Killer live version of a ZZTop CLASSIC. "Rio Grande Mud" Baby....!!! Saw this Tour about 6 months earlier in Memphis on American leg of "Deguello" Tour. Killer Show..just as this is. Great to see all that "energy", Willy G. used to "stomp & stalk" that stage. Man, saw 'em on "Fandango" Tour also. A better live band in the 70's I cannot name...as far as 3 men just blowin' the doors out of whatever venue they were playing. They Kicked Major Ass. Still a Great Band, but time waits for no one.
What type of guitar is he using? its awsome...But on a side note if you wanna hear some new music made by a band who put time and emotion in their songs, check our channel, greatly appreciate it if you do
@SundaySlipnSlide That is a custom made Hamilton Strat' Two were made for Billy: One's neck inlay say's "Rev Willy G" for the Reverend Billy Gibbon, The other say's "Stevie Ray Vaughn" was a gift to Stevie by Billy. It can be seen in the SRV video “Couldn't stand the Weather” as well as a “Cold Shot”.
@davcolli Yeah, Willy G. Davidson, one of the most famous guitar players of all time... It is a shared moniker, but in this case, this particular guitar was hand made for Billy Gibbons, AKA the” Rev Willy G” not the leather crafter of the motorcycle fame.
Love this Johnny Kemp song and ZZ top do it right! The guitar that Billy is playing has a head that looks like a Gibson Explorer, but the body is more like a Schecter. I wonder if it isn't a custom guitar from John Bolin of Idaho? He builds great guitars for Billy, Keith Richards and many others.
@TheStustewart that guitar was built by jim hamiltone. you can see that stevie ray vaughan has a guitar like this one with his name on the frettboard witch billy gibbons gave stevie in 1984 just weeks before stevies carnagie hall show. hamiltone guitars are amazing but are it the upper thousands and are very very very very rare guitars!
i saw them at my high school gym for 50 cents before they got famous lol.they opened up for a group from california called chivas head band and blew them away.they had an old cadillac and old u-haul trailor
saw them open for the Stones in Honolulu in 1973..If I recall they may have opened with this song..all I know is that we thought Stevie Wonder was opening as he had been on the mainland leg..and nobody had really heard of these guys yet..maybe a coupl eof songs "going to Mexico' and their 2nd album was out by then ...anyway ZZ kicked our asses!
@bakshay Artist: ZZ Top Date: 1973-01-2x Location: Honolulu, HI Venue: HIC Arena Source: audience Lineage: 1st gen cassette>Wav(96/24)>Wav(44.1/16)>flac Transfer: 1st gen cassette>Nakamichi 670>Wavelab 96/24 Taping Gear: unknown stereo mics>Sony TC-126 Taped By: D & D Transferred By: JEMS D & D Archives Master Series Volume 9 Setlist: 01. Beer Drinkers And Hell Raisers 02. Just Got Back From Baby's 03. Rattlesnake Shake Length: 20:06
I love ZZ Top, but speaking of Hendrix, the verse is very close to "Well I just got back today.. just got back, from the storm!".. followed by a riff which sounds like the Hendrix riff's twin sister!
Billy makes it sound like there is 2-3 guitars playing, with Dusty's help. Dusty fills in and plays rythym on the bass, scary how good these guys are.
Killer tune, from one of my favorite bands. I wonder...who built that Strat/Les Paul mashup that he used here? Strat body/pointy headstock...but the carved(maple?) top, thick/bound (mahogany?)body, humbucker and set neck of a Les Paul.
@bowslap I think, but not positive, that it was from a small Texas-based company called Hamiltone. I believe Stevie Ray Vaughn played 1 or 2 Hamiltones as well. If I'm wrong, I'm happy to be set straight.
