Thats the thing about the incident, for a couple of days the government denied the existence of the accident, and both the government and Soviet police lied about what was happening in order to prevent panic, and international attention. Thats just ridiculous. Things would have been much better if they had just evacuated immediately, better yet, they should have had the American style safeguards in place!
Imagine just being at home as normal and then the Radio says you need to evacuate and then the army is outside the door telling you to go and leave everything and you are never coming back... Very interesting video.
@andreysky actrolly in reality, the man that set off the reactor pressed an emergency button to prevent an accident since he found the power levels too high. It was supposed to lower the uranium rods back into the reactor which would shut off and cool off the reactor. However, since the reactor was so hot, and the tips of these rods were made out of graphite (something that the KGB hid from the workers along with 14 previous accidents) the power surged and the reactor exploded.
The channels shown in the YT system of SS successor organization, and their children in 1th and 2th Generation as well as some fragments of the former Stasi structures (Schinzel, Mach, Strien, Treichel, Hase, Kaspersky, Havelka, Thörmer etc.), set the quota of the worldwide operating ALKAIDA - organization
@Benzor1001 Yes, yes it is. Modern designs do not have the flaws of Fukushima Daiichi and are completely safe.
Some newer reactor designs will shut down on their own in the event of a cooling failure. This would have prevented the Fukushima Daiichi disaster. Others have so many failsafes that the probability of a meltdown is basically nothing.
Also note that the reactors and containment vessels withstood a 9.0 just fine- not bad for such old tech.
Did the residents (not workers) suffer from acute radiation poisening? I am pretty sure if they had been exposed to 7 for a few hours they should have gen sick the next day or so. some hair loss, vomiting, so forth.
@meronmotors They wouldn't have been sick like that straight away. It is estimated that 4,000 people died because of the radiation poisoning in total, nobody outside the area died.
@alexnzxVersion2 Oh, so they didnt get symptoms at all? (Nausea, vomiting, aching, I mean minor stuff) I know the offspring of residents were plagued with deformities and all sort of complications, as well as much higher then normal, cancer cases for the people who lived in chernobyl at the time.
If im right (which i dont know) the last reading was 10 roentgen which was over 100,000 times greater than normal and they didnt want to alert anybody so when people asked Why do you wear a gas mask they were told to say they had training. They then found out how serious the levels of radiation was so to save lives they decided to let the secret go and evacuate both Pripyat and Chernobyl. after the evacuation 140 000 residents moved back into Pripyat (illegaly) and live there to this day.
@Marc12313 Thats right they did want want to hide it but I think from the World. I understand the full scale of the problem was not passed on straight away to the authorities as well.
So is there any (scientific) evidence whether it was 1 or 7 Roentgen?.. Can you see radiaton when it's 1 Roentgen? Did the population die after a few days?
@UnknownSkater678 it wasn't only the radiation, it was a nuclear rector melt down, the whole rector blew up causing a big amount of radiation flying out in the sky
I know it was hard to do things in the Soviet Union but if the radiation detection devices went off the scale should'nt an evacuation have been declared? Im sure it would have saved many lives.
@Guthans702 you just have no idea what it used to be during the communistic period. of course, the prime minister would always say "we care about the people" but when something like that happens you can actually see who care of what. and it wasn't only these people, all the citizens of the former ussr were kept in the dark about it-16 countries!!!! russia, romania, bulgaria, belorussia etc. the people had a parade on may, 1st, just a few days after the accident, and they had no idea!!!! pity.
Well, I lived in communist state too (Yugoslavia), but we were very aware of the tragedy, I couldn't go outside to play, It was forbidden to eat lettuce and other vegetables, and the whole country was in some sort of emergency.
Although, Yugoslavia was not under Soviet block, it was non-aligned state.
@Gencturk92 A powerplant, in Chernobyl exploded. This released shit loads of radiation and that was the problem... It's a specific accident, not general really.
@Skillside stalker call of pripyat is a pc game using theses events as a backdrop, they altered the history so that mutants now occupy the exclusion zone and people called stalkers enter the zone out of curiosity and also to find valuable artifacts. its very good in my opinion.
Everybody must know that today in the zone of Chelyabinsk next to Techa river in Russia, were a lot of radioactivity accidents, but there wasn't any evacuation. People there continue living with terrific radiation levels and nobody do anything, 5 times more radiation than Chernobyl. Life expectancy is about 42 years old. This people must be evacuated NOW!! I don't know why Russian government doesn't do something, they're murderers!!!!!
that song mixed in with the creepy shit is bone chilling, I like it! Nice mixing of the audio. I don't care to know the tracks used cause I like it to be used exclusivly to this video cause its that damn creepy.
Russians too busy trying to cover up, they let thousands of people die due to their secrecy. Shame on the Russian government to wait so long for an evacuation.

Yeah, you can visit, but there are guards posted at different locations as buffer checkpoints. You must have a geiger counter and you can only stay in certain areas for so long.
They are not mostly dead as the author of this video tries to show. IIRC at least half of them live in the city of Slatuvich. They have lots of children.
radiation still there, the place will take thousands of years to clear up. thing is, the nuclear material is still in the reactor that went boom.... ALSO, there is still the chance it can reach the other reactive nuclear material beneath the plant... if they collide.... consider europe unliveable.
There are actually teams which still go into reactor 4 to perform maintenance. The problem is that the sarcophagus housing the reactor radiation is rotting and there is no money for a new one. Mikhail Gorbachev founded an international fund to replace the sarcophagus, but it hasn't raised much money.

That's the sad part, no one can ever go back, not for hundreds of years. Unless we find a miraculous way to remove radiation from the ground, water, and very air, Pripyat, Chernobyl, and the surrounding area is a wasteland.
@ScottM2495 High energy photons. It's just a form of electromagnetic radiation. Visible light is "radiation", but when people use it in the common vernacular, they man high energy radiation, which has a shorter wavelength. Like XRay's, they can pass through your body, but with nuclear radiation, the wavelength is even shorter, and it can do things like split DNA molecules in your body in half.
Lol, Pripyat Chernobyl is on cod4 i didnt even know that Pripyat Chernobyl was evacuated in 1986 since i am only 13 but i guess its kinda like fallout 3 with the radiation an all ..
Yeah, Man, and who says video games arent educational. I got into Chernobyl/Prupiyat because of COD4. I still like to wander into the pool on "Bloc" and look out the window, cuz you can see the famous ferris wheel.
If I'm not mistaken (which I very well could be) the park was set to open the very next day after the disaster. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
@makaveli087 infinityward dont know shit. just stole the idea and maps from GSC Game World who come from Ukraine so obviously respect the liquidators and accident. stop insulting this horible event wih computer games and remmeber the dudes that gave there lifes to save half of europe
this accident happened in the 80's not the 50's horrible video quality, was it the radiation or were the sovies cheap, and low budget p.s. those people are out of style even for the 80's man ww2 put russia far behind!
masterchiefvader, you are wrong, this video was made with a mobile phone... in ur 14 years u learned how to type (unusual for american) however dident learn to use ur brain (if any exist). If you think again u may understand that this wasnt a pro camera, so why making a fool of ur self?
OonaCanute: sorry i dont get bangladesh humor, maybe think again what u tried to say (it may seem hard for a retard like u) and say it in more understanding way.
does it really matter about camera quality? think of when it was filmed dick head and also its not a video about camera quality its a video about the radiation of Pripyat Chernobyl
The real tragedy is that thier was no rapid response in place, while this video was being filmed, people should already be in the process of evacuating.
ich bin für die totale anarchie und die rückverdummung der menschen hört sich blöd an aber unser planet wird von zeit zu zeit immer mehr vom menschen zerstört
you wouldn't actually see the sparks. if the people there had been able to see them, im sure they would have been much more concerned about their day. to quote ratarsedrodent:
"It causes flashes of light on the video recording. The video (being an old one) used magnetic tape and there was a lot of ionising radiation (gamma rays) about. These can affect magnetic tape that the film is recorded on."
thanks. i'll copy and paste what you said to the liveleak forum where i originally saw this vid and everyone was debating it and see what they say. the poster of the vid said it was radioactivity but i was a bit skeptical because the locations of the sparks werent random locations they seemed uniform and repeated over the same spot.

I don't know, but this footage looks more like 1966 rather then 1986.

Can somone tell me what radiation actually is?
ScottM2495 3 years ago 3
@ScottM2495 A bunch of small energetic particles that will destroy your DNA pretty much killing you depending on exposure time.
sirarrowmen 1 year ago

ScottM2495 3 years ago 5
Yeah, Man, and who says video games arent educational. I got into Chernobyl/Prupiyat because of COD4. I still like to wander into the pool on "Bloc" and look out the window, cuz you can see the famous ferris wheel.
makaveli087 3 years ago 22
although it sounds kinda wierd coz its just a game, i agree because you think about whose swam in there in real life
ScottM2495 3 years ago 3
Yea i learned about this in school then i plyed cod4 a year ago and was all like woa i just read about this.
Mailboxbillthefirst 3 years ago 6
weird thing is that the ferris wheel has never been used. the inauguration of the park was going to be a pair of days after
Peath 2 years ago 3
If I'm not mistaken (which I very well could be) the park was set to open the very next day after the disaster. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
makaveli087 2 years ago 17
your correct, they spent ages on that park, no one ever went on the ferris wheel
SVWillmer 2 years ago 3
The park was slated to open t the public the day of the accident. Now they are some of the most highly irradiated structures in the town.
scienceofthings 2 years ago 2
@makaveli087 it was set to open on May 1 only a few days away.

@makaveli087 I think that was the wheel, It was a gift to the city or something.

@makaveli087 no it wasn't going to be open the next day, it was going to be open the May 1st.

@makaveli087 Yeah, video games do educate! Almost same thing in MW2, in "Wasteland" u can see the center of chernobyl. The accident was tragic ;'(

this accident happened in the 80's not the 50's horrible video quality, was it the radiation or were the sovies cheap, and low budget p.s. those people are out of style even for the 80's man ww2 put russia far behind!
masterchiefvader 3 years ago 2
masterchiefvader, you are wrong, this video was made with a mobile phone... in ur 14 years u learned how to type (unusual for american) however dident learn to use ur brain (if any exist). If you think again u may understand that this wasnt a pro camera, so why making a fool of ur self?
loxloxloxloxlox 3 years ago
loxloxlox etc: How dare you insult the typing abilities of Americans when you yourself appear to be hitting the keyobard with your face?

The real tragedy is that thier was no rapid response in place, while this video was being filmed, people should already be in the process of evacuating.

What's radiation? Why are there sparks on film?
hokman1 3 years ago
those sparks you see is the radiation contamination being caught on film.
i think the radiation comes into contact with certain elements in the enviroment and causes a reaction, the spark.
as for 'what's radiation?' learn to use search engines like google.
scuddycares 3 years ago
you wouldn't actually see the sparks. if the people there had been able to see them, im sure they would have been much more concerned about their day. to quote ratarsedrodent:
"It causes flashes of light on the video recording. The video (being an old one) used magnetic tape and there was a lot of ionising radiation (gamma rays) about. These can affect magnetic tape that the film is recorded on."
MustangGTHO 3 years ago
thanks. i'll copy and paste what you said to the liveleak forum where i originally saw this vid and everyone was debating it and see what they say. the poster of the vid said it was radioactivity but i was a bit skeptical because the locations of the sparks werent random locations they seemed uniform and repeated over the same spot.
scuddycares 3 years ago
