The sound of their harmonies is so mellow and creepy, even more so in 'Ida, sweet as apple cider' but the sound of this is so luscious. So sad that John Jr. died so young, John Sr came foward to carry the legacy on for ever more.
I gotta admit Bioshock 2 bringed me here. And seriously it's a good thing. Alot of people discovered theses old songs because of video games that play old songs like this and make them listen to songs of this time. I discovered the inkspots yet and seriously it's a blessing. Maybe theses old songs while be popular again and replace the pop? I can still dream while listening to these wonderfull songs.
I just hope people actually like the song - rather than associating their like with the movie or TV show for their like for the song.
Because this music is too beautiful to just be known as "oh yeah, that song from that movie!" It's like when I hear kids talking about "Freebird" as the song from Guitar Hero. It's SOO much more than that.
Awareness through communication to the uniformed, most important, when they are receptive. Approach and delivery of any message takes time and practice that can succeed through forming a nurturing network from all walks of life.
2:48 video: "You Always Hurt the One You Love" is a pop standard, words by Allan Roberts and music by Doris Fisher (May 2, 1915 – January 15, 2003). 1944 # 1 hit for The Mills Brothers. From the left: Herbert, Donald, Norman Brown with guitar, Gene Smith, John Sr.
There is (?) a bar in Hollywood Beach that has the Mills Bros Cab Driver on it. I was hooked and the Bloody Marys didn't hurt either. Get the "Best -Of" from 20th Century Masters.
@n3bulous Thats a good idea! Wow! I've never even thought about that! I've always been a big fan of 40's music. And I'm sure i haven't heard all of the hits from back then. I'm going to start doing that! Thank you! :)
Oh, and yes! You should definitely go see it soon. It's really good.
@poppinalex14 It's a good song. I like "Maybe" & also, "I don't want to set the world on fire". I like Louie Armstrong too, especially "Kiss to build a dream on". Actually, I like too much music to list. Although I prefer some musical types to others,(Classical & Jazz) I like at least something from practically almost every/any musical genre. I never understood people that like only a few or worse, only 1 type/style/genre of music. That leaves too much great music to miss out on, ya know?
@gjc82071 Ah yes! Those are good ones. I also love "Whispering Grass", you know what I love about the Ink Spots? Their songs have similar introductions, it's like each song I just melt. Louie Armstrong is amazing, one of my favorites is his cover of "La vie en rose". It's just beautiful. You should listen to Benny Goodman! "As long as I live" , its awesome. I know what ya mean, people miss out on great music today because they prefer to listen to 1genre. It's sad. I try to listen to everything.
@poppinalex14 Not only/just similar introductions (The Ink Spots), but many songs have a speaking/talking part. (wiki the Ink Spots for that/& or more info). When I hear their songs start, although I was born about 40-50yrs too late, I feel like, I can almost picture myself in the 1930's sitting around a radio in a living room. I DO like/listen to Benny Goodman, & also Glen Miller + Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Jazz, Blues, Ragtime,etc....I told ya, I love way, WAY too much music to list. :-)
@gjc82071 Yeah, I was born in the 90's, and I love this music. I wish they would bring it back. You listen to ragtime? I love ragtime! And Glen Miller is amazing, I know how to play alittle bit of "In the mood" on the guitar. It's kind of freaky how you can imagine yourself in the 30's, cause I thought I was the only one who thinks of stuff like that. I always imagine myself at a diner in the 40's ordering a coke or something while listening to Edith Piaf and Vera Lynn on the radio. :)
@poppinalex14 I was born in the 90's i feel so melancholic with this music. I love Glen Miller so much, specially one song: "Ev'rything I Love". Another beautiful song is Tommy Dorsey's "I'll never smile again". Sometimes, in the night, I put my pen drive with this kind of music and i put it in our vintage music player with vynil player too, In the middle of the dark of the night, in the living room crying and dancing with a fictional 40's lady. Sounds rare but the feelings I feel are amazing...
@LuxClassical Haha, I completely know how you feel.. and it is amazing. I really love Glen Miller, too. You should listen to Vera Lynn or Edith Piaf, they are really good, as well as Benny Goodman. Yeah, it is nice to meet people around my age that love this kind of music. Honestly, I thought I was the only one, but I guess not. :) I just wish they could listen to more stuff like this, rather then what they do now.
Just listen to those voices. Smooth, harmonizing and clear. Loved them since I was pre teen, that was the first time I paid attention to them. Glad my mom had their records. I should dedicate this song to my hubby everyday.
