I thought I was pretty specific: I read a young man's blog. He had wondered for many years why he wasn't like his friends, and was finally diagnosed. He referred to himself as "autistic" since he felt it was part of his being, not a disease he had. To each his own, I guess.
I have cerebral palsy and got music therapy for several years. I was getting it to help deal with depression. It greatly increased my self confidence and ability to express feelings. I love to watch the examples of the wide scope of things that music therapy can help. He has good rhythm. Maybe some music lessons are in his future? :)
i really hope this video isn't in breach of client confidentiality. Perhaps it's a good way to promote the profession but client needs come first, always
you sign an agreement form, which includes various stages of declination, so that it is up to the parent or guardian of each underage client wether to preserve the child's anonimity or share the skillful application of these progressive techniques, including successes. It's really a philosophical question, as there is no exploitation here, quite the contrary. I wish the world COULD see & maybe understandhow important these interventions are - LIFE affirming inspirational PRODUCTIVE support!
@eternitarian I think you may have that backwards. Many people diagnosed with autism do not prefer to be characterized as autistic, but would prefer to be recognized as 'having autism' or 'being diagnosed with autism'
Great job Nathan!
I'm doing my final on Music Therapy for my college, I think this is great. How has Nathan responded to the therapy?

I read a blog not too long ago written by a young man who was very specific that he (and others) are autistic, that they do not "have autism."

I heard a young man recently clarify his identity thus: "Mommy, I not autistic, I Skyler"
