  • how did they stretch out this story to become a movie?

  • This was alright, but I think a version without narration, slower cuts to focus on the artwork and metallica's where the wild things are playing would have been ace. Somebody should get on that.

  • Man this was my favourite book EVER

  • helped me do my homework

    thank u thank u thank u thank u

  • Thumbs up if this is a scary movie. (The real one).

  • takes me back to my preschool days<3

  • Great story. But the narrator does not have proper expression or cadence.

  • @oriolesfan61 sounds a bit like george carlin

  • I am a 15 year old girl, and I can say I still love this book. I love the actually meaning and everything, I can't wait to get myself another copy! Well done on the video, absolutely loved it. (:

  • Well done.

  • This book will always remind me of my two sons!

  • I have an adaptation posted as well, using the music from the song "Wild Thing"

  • thanks for posting and making this ! love this story and movie so so much !!!!

  • I'm surprised I was not scared of this book or at least a little creeped out when I was younger. I loved this book and I still do.

  • @AlexPanda1991 how?

  • i watched this and this is sooooooooooo not how it happened !!!!!!!!!

  • wait?...what the hell? this is it?! but nothing happens! i thought it was as long as the movie or at least just a lil bit longer than this! anyway i loved the movie! XD

  • @tinseltownchick They took a beloved children's book, with about 20 pages, and turned it into a movie. So, of course they added things, built the characters more, and whatnot. It was an amazing movie. But the book will forever be more amazing.

  • Stfu you spastic you do not understand the meaning of troll

  • wow..the movies was totally better than this

  • Ddsdssqqwwefgjkkiolvdffvvvfdxijjjjhjuyheyrujjr

  • lets rape a dead woman , ha ha madelyne engle you bitches. yes, history does not like you.

  • Happy for this book was never printed in Denmark! It would have scared the shit out of every kid and almost did that to me!

  • OMG the guy that voices sounds like spiderman!

  • Thank you for taking me back to the days when this book thriiled and terrified my brother (and possibly, me). This video is beautifully done.

  • Is this the whole story? I thought there would be more after seeing the movie Where the wild things are. Ow well, still amazing! :)

  • @Liekefriet Actually the book came first :)

  • @princessthyemis

I know the book came first, but I thought that the book was more too, just like the movie. :)

  • Who wouldn't like this/ Crazy!

  • Omg this is so fake. Btw your all old hand look at where the wild things are xD perves. And yes I am a troll

  • @TheLouisCL By 'troll' do you mean illiterate?

  • I remember this! I was kid... and this book had those wild pictures in it.. that captivated me. I had forgotten about my wild friends.. but this.. this brought them all back... back to me:)

  • @jkelin thanks! :)

  • Thanks! Very kind of you to say. I'm the one who made it.

  • this is awesome :D whoever did it made it REALLY well....I'm going to use this in my classroom for my kids soon :) Thank you!!

  • I started boppin' when the 'wild rumpus' song came on.

  • Finally someone explains this wierd storyline, I Say This because The film is comfusing.

  • did he died?

  • can't believe they allow people that are on heroin to write children brooks.

  • @gfholliday Some of the best books ever written were written on one drug or another. The reason people like you hate drugs is because they change how people think. Isn't it at least possible that something creative could come from that? Or are you one of those narrow minded types. You know, the sort that would kill half a billion people for not wanting to share your world view. Jeez!

  • The Wild Rumpus song is called "Pony Ride II," by Geza X. I think it's on iTunes. It was originally on an album called "You Goddam Kids!"

  • What song was playing during the wild rumpus? that song was amazing.

  • didnt know Max had the Sharingan...

  • @Sobe501

They actually did, it's called just Wild Things. Idk if Maurice sendack actually wrote it, but I've heard it's based off of the movie.

    :)

  • I wish they made a novel out of this

  • thank you.

  • Love his work so much!!Go Maurice!!

  • After seeing the movie and looking at the book again, I can see why Alexander is treated as the most-ignored wild thing; it's because he's showed the least in the book compared to the other six. I guess the people who made the movie wanted to poke fun at that.

  • LET THE WILD RUMPUS START!!!!

  • well, this brings back memories : ' ) It was my favorite book at a child, I read it almost every night before bed :)

  • The movie is pretty much the same thing

  • I'm not going to lie, this is one of my most FAVORITE books ever..........I even stole a copy from the library when I was 11.

  • omg i have been looking for this! im 14 & have never read it, so now im going to watch the movie(:

  • good movie

  • Thank you so much for posting this Mr Kelin. My two year old loves the book and when we read it, he says that he is MAX! He also loves the movie and when Max runs, he says "Look momma, I run!"

  • @MantraMommy He also identifies... KW as me and Carole as his daddy. When KW swallows Max, he tells me. "Momma take me out, please."

  • Hi, thanks for your note. I'm really pleased to know this. I originally made this video for my daughter about three years ago when she was nine -- still a little kid, more or less. Now she carries a purse. I had no thoughts of YouTube at the time. It's great to know the video appeals to two year olds!

  • @MantraMommy

you can buy a DVD @ BN.com which is made from an old film strip from the 70's, it includes many other great Sendak stories, In the knight kitchen, Pierre and others with Carole King singing, my kids are now in their 20's and we still sing the songs!

  • I was struck by the cover, so i bought it, and i think its very skillful the way the characters show a human personality in discord with their outer funny and tender appearence. Even the plot isn't stupid, after all.

  • i just finish waching the movie it was good but kinda scary at some parts and i just finish reading the book very different but good 5 stars

  • On movie, KW is so sweet.

  • Thank you for posting this. I love it. It reminds me of my childhood. =]

  • i just finished watching the move it was awsome 5 stars

  • the movie was soo bad. so dark and disturbing. no direction.

  • you obviously can't handle adaptation or maturity. The movie just exasperated on the depth of the book. If you didn't like the movie then you don't understand the book

  • @qwelton yeah I thought it was very creepy too, I rented a kids movie and felt like I was watching a horror, my friend even jumped in shock when they ripped the birds arm off. It was ok movie though.

  • the movie was kinda psychological! that boy needs help! but it was still a nice movie.. but i cant believe carol took of the goats arm!

  • Nah. It was the bird's arm...

  • it wasnt the goat's arm it was the bird looking thing, maribia96

  • you're right!! i forgot!! :D i still feel bad for him :( i really dont like the goat ¬¬

  • is this the whole book?

  • I loved the book, and I loved the movie. Spike Jonze did a great job expanding on the book. Even this clip brings happy tears to my eyes.. Were all still children inside, and its nice to know that we arent alone in dealing with all these feelings.

  • The movie is waaaay diffrent then the book

  • carol is a boy monster

  • I ordered the movie on rogers on demand

it was really good!!! I used to love the book!!

  • I remeber always taking ths book out, in kindergarden. What a classic. I'll never forget that book <3

  • love the movie

  • i think the moral is that the grass is always greener. sure, it's easy to run off away from your troubles but when you see that other people have far less than you, really, it's easy to be grateful for what you have. in this case, love is more valuable than freedom, which wasn't really freedom at all, as the wild things wanted to trap max because they lacked love and guidance. so although life with mom wasn't perfect, there was love and a bond, and that won out.

  • dillon you're a douche, his question may have been "stupid" to you, but you're comment was more so. Unnecessary and rude is what it was. Sartorius, the wild things are parallels to max's emotions and family. When they crown him their king, he learns to "govern" his emotions. Basically the moral of the story is that life is hard already, so why make things harder by letting your emotions get the best of you.

  • Comment removed

  • Really? You're gonna talk shit on the internet? Grow up dude

  • Comment removed

  • @sartorius97 its not stupid..i dont get it either lol

  • @sartorius97 Max learns to be more human, a better human, to love and to be loved, to conquer his fears, his inner demons, self control, especially the ability to master his emotion.

  • @sartorius97 I think the moral is not to act like a savage all the time.

  • @sartorius97 I think (key word THINK) is that mother still loves the crazy wild kids...his soup was still hot

  • @sartorius97 I wondered the same thing, and when I talked to my friend she said that each of the creatures was one of Max's emotions. It makes more sense when you read the book AND watch the movie. :)

  • THE MOVIE WAS SOOO AWSOME

  • i cryed so hard <3

  • loved this book as a child. the movie was really good. i was suprised

  • How can I get this on a DVD so the kids watch it. It's a pain sitting in front of the computer. They love it.

  • Do you mean to say that your kids love the video posted to YouTube? Or do you mean they love the movie, "Where the Wild Things Are"? (I wonder because I'm the one who made the YouTube version.)

  • yes the you tube version. We have not seen the movie yet, but they love the book and seeing the pages on screen. Is there anyway to put it on a dvd for the tv??? Maybe a dumb question.....

  • Yes, there is. I burned it to DVD after I made it a couple of years ago (for my daughter, originally). I can copy the DVD (I think I deleted the original files) and send it to you. Just send me an address.

  • How do I send an address to just you.

  • Hmm...a dilemma...I don't want to post my regular email address here...if you are on Facebook, search for John Kelin and send me a private message. You'll probably have to become my Facebook friend. If you aren't on FB...I'll think of a plan B. There must be a private messaging feature here on YouTube...?

  • @JAKL678 idk but if you type ok in front of you tube at the top of the page you can download it to your labtop but you might need to go to a web sight to convert it

  • i saw the movie i loved it

  • This movie is by far the best movie I've ever seen in my 17-minus-11-days years on this planet

  • @ROFLsyrup5

this is an amazing film and way up there

but clearly you haven't seen a lot of films if this is "by far" the best movie

and I don't personally have one that's my favourite but there are many I love

  • @RichardvsHimself

    I've seen plenty.

But when I saw this it blew me away.

More than any other movie I've ever seen.

You can disagree with me sure, but don't judge and say that I "clearly haven't seen a lot of films" because I think this is the greatest one. We each have our own opinion.

  • @ROFLsyrup5

    yeh but

    by far

jus' sayin', there are movies that match WTWTA IMHO

  • I'm 31, and I was floored with how well Spike Jonz did the movie. It was so brillant. I sat in my chair for about 5 minutes after the lights had come up. It is a VERY DEEP movie, but one that will certainly go over most peoples heads.

  • I'm seeing this in the Cinemas tomorow & Now I can'twait to see it since all of you guys said it's a wonderful movie! Thanks! XX

  • Caedmon

  • Can't wait to see it!!!!!

  • the movie was sorta different but id loved either way

  • @darkangelsatoshi Yeah, it was really nice and beautiful =)

  • @darkangelsatoshi The movie was actually really dark and bleak wasn't it! A great movie, but I was surprised. There was a kid crying at one point coz it was a bit scary and heavy for little ones.

  • Read me another one!! Read me another one!! I promise I'd do my homework and clean up my room... :)

  • halloween sound effect at beginning from PICKWICK records 'sounds to make you shiver"

now where is Peter Schickele version???

  • im sorry if this question sounds stupid but what does the where the wild things are about?

  • my mom used to read this to me every night before bed. I watched the movie and it is my favorite movie ever.

  • Your comment proves that your IQ is too low to understand the meaning this story has for children, and adults alike, and the history behind it, and it also proves don't see underneath. It's not just a story about a boy going to a made-up land with wild things roaming around.

Do the world a favour and don't have children.

  • And you just proved that you can avoid answering a question by writing a whole bunch of insults, without taking the time to explain an answer! And to take it a step further, you just proved to everyone that you are no literary genius based on your sloppy grammar, and your lack of skill for completing sentences.

  • I havn't heard of a woman saying this however I did eat a child last week for exactly that reason.

  • there is 3 of these versions so far

one is very rare being read on a record by a woman

    wish i could find it

  • Don't worry i had a hard time under standing that as well :)

  • "I'll eat you up" is what he said to his mother while pretending to be a wolf. Since this was all Max's imagination, I guess it's what he imagined monsters or wild things to say.

  • I never understood why would the wild things say, "Please don't go. We'll eat you up. We love you so." Why would they say that?

  • the wild things love max so much that they could eat hin up

  • well it's because he and the wild things are the same. they don't really know how to express themselves properly.

  • if he left they would eat him. thats what they meant. they loved him so much that they didnt want him to leave. so if they threatened him with eating him if he decided to leave

  • Have you ever heard a woman say of a kid: "he's so adorable, I could eat him up"? That's my guess.

  • I've never read the book but i saw the movie last night and although some parts didnt really make sense to me the puppetry and cg were awesome and I really liked the movie.

  • keke i saw this at school

  • i really love this story.

  • sorry i should say 'people's grammar' before to try and pick fault in what i posted

  • cant wait for the film to come out in england

  • Thank you for this addition to youtube!

It can proudly counteract the movie fodder :)

  • Just saw the movie it was great!

  • omggg i read this book over an over when i was a child i need to see the film

  • no tosser to read something and to have read something is spelt the same past and present tense. Red is just the name of the colour. Why would you come on youtube and try and correct peoples grammar as if you are superior or something

  • Read, and read and different things, spelt the same.

  • @FOTFMikayla

But if u read it its the wrong spelling

dont u learn from the school

    of your teacher

  • I wasn't talking about the way that person spelt it, I was just stating that they are spelt the same and read differently.

  • Alright! alright!

    your correct!!!

    Blah blah blah!

    whatever it is!!!

  • @Joshuaemo8

    lmao.

  • this story gets more beautiful each time I hear it.

  • the movie was so very great:)

  • amazing movie

  • I LOVE THIS.

  • =((( Why is everyone being so mean to both the book and the movie...? I mean everyone is entitled to their opinion, but gosh, can't you at least say it in a mature way rather than flaming it? Have some respect...

    I liked both ^-^

    And on a lighter note...

I'M MAX FOR HALLOWEEN! Teehee. =]

  • The book was a very unique collection of interesting illustrations. The movie fails miserably to bring that wonderful book to the silver screen. The main reason for that is the director is Spike Jonez - who consistently makes terrible movies. The puppetry in this movie is very nice though.

  • Really?? I dunno-I've heard a lot of mixed reviews on it. But I saw an interview with the author and Spike Jonez, the author said he captured what he meant to illustrate perfectly...

    *shrugs* Differences of opinion FTW!

  • Well, I suspect that in the interview, it was actually a promotional interview for the movie to sell tickets. The interviewer may have been asking some questions which implied that the movie had some weaknesses - and Jones & Sendak defended the movie by saying it turned out as they wanted.

  • *pouts* That's a rather pessimistic take on it...but I guess it's possible...

  • 2:57 is my favorite

  • ok

1 how did the guy that wrote this not see logic &

2 how did a full length movie get summarized in 4 minuets

  • they missed the page where max takes shrooms.

  • lmao

  • NICE

  • OMGSH! i really enjoy how it has the music in the back. All the sounds on this video fit perfectly, i think.

  • the leader in the movie is TONY SAPRANOS voice. classic a mafioso monster. max better watch him self or he'll get wacked and burried on tonies uncles farm or dumped in the sea or yet, poured in concrete.

  • This book was the shit back when I was a little guy. The artwork really made it what it was. I'm goin to see the movie tonight.. Hope it doesn't ruin it

  • out of curiosity, what did you think of the movie? i've heard good and bad..

  • It's a good movie. It's well made and has a great soundtrack. However, it doesn't actually capture the feelings you get from the book. The book explores being a kid and being wild and having an imagination. the movie is more about being a kid and dealing with childhood issues. I wasn't actually too happy with the writing in the film

  • A reading done with just the right character. This is great.

  • The book is amazing! A classic!

  • I read this book so many times as a child. The movie better than the book...??? I think not! You can tell which generation is which.

  • The movie really hits home though, i thought it was done very well

  • i never liked max....brat...

  • FUCK'N SLAYER!!!!!!

  • are you stupid? this the the original version, the picture book from decades ago -.- btw its retarDed
