/songwriter from the UK. I was invited to support Eric Clapton on his Scandinavian tour performing a set of my own songs. His band were Gary Brooker, Albert Lee, Chris Stainton, Dave Markee and Henry Spinetti. It was one of the most memorable times of my career. I am so very proud to have toured with him. A great artist and true musician.
Love watching this drummer in the background - he's like an All-American 'Beach Boy' (I assume), esp. with the ocean hue shirt - but he followed a much better path and is playing with the great Clapton! He makes me smile through all these videos.
Seems odd to me that some of 'greatest' pieces performed during the recording process (this piece as well as "Crossroads") never made it onto the album. There are several on "From the Cradle" that I've gotten tired of easily, but not those 2!
Clapton is my absolute hero. He has not only influenced my music but my life. I look to Eric Clapton for so much, and i know that may sound wierd but he really has shaped my life as much as anyone else if not more than most. EC, B.B. and Buddy are my greatest Heroes.
Clapton has carried the torch well ever since folks were writing "EC is God" all over city walls in the 60's. So what's the future of the blues look like and who's gonna lead us there?
Someone just posted the Nothing But the Blues DVD on the bit torrent site, ZOMB. The complete Blues Rehearsals DVD this was taken from is also on ZOMB. Don't pay a scalper when people are sharing for free!
I share Nuthin' But the Blues on Soulseek & I think these rehearsal videos from Fillmore San Francisco are off of a video called 'Nothing But My Soul To Save' (Rehearsal documentary footage)
Where can I pick up a hard copy of "Nothing But My Soul To Save"? I've had an audio tape of this whole session for years, but had no idea where it had come from.
Soo good. Holy Jesus. So great to see him just singing wonderfully, and then bam, man, sick solo. Incredible.

Clapton should give credit where credit is due. He steals almost every lick from guys who did it 50 years earlier

Nothing But My Soul To Save - tour rehearsal Sept 28, 94, NYC (same tour as 'Nothing But The Blues')

If you look on 'Geetarz' website he has the DVD info posted as well as a DVD cover. Look in his Eric Clapton section.
Your audio maybe 'Nuthin' But The Blues' ?
It's the same music but from an actual concert in San Fransisco Nov 8-9, 94, not this rehearsal Sept 28, 94, in NYC.
