I want to know, if you just keep the EVH Button on, will it alter the sound? I have been plugins it into my pase 90 EVH and when I turn it on, it sounds like stuff is being altered. There is a huge story I have about all the problems I had with the flanger, not about it working just dealing with it. MXR should of made the EVH button the same size as the silver button they have on the pedal. Please MXR fix this pedal so us musicians can play gigs without screwing up!
This pedal won't work using I spot adaptor I've tried it and it's no good, swirls like a plane. Ether go through 9 volts like crazy or buy the 18 volt adaptor. I have since bought the adaptor.
It would have been really nice if someone would have explained that when you put batteries in this pedal, unplug the input because I've just wasted 2 Duracell 9v Bats by leaving it plugged in all night. They should write it in the instructions----then again----they should have fixed this problem with all pedals---- its only 2011 and pedals have done this since the 60's and '70's--- they haven't found a way around this yet???----- only stupid humans forget like this---what a joke.
Not much signature sound about it... All the "EVH" sound is doing is pushing the level a bit... If you crank the levels you get a slide whistle sound out of a flanger, its funny, but you can't actually use it for anything.
There is a grey area in the law, especially when it comes to ASCAP/BMI contracted artists. You could credit the artist, you could get permission from the artist, but ASCAP/BMI could also still sue you for royalties. They've done it over such things as ringtones being played in public, and other silly things of that nature that are non-profit performances. Would the law be on this guy's side for playing an EVH song to promote an EVH product? Maybe. Still, better safe than sorry I suppose.
Hello i got problem, i got this flanger and the sound in clean is amazing, but when use the crunch chanel of mesa dual with the flanger active the sound is really bad...how i can configured to use whit the distortion of the chanel 2 and 3 of my Dual rectifer? thank you...
Am I the only one that finds good within the fact that he can't play some Halen? It sux, but it can show that it's useful for more than VH, showing the pedal's versatility.
Whoa!!!! How is it even legal to say you can't play evh riffs? WHAT?! So if I played a show and covered a VH song and posted it on youtube... I could be sued?! I don't think you can get sued for playing evh riffs.
@freezazoid You understand absolutely nothing about the music business. Eddie Van Halen is not the one to give permission, it's the music companies. Yes, you can play as many VH songs as you like at your gig and post them on YouTube. If you're an effects manufacturer, no, you are not allowed to use VH songs to sell a product.
@WarmothStrat : No I do understand that it's because they're selling a product that they can't use a riff. So F U. I just think it's really ridiculous. Some exec. at MXR could easily review this pedal on his personal page and play EVH riffs and no one would care. Even though he's promoting the pedal. PLUS there's the business side of it where: why wouldn't Eddie and the record company and MXR all want to hear VH riffs to sell their products. It's contradictory.
@freezazoid Well your first reply seems as if you were wondering why. And there's no need for the FU stuff either. I agree with you 100% that it's silly that they can't use VH, or any other artists, riffs for these things. It'd be much easier for us, the consumer, to make a decision on the product. I apologize for the first line in my previous message.
You can play EVH riffs. You know how I know this? Because Weird Al Yankovich won a very important lawsuit for music copyright that was ruled that you are allowed to record covers as long as you give credit to the original artist. So he could just say "I am going to play riffs created by EVH" and that's it, he's legally allowed to.
@vaibanez17 That's not exactly true. The lawsuit was Campbell, aka Skywalker vs. Acuff Rose Music. It dealt with 2 Live Crew using the riff from Pretty Woman. 2 Live Crew & Weird Al are protected because their work constitutes satire. Satire is protected by the 1st amendment. The purpose of this demonstration isn't satirical. Although they could make a "fair use" argument, I'm sure GW would rather play it safe than get sued for copyright infringement.
@vaibanez17 ehhh... close. Weird Al made "parodies" which are considered a fair use of the original work under sections 107 through 118. One of the exclusive rights of a copyright holder (Van Halen) is the reproduction of the composition itself. Anyone who wants to record a cover of one of his song's must have a mechanical reproduction license, or, if considered a "live performance" of the song, as this video might be considered, must pay the proper Performing Rights Organization.
@vaibanez17 I don' t it could be the same way with all these guys making frankenstrat's or copying anything else he does, without the EVH emblem on it. By technicality when you buy this flanger the phase 90 etc. your paying part of that patent with the EVH name. So technically he could sue oh i dunno, millions and millions of people lol
@vaibanez17 yeah but you cant sell, whereas Guitar world sell the DVD with the magazine, so you cant make money on someone elses stuff, weird al doesn't sell his covers on cd's
@xXxEMeehan100xXx Don't be naive Brother. Of course Eddie cares about money. He, like many other muscians, is concerned about being ripped off because it has happended in the past so he's especially sensitive to matters like these. You think he's branded everthing from guitars to strings, straps and pedals because he doesn't like money?
@superstringbender of course your right! everyone wants money! and he is rightfully concerned about being ripped off... im just not sure that he would specifically say you cant play part of my song in an ad for my stuff. The maker of the vid is probably just being cautious to avoid any trouble anyway. :)
It's EVH who's resposible for that copyright thing. In these Guitar World reviews they can't use any band original material. They always play 'close enough' riff's. If he's playing a Dimebag guitar or amp he plays kind-of-pantera riff'sand you even know what song he is trying to emulate. (As in this video also) So it's not EVH being a dick, it's the music business being a dick. They don't use any band's riff's even if they could.
When bands sign contracts, they usually lose the rights to their songs. I'd bet money it's the label or publishing company that is refusing. Just about the only band that decides for themselves is Zeppelin.
i hope you guys are right. EVH is a boyhood hero of mine and I hate to think he was that much of a wad. If it wasn't for him I never would have gotten in rock or guitar.
@jhuggins27 It's less EVH won't let him play EVH riffs and more Warner Bros won't let him play EVH riffs. I think Eddie would be okay with it but Warner Bros have the legal rights to the songs.
I have the EVH phase 90 and I have to say these things are pretty much a waste of money. They sound amazing but I use it like once a month. Plus sound pretty much the same.
I bought this pedal on 2-2-09, n here I sit, less than 1yr later, and its already took a shit! No one touches my rig, it hasn't been abused in any way, and its absolute junk. Worked fine @1st, started hissing, then died. I will NEVER buy ANYTHING EVH again if this is representative of what he puts his name on. A $189.99 JOKE! If i knew where he lived, I'd go return it... by throwing it through his window! VERY dissapointed in what such a great guitarist is willing to put his name on for a buck!
It's weird that EVH is being a dick about copywrite when this clip is promoting the pedal that bears his name. It would be in his best interest to allow GW to use VH's material for this clip.
@superstringbender I'm sure Eddie Van Halen would love him to play his riff, I think it's might be the productor or the Label that don't want, or may be MXR. Eddie Van Halen won't get so much benefits or money from that pedal, but MXR will benefit.
@superstringbender Its honestly probably somehow or another not his fault. he might not even own the rights. alot of times musicians sell the rights to their music, sorta like the beatles deal.
@superstringbender you really think its evh its the companie that they recorded with that wont let them do it they own the rights to the songs and there ofr the riffs
@LocomotiveRockers From your limited vocabulary I'm guessing you're still working on that law degree. You're typically allowed to use 10 seconds of copywrited music, if you credit the writer(s). So I'm guessing someone along the line made a legal threat for them not to use the music. Why don't you get in on the conversation when your GED comes in the mail.
@superstringbender Its not Van Halen thats being stringent about copyrighting laws, it will be the record company that owns his material, which is most likely going to be Sony... who seem to do the same with most artists, if they wanted to play any Van Halen songs on this demo, they would have had to fork out a ton of cash for every song they use. :/
@superstringbender Eddie isnt the one who cares about copyright, its his managers... Eddie said that "music is not a competition" but his managers care about money.
does anyone know the actual settings that EVH used on his flanger? I'm thinking of getting a normal MXR flanger and I want to know what Eddie's settings are so I don't jave to pay extra for the EVH version
In more technical words. When the pedal is on it is sending the signal through the whole pedal circuit including the buffers. And then when the pedal is off it does the same thing.
if the pedal is True Bypass then there is an alternate signal chain that your guitar goes through instead.
Yeah im influenced a lot by Paul Gilbert, Joe Satriani, Ted Nugent, Alex Lifeson, and of course Angus Young. Looks like we share share a lot of musical tastes in common.
yep, I like all those people you just listed. My top guitarists are: Eddie Van Halen, Angus Young, Jimmy Page, Joe Perry and Joe Satriani. In my opinion, Ed is the best, but that's just my opinion
EVH is good but he definately is not the best guitarist out there. Did you know he didnt actually invent tapping? George Lynch did. Just wondering, what gear do you use. I use: EVH 5150 III Dunlop Zakk Wylde Wah Ibanez Tube Screamer Vox Satchurator EVH Flanger EVH Phase 90 Vox Time Machine MXR Chorus and an MXR Smart Gate and Korg Tuner. Ill tell you my guitars if you would like to know, i have like 9 or something.
sorry they weren't the first Jimmy Webster was the first guitarist to use finger tapping in the 50's. I'm sure Eddie or Geroge weren't influenced by Webster but he was the first to use the technique.
Youve got it all if you just had a good tube amp! You should try the satchurator. Its a great distortion pedal. my guitars are: Fender Strat MIM Fender Strat w/ Floyd Schecter C-1 Classic PRS Custom 22 Gibson Les Paul ESP Kamikaze PRS Tremonti PRS Modern Eagle 2 Squier Hello Kitty Strat Epiphone Thunderbird Bass Gene Simmons Axe Bass (SO COOL)
this guy shreds he has one of the best paying gigs he does all the guitar world reviews. That means he gets paid to play with all the new toys. Who cares what his freekin voice sounds like you must hang with gays to know what they sound like.
Nice! What guitar is he using? It looks like a California carved top but I'm not sure

@superstringbender I'm sure Eddie Van Halen would love him to play his riff, I think it's might be the productor or the Label that don't want, or may be MXR. Eddie Van Halen won't get so much benefits or money from that pedal, but MXR will benefit.
HolyGK 1 year ago
@superstringbender Its honestly probably somehow or another not his fault. he might not even own the rights. alot of times musicians sell the rights to their music, sorta like the beatles deal.
Hellad00d 1 year ago
@superstringbender you really think its evh its the companie that they recorded with that wont let them do it they own the rights to the songs and there ofr the riffs
super7o 1 year ago
@superstringbender if you watch a lot of pauls videos youll notice he brings up sometimes that he cant play exact riffs
griffinmpable 1 year ago
@superstringbender your fucking retarded they can't play anybody's music not just halens's
LocomotiveRockers 1 year ago
@LocomotiveRockers From your limited vocabulary I'm guessing you're still working on that law degree. You're typically allowed to use 10 seconds of copywrited music, if you credit the writer(s). So I'm guessing someone along the line made a legal threat for them not to use the music. Why don't you get in on the conversation when your GED comes in the mail.

@superstringbender Maybe Eddie thinks the guy speaking is a tool? Just listen to the voice man.

@superstringbender He's a great guitar player, but he's always been a douchebag too...
Kassarth 1 year ago
@superstringbender he probably gets royalty on it anyway

@superstringbender Its not Van Halen thats being stringent about copyrighting laws, it will be the record company that owns his material, which is most likely going to be Sony... who seem to do the same with most artists, if they wanted to play any Van Halen songs on this demo, they would have had to fork out a ton of cash for every song they use. :/
Sucks right?
SammyRhyno 1 year ago
@superstringbender i thought a true artist is the one who share his talent / music to others and make them inspired.
humpreystrong 1 year ago
@superstringbender Eddie isnt the one who cares about copyright, its his managers... Eddie said that "music is not a competition" but his managers care about money.

does anyone know the actual settings that EVH used on his flanger? I'm thinking of getting a normal MXR flanger and I want to know what Eddie's settings are so I don't jave to pay extra for the EVH version
therocker03 2 years ago
Just pay the $20 more and get the EVH. Trust me. Its just a better pedal.
gibsongod15 2 years ago
ok, but how is it better?
therocker03 2 years ago
built better, looks cooler, has eddies sound, and true bypass.
gibsongod15 2 years ago
ah right. what is true bypass by the way?
therocker03 2 years ago
where when the pedal is off and your tone is unaffected. Many companies like boss and other cheap companies dont have it and it wrecks your tone.
gibsongod15 2 years ago
In more technical words. When the pedal is on it is sending the signal through the whole pedal circuit including the buffers. And then when the pedal is off it does the same thing.
if the pedal is True Bypass then there is an alternate signal chain that your guitar goes through instead.

ok thanks for the info. love your channel BTW

What about it? Like the favorites?
gibsongod15 2 years ago
Yeah, your favourites are awesome.
therocker03 2 years ago
Yeah im influenced a lot by Paul Gilbert, Joe Satriani, Ted Nugent, Alex Lifeson, and of course Angus Young. Looks like we share share a lot of musical tastes in common.
gibsongod15 2 years ago
yep, I like all those people you just listed. My top guitarists are: Eddie Van Halen, Angus Young, Jimmy Page, Joe Perry and Joe Satriani. In my opinion, Ed is the best, but that's just my opinion

@gibsongod15 Hold up,,, I thought Jimmy Page did.. Atleast that's what Ed VH said ?
ziggy72170 2 years ago
Nah George Lynch was the first to be regognized for doing it. BTW. what song would Jimmy Page tap in anyways?
gibsongod15 2 years ago
@gibsongod15 Jimmy Page tapped on the solo section of Heartbreaker on Led Zeps 2nd album from 1969.
Don't know if Jimmy was first but EVH has cited Jimmy Pages tapping as the original inspiration for his own tapping.
Rockpig1969 2 years ago
sorry they weren't the first Jimmy Webster was the first guitarist to use finger tapping in the 50's. I'm sure Eddie or Geroge weren't influenced by Webster but he was the first to use the technique.
