Seriously though I have been locked in a stalemate with the computer for days on this one because all my ships are too buisy with defence to attack... On a positive note though I have not lost a single capitol ship in that time. Thank god for the dunov battlecruiser and it's insane ability to keep capitol fleets alive. I think it is now my favorite ship.

Entrenchment is nice... The original planetary defences were too weak. I have been trying to play the game with the original and everytime I get attacked at a planet where my capitol fleet is not actively defending the planet is allmost lost before I can even get my capitols in for defence...And I have a massive number of guns, repair stations, and even 3 shield generators on it. Not to mention my capitol fleet is usually right next door in an asteroid belt at the center of my territory.

I dont really think it would be hard or make a story driven element or a SP campaign for this one. All the devs could do is to put 5 or 10 or more Maps connected via a story say first you have a sector which is basically a 1v1 map and that you are the newest commander of the federation and still learning some ropes and from then on you advance until you maybe become the emperor or whatever, add some FMV some script and there you have your campaign.. it adds so much emersion on the game

how do you get entrenchment?? ive got the original game without any of the expansions, ive found the deluxe edition one with entrenchment and diplomacy on it, im only fussed about entrenchment i want those massive star bases!!ive looked on amazon but it just comes up with the special edition anyone know where i could get it?

@Luminouskebab Don't be fooled, Diplomacy is better. You mentioned those star bases, they are in Diplomacy as well, and there is a powerful new diplomatic system, where you can offer missions to other players, and pirates! There are new research upgrades and new types of alliances, too. So get Diplomacy, it gives you more, including those star bases.

jezzzz... i feel SoaSE is a great space RTS game in fact it rivals Homeworld BUT.. and i say BUT... without a true storyline/ campaign.. this is a SKIRMISH game!!!! what a waste.... makes you wonder why no one in the dev team made a plot for a story...

@redz27m its a little hard to make a dedicated story for this game because of the scale of the game. if they were to a single campaign would (if it were worth anything) have hundreds of star systems.the amount of management that would need would be impossible for one person to handle. also i think most computers couldn't handle it. also with the openness of it it allows every game become part of the story.

@Pertinaziuos No, the name kinda says it all: Entrenchment. That means the defensive systems on planets are expanded very much. (Note this is a micro-expansion).

the vasari starbases are best, since you can just avoid the stationary ones and blow up the enemy planet.

@fieldy409 Yeah you are right. But the trick is to build the other 2 types of star bases real close to the planet & then research not losing the enemy planet to bombardment till the star base exists. Then the enemy have no choice but to engage the star base to get the planet.

@fieldy409 True but once the enemy is done destroying your structures they have to engage the starbase to get the planet. By that time your reinforcements should have arrived. Together with the starbase they can wipe out the attack force. I have done that with success many times. But I do agree the Vasari starbase has numerous advantages. I love them all.

Personally I love the advent's starbase. The meteoroid control is awesome. 750 damage about every twenty to thirty seconds to every ship in a certain radius has proved very deadly. That along with enduring devotion means that even on the unfair difficulty I don't have to worry about massive fleets taking over my planets. I will admit, however, TEC basses are a pain in the butt to kill when fully upgraded, of course a mothership's shield recharge ability makes it so I can survive the attack.

my fav is the TEC base but every sb has a special quality to it, Vasari sb can actually move across the gravity well, Advent sb can have a lot of fighters, and the argonev, my fav, is just good all around and, can build ships, and has a red button, you press it when its about destroyed press it and it takes out most of the enemies fleet :D

I think the starbases are what led Stardock to calling the expansion "Entrenchment".

Well it became obvious even in the Beta that the existing defensive structures really couldn't do that much against a truly offensive enemy fleet and while massing Hangars and Repair Bay's together was a better combination then using the actual offensive defensive structures (Gauss Platform, Missile Platform, Laser Platform) it really was powerless facing a true fleet bent on taking that world.

The Starbases basically took out the need to have a defending fleet to hold a planet being sieged.

The Vasari Sb can attack while being constructed which makes it even more deadly, by far the most superior sb. This can be countered with strike craft and a lot of them if your invading.

wow Ironclad did a really good job with the trailer there! The only thing i think they could have done better with entrenchment is to add more music; the origional scores were pretty good but do get boring when you've heard them about a million times each.

Advents are cool. I don't think any of the races are superior or something. I think the game is fairly balanced. What race you think is best is based on the skills you have with that race I. I suck with TEC, and own with advent, that's just how it is.
