  • There's no way he can actually hear that single wedge monitor with the volume of the guitar. Then again, it's hardly surprising that a terrible daytime TV show doesn't have PA equipment to keep up with a 120 dB band.

  • I've seen Dino J a couple times, it's alway soooo fuking loud! First time I was up front stage left right by the massive house amplifiers, five songs in I had to move cause J's guitar was so loud it was making me dizzy! My eyes were vibrating, it was absolutely amazing!

  • Thank you!

  • WTF? I actually signed up for a youtube account to write this. What is one of the best bands, and guitar player of all time playing on Jenny Jones? I actually had to be in school at this time in the 90's. Now his hair is down to his belly, and pure silver. God, have the times changed,. They've opened up for Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, I've seen'm 3 times,. quite under-rated.

  • I remember seeing them do 'Outta There' on Letterman when 'where you been' came out. They had enormous silver chimes onstage that Paul Schaffer was playing. Anybody remember this? Doesn't seem to be on YouTube

  • Awesome shit... Appreciated and well received; but, can someone please upload one of J's most amazing feats: "Over Your Shoulder"!!! PLEASE?? Over Your Shoulder, NOW!!! Thank You...

  • Not only does Jenny call the song "Outta There", they show the wrong album cover also. Well done!

  • I wonder if all those stacks are on. Blew some hats off in the audience.

  • 0:11

Jenny says the song is "out of there".......way to go Jenny!! lol!

She also likes "The Grand Funks" and "The Chicagos"

  • All the late night shows were booked that week, I take it.

  • I remember seeing this episode. The weirdest part was afterward when it was revealed having Dino perform was all just a ruse to lure Mascis to Jenny's studio for an awkward confrontation with Lou Barlow and then all hell broke loose during an ambush paternity test with a groupie they both dated.

  • What date in 1997 are you talking about? Was it on Tuesday, December 2nd?

  • What date in 1997 are you talking about?

  • lmfao this bands only followers are burn out highschool dropouts that wanted to make it in music. The singer sounds like he has cotton in his mouth. Haha

  • @MegaHegira I like how you're a grammar Nazi, but you put "bands" instead of "band's". Life's complicated growing up.

  • Comment removed

  • @MegaHegira "Bands" is the plural form of "band" as in multiple; in this case "band's" is possessive. We're not talking it's (contraction for it is) and its (possessive) . Try to insult me more, I find it hilarious. You even took the time to get information on my profile to insult me, how cute. Also, if you couldn't tell I was being facetious with "life's complicated", then you need to read more books than I do.

  • @capraincrunch Goread a book. You have too much time on your hands to be sending me this crap and guess what? You sent it on Halloween which equates to you stayed home on Halloween & played on youtube....:Hahah so sad....) Sorry for you....

  • 2:38 I don't know what that was, but it sounded fucking cool.

I love it when J adds those awesome fucking noises to his solos. It's kind of his signature I guess, besides screaming wah pedals and Big Muffs.

  • dude, i just happened to see this episode when i was *ahem* unemployed, and was like, jeez is dino jr seriously on jenny jones?! amazed....long time fan, always will be.

  • Godawful vocals, and badly-timed guitar licks at the intro. Their studio version = kickass.

  • Saw them live at the koko. J turned up the amps. Fucking loud but one of the all time best live performances.

  • I want a jacket like J's.

  • comunque out there rimane una canzone enorme.

  • atroce. ATROCE. Il periodo veramente bruttissimo dei dinosaur jr. neanche le canzoni belle gli veniva più bene. sentire questa versione di out there mi spezza il cuore. C'è voluto il ritorno di Lou per fargli tornare un po di senso.

  • What were they thinking?

    Great song though, love it.

  • Oh wow this was in November of 97, about a month before the broke up. luckily they are back together with the original lineup. I've seen the renunion band and they are still amazing. If you can see this band live, DO IT!

  • They each pocketed 200 dollers for doin this crappy show!!!!!! So whats everyone gotta say about that???? (btw that would be 350 in todays economy)!!!!! Rock on!

  • More like $400 and a new car. I had almost forgotten Jenny Jones. Didn't she have leaky tits?

  • Crappy show --- you better believe it.. Great band ... definitely .. how the hell did they wind up on this flippin' show???? Thanks for posting robot.

  • lol they don't fit on this show at all!

  • what scales does j mainly use? Em pentatonic??

  • I've wondered that myself....hmm...

  • Depends on the song. he uses Em pentonic for Alone. but also uses major scales a lot

  • J. doesn't know the scales, he's never bothered to learn em.

  • fuck yeah who needs em..

  • hilarious and awesome

  • i love this i can't believe they were on this show ha ha ha i love j. i want to be j.

  • I love Dinosaur Jr. I recently had the privilege of seeing them (original line-up: J, Lou, Murph) live and my mind was completely blown, my ears ringing for days afterward. Fantastic. However... this performance is horrendous.

  • j mascis is a really emotional guitarist

  • dinosaur jr are amazing

j mascis is a big inspiration on me

  • jenny jones is not.

  • where is jenny jones now?

  • i love dino jr and this very well might be my fav album EVER of any band but if i was 50 yrs old and not a fan and had never heard the album version id think this was the worst song and band in the history of music

  • well, the crowd of mostly 50yrs old fogies certainly we're clapping along in either appreciation or amusement. at least j can play an instrument. most of these emo jackoffs can't even do that. as long as people think you're trying, as j appears to do, then that is good enough for most people who are already stuck there to watch white trash skanks drag each other across the stage by their hair plugs

  • J Mascis is a god.

  • she fucking said "out of there." what a retard.

  • yeah and the albumn they showed was without a sound not where you been like she said. then they have the gall to cut of the solo. LAAAAAME!

  • actually the album they showed was Hand it over but you get my point.

  • Great song & band!! It's just sad and funny at the same time they have to play it on a show like this :)

  • Oh man, this is such a great song but I really wish J Mascis could sing live, even a little bit.

  • awesome! i love the audience clapping along

  • That riff is timeless! They just fucking rock out!!

  • shit that they cut it off, mascis burns!

  • Is that a Jaguar or a Jazzmaster he is playing?

  • Fender Jazzmaster.

  • How the heck did they end up playing on this show? So random.

  • jj was big into cbgbs in the 70s and stuff

  • This Mascis is fuckin' amazing. He's like bones in flaming heavens...

  • Damn, j's solos are fucking awesome here, his voice was a little shot but still an awesome performance. I'm thinking about covering this one myself.

  • i'm pretty sure they showed Hand it Over because that's the cd they'd just released and they were trying to promote it

  • they should have had lou barlow waiting backstage for a classic jenny jones "confrontation"

  • also, that's not the cover for "where you been", is it?

  • would've been the best tv moment ever, better even then Lee Harvey Oswald getting shot or the moon landing

  • I am 9. I want Dinosaur.

  • the person two slots below me is retarded beyond belief

  • At the start of the the clip there is some footage from the first Dino performance on this show, "Never Bought It", where J used his blue sparkly Fender Esquire, that's what nicolasdelcastillo meant

  • thats a jazzmaster,not a tele.

  • first time i see j with a tele

  • yes, you were called retarded and corrected twice directly above but...

i must get my .02 in

dont talk guitar if you dont play, thats about as far as you can get from a tele while staying in the fender family.

  • at the start of the video while it is still forwarding untill "out there" you can clearly see j with a tele for a sec. THAT i meant

  • You pretentious guitar nuts are silly. Ive got a schecter ultra 3, it kicks the shit out of any fender i ever owned.

  • LOL

  • Beautiful.

  • oh jenny jones and her house bands

  • Well, he does sound different live, but you still have to give him credit

for giving it his best, I mean he still did a really good performance here.

People that complain about his vocals being weak and stuff... come on! Give the

dude a break... he still makes good music, and still has a great voice.

check out the video "Out There" not the live one... it's a lot slower paced

    than this one.

  • the vocals are weak and stuff because he is not in his 20s anymore...

  • yea dude these vocals arent the best, in the other recording of the same [performance they did awesome though. weird. I saw them about a year ago and the guitar drowned J out, mine as well if his voice has gone that far downhill, but he was never all that good a singer anyways.

  • ya j sounds like shit. people in the audience were laughing at him i think. i love dino though. jenny jones was a drummer in a "punk" band fyi. thats why she had a lot of bands on her show i think. she liked to help out musicians.

  • i love J, but these vocals are weak

  • Turd ass monkey bitches... tha's the wild chicken choker neck rippin'

  • FUCK. ME

  • This is beyond belief!

  • im glad people compared these to nirvana i would never have found out about them if they hadnt. these guys rock! the bass is a bit quite in this vid mind.

  • I remember when this showed up on the tele, just happened to have Jenny Jones on. When she said Dinosaur were playing I was like "WTF?" Trully, trully strange booking. Andrew%#$^$%&#*#%^*#!

  • That's pretty much my thinking - I have these images of her booking staff being all -

"I hear the kids are into this 'grungy' thing....

Whatever - it's awesome to see!

  • don't compare dinosaur with nirvana, nirvana is crap, dinosaur jr makes music to affect you, not to sell

  • Actually, this album came out in '93. It was before Nevermind.

  • nevermind came out in 91

  • So right...I mixed up Nevermind with Definitely Maybe ...which came out in 94'.

  • Emo sucks. What does that have to do with this? It was what? 1994? 1995? It was the post-Nirvana "let's jump on the bandwagon and call ourselves grunge" album.

  • Dinosaur Jr. sounds nothing like Nirvana. J's vocals in now way shape or form resembles Kurt's and Dinosaur uses several intricate solo's and rarely use powerchords, completelly different from Nirvana. If Dinosaur being a Nirvana wanna-be just because they're the same genre then I guess every major rock bands are Beattle and Elvis wanna-be's? Secondly, Dinosaur Jr. was around WAY before Nirvana. They released their first EP in 1985.

  • Right. This was the surreal post-nirvana explosion period when all the left of the dial undergound mainstays got major label record deals. The buttholesurfers even got signed. I was using DJ's appearance on a daytime talk show to date the clip as pre-emo.

  • OOOOH!! Okay I see what you're saying, You were more or less referencing that Jenny threw them into her show just so she could be "hip" or whatever. And that's right, alot of big wig's and TV personality did exploit the crap out of the movement, which was one of the leading factors in Grunge dying out because none of them REALLY wanted to be in the spotlight, so they reverted back to the underground. Grunge didn't die, it's just where it should be..the underground. :)

  • Not to mention Dinosaur Jr influenced Cobain and Nirvana. J was even asked to be drummer but had Dino commitments.

  • Where ya' been is an ass kicker!!!

  • Cool Vid. It's a Jazzmaster dude. 25.5 scale not 24. Anyway easy mistake. JM plays Jags too.... Rock on!

  • i fucking love fender jaguars i want one so bad.

  • This is so great. Was Jenny Jones the coolest bitch on the planet? Perhaps executive decisions were out of Jenny's hands at this point. Reminds me of Larry Sanders Show episodes when the network goads him to hip things up a bit. Either way its one of the best anomolies in pop culture history. Props to Dinosaur for recognizing a brilliant idea when it comes along!

  • what the hell is wrong with j's voice?

  • fuck you emosk8, you obviously dont know ANYTHING at all about music- go back to you're fuckin hawthorne heights and you're fuckin fall out boy. this performance rocks, Dinosaur Jr. is amazing

  • lol outta there

  • Totally radical- Dinosaur on JJ? Who the fuck thought this was emo and what cave have they been living in?

  • never seen this, awesome!

  • I'd so do Mascis

  • emosk8, seriously. Learn your music!

  • Murph kicks ass

  • emosk8 I dont even have to insult you. Emo is quite possibly the worst music ever made. Im glad you don't like this band.

  • I wonder if even one person,in the Audience even knew, who dinosaur jr is???LOL

  • Give Jenny props for taking risks.

  • haha, CLASSIC

  • i saw three 6 mafia on there one time.

  • >>crappy Jenny Jones Show

crappy or not, she surely had the best bands on the show than any other show has ever had...

  • this OWNS.

  • they suck ass

  • youre a dickface who probably thinks sum41 is alternative rock

  • emo sucks ass lol

  • i love how everyones clapping.

  • the drummer looks like Kevin Sheilds

  • jenny calls it "outta there"...oh well. this is kinda like pearl jam performing on AOL sessions....ironic

  • and it's not off hand it over

  • Yeah, this song is not off of "Hand it Over". I saw this when it originally aired. They were on tour for Hand It Over at the time. The first song they played on this Jenny Jones show was off of that album. They did a fantastic performance of the song "Never Bought It". I have it recorded on vhs somewhere in a box.

  • Dinosaur Jr. On Jenny Jones, how fucking degrading.

  • You can barely see George behind J's Marshall stacks.

  • WTF Dinosaur Jr....on...jenny jones?? crazy shit

  • haha, listen to the way j sings

  • All of the Dinosaur TV Performances are weird, but kindof amazing.

  • I don't understand. Is this supposed to be irony? If it is I don't get it and it's not funny.

  • Saw them in the reunion tour when they came to covington they were badass

  • Weird...

  • "performing their song 'outta there'"

clearly jenny jones is a huge fan

  • hahaa, i thought i was the only one who noticed that
