In terms of beautiful sonic architecture they do have an equal or even better- Simple Minds! They don't mean much in the US, apart from being linked with an 80's film 'The Breakfast Club' ie 'Don't You Forget About Me'. But if you search then you'll discover a treasure trove of sonic gems way more interesting than their only hit single in the US. Bono pays too much homage to black gospel music. Their best music has nothing to do with gospel music!! I like 'NLOTH'. Their best album this decade.
"They're keepers of some of the most beautiful sonic architecture in rock and roll."
Yep, the Great Boss did say that, and he said a lot more besides during that Hall of Fame induction.
All U2 fans should read it because it details so concisely in poetic beauty what U2 are, what the Edge is. Forests have been levelled to explain U2 over 30 years, but Springsteen's essay is by far the best.
And it comes from the pen of a great master himself, a man who knows what he's talking about.
Is says a lot that they allow each other to express themselves and that the band cared enough to realize the audience couldn't hear them. Bravo to this band for asking for a microphone. Many bands wouldn't even notice.
I remember when they played at Nassau Community College on Long Island 81 or 82.. I was 16 and freakin howlin, still do over deez guyz! Oh that was when you could only hear them on college radio stations, heheh
I've been a fan since I was born (that means since 1990), because my parents are true fans too, and I can say it's great, I never get tired of this band. They are MY LIFE =)
