I've beaten HL2 many times and the addition of achievements just gives me one more reason to play it again and it actually gives me a new objective. I don't see the probelm with them.

While a company COULD give a game more levels to make it longer, or make it enough fun to warrant multiple playthroughs by itself, it's easier and cheaper to just throw achievements in and use that as a reason to encourage more playthroughs. It's a cheap way to increase the life span of a game, and way too many publishers half ass a game, make it only 4 hours long, and use achievements in lieu of more content.

Freeman may not just be his name but a title; he's a "free man" somehow able to defy the machinations of time/space. Crossing between dimensions, and with a lapse between games, he may have entered a higher state of existence then returned. The vortigaunt says it sees throughout time and Freeman was with its' kind for a while.

Perhaps all vortigaunts are like that. Or maybe the G-man and these vortigaunts have ascended as Gordon will.
