  • I start the 10 month program on Monday as I have no high school diploma nor am I currently employed so I hope this is either a shortcut or profitable venture. Witch eventually I will get the GED and further go into the medical field such as LVN or RN.. Plus CCI is giving free IPad 2's for enrolling :)

  • To be honest, the reason you MAs can't find work is because of X-Ray Technicians like myself who have medical assisting training. I took 7 weeks of Back Office training and got venipuncture certified, injection certified, and I was trained in everything that an MA does, without taking the 11 month course. The reason I would get hired on ahead of any of you, is because I have the knowledge and expertise in X-Ray. So basically at my job right now about 80% of my time is doing MA work.

  • thank you people complain to damn much about not finding a job just be good at what you do and the rest will follow

  • People that complain about not finding a job, just really sucks at there job, because I found a job the day after my Externship ended at my site. Quit complaining!

  • .... Stay in Malaysia...

  • hello im from malaysia im working as MA since age 22 years old..now im 27 yrs old, but im still confuse..because we MA"s in malaysian do same job as physician assistant..then i would like to know how's MA'a from other country doing their job? is it same as PA or else....tq

  • I am tired of people whining about these med programs I went and work 2 weeks after I left what is your problem??? i also know 3 other people who are working go to the job placement and have them help....

  • I had a lot of fun in MA school learning everything I learned, but honestly ppl are better off going to LVN school...its cheaper too!! The price of the MA school is bull shit!

  • very good way to start in the medical field i know the economy isnt so good but it takes patience i finished my schooling last year in may and it took 6 months for me to get a job and now i do health screening for 3 hospitals the world needs more medical assistants :) good luck on the people who are starting or are in school :P

  • Sad to say I never found a job in this field. The schools are usually expensive. I obtained an A average and was very hopeful. Never found a job.

  • Does your school offer job placement after graduation? Im surprised that you havent found work yet. Our placement team here at Unitek College does a great job placing our graduates. Keep up your spirits, Im sure you will find something soon.

  • Good job if you like to work with people. I did it for 14 years, but it burned me out. Time for a change of careers.

  • @LGLG69 You were a medical assistant for 14 years?

  • @11ebuTuoY11 Yes, I was. Are you considering a career as an medical assistant?

  • @LGLG69 Yeah, well actually I'm enrolled in Medical Specialties and I have a couple of options with that. Medical assistant is one of them but many people say that it's not a very good career. I just wanted to know your opinion. Is it a good career? For an AOS degree do they pay enough? I'm in California by the way.

  • @11ebuTuoY11 Oh, I live in California, too. It does make a solid career. My wife has been a medical assistant for 11 years, and she loves her job. As I said before, I was an m.a. for 14 years. I still work in healthcare for Kaiser Permanente, just not doing patient care. The starting pay at Kaiser is $20-$21 per hour. There are so many areas you can work in, such as: medicine, urgent care, pediatrics, surgery, dermatology, administration, etc. It will be a good investment in your future.

  • @LGLG69 Kaiser Permanente, $20-$21 I will definitely keep that in mind. I just need to find a clinic/hospital to do my externship and I'm good to go! Thanks for the info!

  • I Graduated From A Clinical Medical Asistant Program Back In December and Still Looking For A Job.

  • rather be a nurse (RN)

  • im signing up for this tomorrow lol.

hope i can keep up with everything =]

  • @TPCrisis Dont be discouraged, there are plenty of jobs as a Medical Assistant, here at Unitek College we offer job placement for our graduates we also have an MA to LVN Program that allows Medical Assistant graduates to enroll in our LVN programs. Have you ever thought about being an LVN?

  • If you dont know what youre doing, its at least partly your fault. its easy to blame the faculty, but at some point you had to realize you didnt know what the hell you were doing and thats when you should have taken the initiative to ask, get clarification and get the skills. Im guessing this is your only education outside of high school because the EMS students I run into with your attitude have never had to learn anything that wasnt spoon fed to them.

  • Im starting today ...wish me luck you guys.

  • Great to hear! Good luck on starting on a path to an exciting new career. Not that you'll need it.

  • @nahh87 good luck im getting ready to start to.

  • @nahh87 Good luck! I remember when I first started training, I was so nervous now im finally out. Hope you have fun.

  • @nahh87 Hey there! So how is the medical assisting program working out for you? Do you like it? I am thinking of getting into this program.

  • Do they really give you injections while being in school?

  • yep 8 months and 40 hrs of externing, im done in 30 days YAY

  • what classes are required ?

  • i know me too!! imma start school in september! whoo whoo!

  • im in a 8 month course ...then ill be certified

  • is that true?

  • its only gonna take me 4 years

  • the lightning was terribble.

  • How long is the program there?

  • it sounds like she said it was a six month course. Mines is 10 month so that one sounds pretty short.

  • I did it in 4 weeks night classes.

    1 week of internship.

  • quite a short course. Mine took 3 years. Now i'm still studying and will receive my Diploma Of Medical Assistant in DEC 2010. After graduation we will work at gov Hosp and will be known Assistant Medical Officer.

  • Sounds like a physicians assistant? Can you guys prescribe medications?

  • yes Isisbenny404. yes, we can prescribe medications.

  • me being a medical assistant 4 5year no we can not prescribe meds

  • I think the person who said that they can prescribe meds was actually a physicians assistant, and not a medical assistant. I am a medical assistant, and i did an accelerated 3 month class at a local tech school. That person said they had 3-4 years of training so they must be confused.

  • Might me because of the name of "MEDICAL ASSISTANT" use in Malaysia cause the confusion. MEDICAL ASSISTANT in Malaysia may be differ from other country. Our role is as Assistant of Medical Officer. In Malaysia official title of doctor is MEDICAL OFFICER. official name for Medical Assistant in Malaysia is ASSISTANT MEDICAL OFFICER.

  • it only took me 8months and a know PAs give meds

  • i see you was giving wrong information no we can not prescribe meds

  • oh, it might be different in Malaysia. Medical Assistant in Malaysia can prescribe medication. Our role in Malaysia is as an Assistant Medical Officer (Asst of Doctor). In an absence of doctor especially in rural and remote area, we will carried out the doctor's role. That's y we are given 3 years full training and be conferred a Diploma Of Medical Assistant upon graduation. I'm not giving the wrong information. I'm just sharing.

  • well im america a physican assistant not medical assistants can prescribe meds 2 prescribe or ever diagnose a pt you have 2 be licensed nt diploma but a license and have a rx number and also go to medical school for at least 5years our nurses cant even prescribe meds so here have to be a physican or a physican asst

  • ic.. we do have license and it must be renew every year in order to legally perform our duty. we only work with government hospital or clinics and not in a private health institution. of coz, since our knowledge only a diploma level, the case that we couldn't handle or beyond our ability must me referred to the doctor. we are able to prescribe a medicine but only for the 'c' class drug. i'm not sure the drug class is uses worldwide or only in my country. -regards, Arie-

  • @mrsyoungkay3 "so here you have to be a physician or a physician asst"

Not true. As a nurse anesthetist I can....or any my other nurse practitioner colleagues.

  • there's no better profession than taking care of ppl.

  • @CeyennaLuvsMJ yes there is. taking care of animals is better
