  • Hoi

  • the best

  • She's the best!

  • Marlees Veldhuis WR Holder now: 23.25

    She ownes the world!

  • Unfortunately, it's a new short course record.

But still, she's amazing, and I'm confident she wins the Olympic gold medal in Beijing.:)

  • gotta love libbys happy personality!

  • That's short course...

  • @Upquark2 this ain't short course :o

  • @Rac1ng4Live Sorry, I was replying to 41479259. :)

  • Sorry Marleen... you are an awesome swimmer but our "LIBBY" has just broken the world record!!! She is the first women to go sub 24 sec!!! Her time was 23.97. Libby Trickett is now the World Record holder for both the 50m and 100m Freestyle!! Bring on the Olympics!!!

  • LOL .. look at the face of Inge de Bruin at the end when her worldrecord is broken. Marleen only go for the gold!

  • Inge actually said that she hoped Marleen would break her record. I don't know if she really meant it though...

  • i agreee its like shes saying... i didn't mean literally break my world record i was just being nice!

  • Marleen kicks ass!

  • Grazi mille.

  • Nice record Marleen, but I think it's time to divide the current swimrecords with the old ones. The records are tumbling since the new suites. It's like the speedskating records when they introduced the clapskate.

  • Hmm, not really a good comparison. To get an effect as with the clapskate, you'd have to introduce flippers on feet, since that was a completely new way of transferring energy to the ice. These new suits are comparable to eg. slightly different helmets or lighter frames in cycling. Your comment would mean freezing records in any sport rightaway when new models of equipment are introduced, including athletics (new shoe models might lead to faster times) and cycling (as I mentioned)

  • U're right, but those are hell of suits :)

  • Great swim by Marleen! Way to go!

Now she's the definite favorite for the gold in Beijing. There's no American or Australian who can swim 24.0, I'm sure about that. :)

  • You are absolutely right saddq1. An Australian cant swim 24.0sec. But how does an Australian being the first women to swim under 24.0sec sound????? LIBBY TRICKETT 23.97SEC @ 7.45pm 29 March 2008! Who's The favorite now???

  • LOL

Nice swim by Libby. But remember: it's not the Olympics yet, so we'll see who can keep herself together the best. Beijing should be a spectacle to see without a doubt.

  • I think the 50m and 100m final is going to be one of the highlights of the Olympics. I feel in my waters that those Americans will make the finals BUT the NED SWE and AUS will claim the medals and... new world records will be set. All there is now is to figure out who will take the gold. I really want Libby AUS to win but with swimmers like Velduis and Alshammer in the running... you just dont know!
