  • 03:03 > 03:20 sounds like Conan Soundtrack!

  • 03:04 > 03:22 sounds like conan soundtrack!

  • I'm addicted to Alien and Aliens soundtracks.

  • The most charming theme - Gremlins

    Alien soundtrack - pure gold

  • Basic instinct is the best !

  • have to admit, Jerry has a really good resume...

    great, just great

  • @Eaze2009 oh gremlins is my favorite

  • Chinatown, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, First Blood and Total Recall: pure fucking epicness.

  • what about memphis belle and air force one??

  • Gremlins!!! I absolutely love that score!

  • Good choices, but no Blue Max, no Great Train Robbery, no Shadow? No Wind and the Lion? I mean really, no Wind and the Lion???

  • Jerry Goldsmith is not the main reason I love listening to soundtrack,

he is the greatest reason I love watching those movies have his music.

  • Could you do a greatest hits for Akira Ifukube?

  • poltergeist it's the best movie that i never seen before

  • "Alien" theme is the BEST

  • Check out my rendition of Mummy End Credits!

  • My second favorite next to Williams

  • Jerry Goldsmith is the greatest film composer of all time. When you look at all the films he scored and listen to the original theme for each film, the music is amazing.

  • Chinatown & The Mummy are my favourites

  • Chinatown FTW!

  • RIP

Jerry Goldsmith, one of the greatest composers ever!

  • In my opinion The Omen is his best soundtrack for which he won his only Academy Award. Terrifying and beautiful at the same time. It takes alot of skill to do that.

  • @Winduct I have to disagree. Star Trek the Motion Picture is a genuis score, that should have gotten an AA.

  • @SideSwipeGTA Many of his scores should have won Best Original Score, not just The Omen and Star Trek the motion picture. I didn't say only The Omen deserved it.

  • @Winduct I didn't say you did say that. All I am saying is I disagree that The Omen was his best score.

  • @Winduct Not his best, but close

  • Total Recall is the best!!

  • I like how he uses brass.

  • One word...GREMLINS!!!!!

  • Great selection. thank you

  • his music for supergirl really elevated it, considering the film itself was less than impressive

  • You forgot the Greatest one of all "The Flim Flam Man"

  • Goldsmith's "Star Trek" scores are just fantastic. Thanks for putting this video together!

  • 6 people are hearing impaired

  • Gerry has a talent for painting a picture with an orchestra that meshes perfectly with what is onscreen. Now there are many composers that can do this but Gerry's genius is that he can do so in such a way that the score makes sense even in isolation.

He's up there with orchestral composers such as Bach, Beethoven and Mozart in my book.

  • @sgtgrash My thoughts exactly.

  • his name is realy his title the gold smith ...

  • I love the Chinatown one, it was just perfect for the film

  • Lovely selection from the master. The films Jerry worked on were elevated to a whole new level, thanks to his great talent. Where is the film composer today who could come close to this artistry?

  • WE'LL HAVE TO WAIT 50 MORE YEARS FOR SOMEONE LIKE YOU JERRY... GOD BLESS YOU WHEREVER YOU ARE!!!

  • @Deathlimbo87 ennio is great too but i didn't appreciate him until later. i'm just saying goldsmith was probably the main reason i even pay attention to film music. i discovered guys like ennio and lalo schifrin after goldsmith had already opened that door to me. don't get me wrong, morricone is a true innovator.

  • Oh, so there WAS a Supergirl movie?

And he did the ORIGINAL Planet of the Apes, too?

    And, wow, Gremlins.

  • Wow!! Fantastic music.

  • I think one of his bests are in California Adventure's Soarin' Over California

  • Does the Total Recall score sound similar to Conan The Barbarian by Basil Poulidouris?

  • jerry goldsmith, john barry, john williams; the three reasons i love film scores

  • @TheLyedecker dont forger ennio morricone

  • @TheLyedecker AND,,, DANNY ELFMAN

  • @TheLyedecker What about Hans Zimmer!?

  • @loganisjustaperson i like alan silvestri as well as the ones you 2 have listed

  • @TheLyedecker Dude? Hans Zimmer number ONE !!!!!!

  • Ci sono dei compositori di colonne sonore ai massimi livelli, ma con Jerry Goldsmith non c'è storia lui E' LA COLONNA SONORA.

Grazie Jerry per le centinaia di ore di splendida Musica.

  • CORPUS EDIMUS!!, WOW AVE SATANI IS FANTASTIC

  • A great musician

  • You only forgot Rudy

    The Edge

  • Thanks for the video! Very good!

  • 5:46 Oh hell yes. There's the iconic theme that I came for!

  • great stuff, while music doesn't make a movie great a good score with a good movie can really put a movie over the top and Mr Goldsmith proved that over the years many times.

  • Bernard Herrmann was one of the famous film composers in cinema history. The screeching violins in psycho was a masterpiece.

  • wow, the total recall clip sounds a LOT like the opening to Poledouris' magnum opus Conan the Barbarian.

  • @disguy67 screw you!! Without all of this advertisement and vevo we'd be having to pay 5 dollars a month. Speak for yourself you fruit face.

  • I dare anyone to say anything bad about Jews like Jerry Goldsmith RIP

    Your Catholic friend.

  • @NewZealandAri why do you feel the need to say that. Nobody has said anything bad. Also I see all accomplishments as individual triumphs not triumphs for an entire group. Your Diest friend:-)

  • This is a great collection---but Papillion was left out---one of his finest works....you can't get em all I guess......

  • he got the feelings. every movie got different feelings. he got that to make the great music piece :)

  • The man did make some great OST. I love how his music changes from film to film. nothing sounding alike thats what made him great. Also Star Trek Voyager Theme was awesome too.

  • Comment removed

  • Along with Bernard Herrmann and Ennio Morricone, the greatest three film composers. His range was astounding, from the experimental "Planet of the Apes" to the fanfare from "Star Trek Voyager" to the low-key "Hombre", an endless list.

  • Goldsmith was a scoring powerhouse, this just skims the surface on his MASSIVE body of work

  • WTF? WHere is 13th warrior!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Check out my rendition of the Mummy End Credits theme!

  • you should have included also the soundtrack from Secret of N.I.M.H.!!

  • This is becoming really rare.

  • Helluva compilation. Goldsmith was a musical chameleon, never allowing his own ego to get in the way of the cinematic art he was supporting.

But he was a chameleon who could go from plaid to paisley to polka dots without hesitation or error. Nobody has yet equaled him in range and striking power.

  • Jesus, such a compilation ! Wonderful !

  • I fell in love with the Mulan soundtrack ^^

  • Where's the Burbs? lol

    good video!

  • 3:04-3:26 i've always thought that part sounded awefully similar to Conan the Barbarian by Basil Boledouris

  • i see the POWER of the MUSIC, and how it able to be beyond our imagination...

  • THE OMEN !!!!!!!!!!!

  • i was not impressed by all of these but jerry gold smith does not make much good music any way the only really good song he has ever done in mulan short hair but sry jerry goldsmith but hanns zimmer is way better hate to brak it to you but its true hanns zimmer is way better then jerry gold smith

  • @Wizard101Rocks987,

Hans Zimmer sucks. I hate him. However, it is your opinion.

  • @thelupoistheman1

Hans Zimmer is the king of GENERIC scores, nobody will remember in a few years after the novelty value of the blockbuster movies he scored, has worn off.

There's no finesse or variety to Zimmer's scores. They are the epitome of bland.

  • @McLarenMercedes,

I'm not sayng they're bland. Alot of them are actually great. I'm just saying he is highly overused and overrated.

  • @McLarenMercedes

Well...there is the Lion King. That is not generic.

  • @McLarenMercedes

Well, apparently Zimmer can't read music or so I've read somewhere, so if thats the case then hes not done too bad.

He has absolutely no melodic content though and is very limited compared to the REAL big boys like Goldsmith,Williams,Sylvestri et al.

  • @Wizard101Rocks987

What does a 14 year old know about what's good music anyway??

Or are you just the kind of troll that intentionally poses as some idiot to annoy as much people as possible?

Jerry Goldsmith has 17 Oscar nominations, and a ton of other awards. Great directors believe he is one of the all time greats.

  • @Wizard101Rocks987 This is so untrue. And Zimmer will be the first to tell you that honestly.

  • @Wizard101Rocks987 Hans Zimmer is not very original and his scores sounds all the same and repetitive. Jerry Goldsmith's scores are so unique, so exciting and so different that he truly was a musical chameleon. And you cannot judge the man's greatness just from this meager compilation. Jerry Goldsmith has more than 50 years and more than 200 film and television credits in his name. He's got more beautiful and awesome scores out there.

  • TOTAL RECALL TOTALL BADASS THEME!!

  • I like some of it but it all sounds a bit the same to me

  • Jerry Goldsmith fascinating music.

  • i got poltergeist CD

  • i love gremlins theme

  • love the total recall theme

  • rambo theme so rules

  • goldsmith's music was so different for every film. amazing and always fresh. alfred newman, john williams, stiener, rozsa, and alex north had a style that was a recognizable signature for each composer. but goldsmith's music sounded like he was a different composer for each film. my favorites: PATTON, FIRST KNIGHT. the expanded score for POLTERGIET is breathtaking.

  • Goldsmith has so many good scores, it's hard to narrow it down. Breaking it down by category... Fantasy: "Legend" "The Secret of NIMH" (this score was performed with no electronics) "Supergirl" Sci-Fi: "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" "Total Recall" (one of Goldsmith's personal favorites) "Logan's Run" Comedy: "The 'Burbs" "Innerspace" Ugh. I just can't select, there were too many from Goldsmith that were great to me. Even scores like "Runaway" were awesome.
  • Mr.Baseball... Joke. No, my favorite is Planet of the Apes ('68), for which he was nominated for an Oscar. The Oscar winner was The Omen. Papillon not included?

Battlestar Galactica!? Wasn't it Stu Phillips?

  • @Eklektik40

"Battlestar Galactica!? Wasn't it Stu Phillips?"

    Correct.

  • Is it just me or does the first 20-30 secs of Total Recall sound like Poledouris's Conan soundtrack?

  • By far the best movie composer in "my own" opinion. The older epic soundtracks are my favorite. Sand Pebbles, Blue Max, Tora Tora Tora and so on.....

  • The way I see it, if you make a list of the 3 best movie scorers of all time you just have to include Jerry Goldsmith. The amount of quality work is unsurpassed.

    Where's the music from "Masada"?

  • Basic Instinct owns all of those.

  • Where is Air Force One?

  • One of the best composers!! :D

  • Total Recall will always stand out as one of the great film scores, for me anyway...

  • damn this guy is a legend!

  • great

  • Ok...great list, no question about that! But you forgot Explorers and Secret of Nimh.

  • It's a pity that films don't have overtures anymore, like in "Star Trek: The Motion Picture." It's not the main theme I'm talking about, but the very beginning of the film, before the opening credits, where all you see is travel between the stars and all you hear is Jerry Goldsmith's music.

  • I couldn't get over the idea of Al Pacino playing the part of John Rambo. It's my guess it would've been a one time only role considering that in the book, (which I never read) he dies. It's like when Cary Grant had the shot of playing 007. Ithink I'd go mad thinking about such things. Great music, by the way.

  • The Great Jerry Goldsmith!!

  • LOVE THE MULAN SOUNDTRACK!

  • It's hard to make a greatest hits compilation from a composer who probably have more recorded music time than most of us have lived...

I missed a lot of films here and I'm sure many others do too, but these are wonderful none the less.

  • I love Mulan OST :))

  • you missed Papillon!

  • The First Blood soundtrack still gives me goosebumps.

    Awesomeness......

  • why is the one for Rudy not on there? i NEED to know what that peice of music is called

  • Where the fuck is conan the Barbarian on this?!!??!?!

  • @Nitronick Perhaps because Conan was scored by Basil Poledouris, not Jerry Goldsmith!

  • did i miss Rudy or something? that was one of his best scores ever

  • WTF is king solomons mines a rip off of indiana jones? or wat

  • @Poops4all yah the only thing that made that movie good was the soundtrack ironically. lol

  • @Poops4all The movie was intended to cash in on the Indy phenomenon... as usual, Williams for Indy - Goldsmith got King Solomon's Mines... Williams got Superman, Goldsmith got Supergirl. Story of his life... Impeccable score though. :)

  • @speedporn Richard Donner almost went with Jerry for Superman, but a scheduling conflict prevented it from happening. I think it may have sounded more like Supergirl had he gone and done it. Still, I can't picture anyone but John Williams doing the music for the Superman movies. Both are legends!!

  • A classic! God Bless! Thanks for sharing!!!

  • Chinatown being my favourite! wat an amazing sound

  • holy crap, Mulan!....HOLY SHIT, GREMLINS!!!!

  • The Fantastic Four! John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, Ennio Morricone and who's the other one?

  • @SmokeROS Elmer Bernstein!!!

  • you forgot to include the "papillon" theme

  • Some people like to compare John Williams with Jerry Goldsmith- I like them both, I don't feel the need to choose. I will say that this compilation really shows Goldsmith's range, while Williams was stuck with the 'grand orchestral' music of the late 70s and 80s. Not his fault, that's what was called for and the movies he scored wouldn't be the same without him. But the last 15-20 years, he has 'stretched his legs' and done some different stuff.

  • @TheGoldcountry. I agree. Instead of comparing Goldsmith and Williams, we should be grateful that we had both (and several other great composers during the same period). I do think that Williams became a victim of his own success and was expected to keep writing in a similar style. Even Goldsmith's versitility couldn't prevent him from scoring so many thrillers, SF and action films during the 1980's. Like Bernstein, he had to seek out quirky films to prevent complete typecasting.

  • I was really crying when I found out he died...

  • NO RUDY?

damn it, that's my favourite by him.

  • @stcolreplover He did a lot more too- "QB VIII" is a good one, and my all time favorite, the original score to "Battlestar Galactica"

  • @stcolreplover hell yeah....wheres rudy at???

  • @stcolreplover yeah Rudy is by far his greatest. So epic

  • Is it possible for someone to tell me what movie each score is from? I can recognize most of em' but not all of them...

  • Another labor of love...Great video tribute to Jerry Goldsmith. Thanks a lot benydebney.

  • Nobody seems to remember the beautiful waltz Goldsmith wrote as the opening music to "The Boys From Brazil". It's hard to find on you tube.

  • omfg Alien!!!!

  • He has to ability to turn crap into gold simply by adding his soundtrack.

Truly one of the best of his generation, and its a god damn tragedy that hes gone.

  • @Lentrick totally agree with you :(

  • 1.Jerry

    2.Hans

    3.John

    4.Bill

    5.James

  • @revengeofbutthead I agree with your list, but John Barry was good too- not to mention the older guys like Bernard Herrmann

  • @revengeofbutthead Bill Conti?

  • I can listen to Jerry's albums 27 hours a day for seven days a week. And so for my whole life... It is timeless music.

  • Basic Instinct is good

  • perhaps you must hate John Williams, but for the way you edited this or Morricone´s work and other they sounds better. Or may be i m ust acept Goldsmith have more fanfarre and pompous themes! (?)

  • oohh gremlins i just love that movie, gizmo is so cute hihi

  • Jerry Goldsmith was so awesome. Every movie he did was epicly amazing.

  • wonderful. thank you. your compilations are a wonder to listen to.

  • this music is wonderous and has many scopes in movies. i just like his music thanks!!

  • You should have used the Universal Logo in the intro the way you used Twentieth Century Fox Fanfare for the "Alfred Newman - Greatest Hits" or the Warner Bros. Fanfare that you used in the intro for "Max Steiner - Greatest Hits". Jerry Goldsmith's Universal Logo is one of my favorite fanfares ever.

  • @avatarnarutochuck he did the modern one for Lost world -97 right?

  • @BRm2008 Yes, he composed that fanfare which was first used for The Lost World - Jurassic Park.

  • I think its worth nothing that the music here is actually from Gremlins 2.

The first Gremlins had the main theme, but had a shrill, almost electronic sound to it.

Gremlins 2 took the basic theme, but gave it a big band swing sound with a lot more emphasis on brass and drums.

A major improvement if I do day so myself.

  • Total Recall theme = Conan the Barbarian ripoff

  • You forgot The Secret of NIHM!

  • @TheWarlord900 that's even 1 of his best !!!

  • BTW "Rambo" theme is my favorite but where is his compositions from " the ghost and the darkness ???

  • Would say either he or Horner is the # 1 modern classical composer in my opinion, I mean the man's a true legend.

  • @loganachilles1982

please, James Horner copies his own scores from his old movies. in his scores you can hear cues from his former ones. not saying that other composers don't have it but in his it is pretty obvious even to the average movie audience

scoring blockbusters doesn't equal quality automatically

  • rambo ,rambo2, and rambo 3 =trully breathtaking action scores....RIP JERRY

  • No Russia House left me with a chill. I heard it said that after listening to your choices, Jerry is considering rising from his grave to add it.

  • I mess you so much Jerry. Without you the music is not the same!!

  • where's air force one?

  • No Sand Pebbles? No In Harm's Way? Still, a good sampling of Jerry's great orchestrations and mood development......he experimented, quite successfully, with instruments that were not the status quo, and had cultural sensitivity that went beyond other composers. He is a role model for many contemporaries and those to come.

  • In my opinion, the music opening "The Boys From Brazil" is as good as some great classical music I've heard.

  • I realise you can't include all Jerry Goldsmith's movies, but you have left out my top 2: The Sand Pebbles (1966), The Russia House (1990)!!

  • music was always smooth melodic, dramatic, sumptuous, exciting, innovative. what a talent. miss him!
