I can tell her voice was giving her problems here...she cuts all the notes short, and takes them all down, instead of her usual "up" belting. Smart singing, although, it was way too choppy for me. I miss my old Whitney and love when she belted this song live!!!

Trust, I love & respect Whitney, so, no hate. But, I know what my ear hears...

Whitney wins in every aspectl, coz she's just BIGGER and BETTER!! Even in the Oprah performance, though Mariah did good too, but she just couldn't match upto Whitney's level. And it's ok, I have no complaints from her, it's great she even got the chance to sing with a legend like Whitney!! ;)

Listen, unfortunately I have to agree with most of the comments here, Gianni Morandi was not in his finest form here which is sad because if anyone actually listens to his early songs when he started his voice and singing range could not be matched. I guess this it's a true test of old age kicking in, I'm still glad Gianni is performing these days though, it's great to still have a legend like him around.
Lol, Whitney is a lot taller than him (of course with heels but every female celeb wears them), her voice here is unmatchable (though it doesn't have breathtaking falsetto like the 80s anymore) compare to another performance that she did after 1999.

Whitney's voice was still great up until the late 90's. Take this performance for instance. The bass and power of Whitney's voice was too tough for even a baritone male singer to handle. And she was taking it easy on him. WOW!

Hearing her sing this song 15 years after she first released it - and in the original key no less - almost sounds as though time stood still. Lol, Whitney is a lot taller than him (of course with heels but every female celeb wears them), her voice here is unmatchable (though it doesn't have breathtaking falsetto like the 80s anymore) compare to another performance that she did after 1999.

way past her prime here .she couldn't sustain anymore - her bell like tone was gone - and the she tended now to speak some of the notes. You notice the abundance of runs there It's a way of compensating for the inability to hold a phrase or sing and sustain each note [usualy those notes at the top end of the voice] But enjoy her memory

I agree..her voice changed here..but it's because she got older! I know exactly what you mean! I love both too..it's normal her voice changed over the years and believe me..she still was the voice here! Now..she needs to recover but she will get there!

Whitney's voice was still great up until the late 90's. Take this performance for instance. The bass and power of Whitney's voice was too tough for even a baritone male singer to handle. And she was taking it easy on him. WOW!

Hearing her sing this song 15 years after she first released it - and in the original key no less - almost sounds as though time stood still. I don't love all her ad libs here but the power in her voice is undeniable and so beautiful to hear. Oh yes, and the host added a cute dynamic to the performance.

and i also admire his humility...he perfectly knows he's not good like her...it seems like he's thinking: "well...i have to sing it because it's written on the script, but i'm just covering the beautiful sound of her voice!"
