I loved this game to death. I think TB did a great review, but it's a shame that he picked the most boring (imo) faction to play and did not show the more interesting ones. I usually played Wolf or Lotus because of their really cool units and distinct feel, sometimes Serpent if I wanted something a bit more regular. But that's what I loved about this game: the originality. Living resources, the actual training of peasants and the slime or maggot throwing units. :D

OMG TB played Battle Realms?! I played this game for 3 straight years, sometimes more than 10hrs a day(with record being 20hrs straight). It was so brilliant that i bought it right after playng demo version! Excellent game, big shame it ended up because of the (practically none) publicity :( You´ve just won my heart TB

i think the game black and white by lionhead had some living resources, you had to water the wheat and trees so they would grow and you could set fire to food, fields and buildings

I've been playing this game since about the time it came out. You can actually build a fourth watchtower after you build your keep. I have no problem with defense. Over time of working on your strategy, like me, the other AI teams will have much difficulty invading your base WHERE YOU PLACE YOUR BUILDINGS CAN BE IMPORTANT! I do play other RTS games (SCII) but Battle Realms is still my favorite. I really do recommend other people try this game out and support a sequel from Liquid Entertainment.

this game is the reason why i became an RTS fan. I remember the first time i saw it i was really amazed. I was just playing counter strike with my friends in a computer cafe then i saw a guy playing battle realms. I remember seeing big muscular units fighting against some swordsmen and crossbowmen then suddenly some ninjas appeared and helped the the normal sized guys defeat the big guys, i was realy amazed i was just 10 at the time i saw it. It got a good actions in fighting not like warcraft.

The link to that fan made 'patch' should be taken out. All it does is make the Dragon Clan overpowered, and it doesn't actually fix any bugs. There should be links to the official patches instead.

Other than that, nice video! It's always nice to see that there are other people out there who like Battle Realms as much as I do.

for AI doesn't cheat i can make a tf3(or whatever it is easily in the wolf clan and lotus clan because its a little bit easier to make at those two clan so in like 5 mins of the game you might have 3-5 berserkers(without shale armor) or warlock

really nice video, but its not true that u cant use micro to win a battle. ive seen that u didnt even try to get ur injured units out of the fight. the main idea is to let them rest till their healthbar is yellow so that they can run back to ur base. if 2 units fight 1 unit and u pull 1 of these 2 back the enemy will fight the other unit and wont chase the unit which is goin back, thats the kind of micro u need for this game.

I guess you could call the resource system in Stronghold Crusader "living". For instance you could have a cattle farm and the enemy could slaughter your cattle instead of destroying the farm.. Or burn the wheat, apples, and so on. You did how ever also have never ending iron and stone supply that was not "living". The forest would also regrow, but you could also deforest an area to get fertile land to build farms on. I'd say it's pretty realistic really.

American Conquest has a similar training and resource system, at least when playing as the european factions, as well as you actually needing coal to fire cannons, and if i remember right, there was no population limit and the units where rather fast to train.

Taking out buildings was also somewhat unique since the only real way to destroy them was to set them on fire or use cannons on them, regular infantry just went inside, killed any garrison and captured it

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who enjoyed this game, i remember being stuck on a lvl of the first campaign which was damn hard but the hours i spent trying to clear it wihtout getting bored is to me the sign that this is indeed a great game.

@sushimspero They are considered resource, if you think that way, since their number defines how many units can you spawn in a very moment - this way, you can say that 1 ultralisk/mutalisk is much more "larva cost-effective" than two zerglings if the enemy comes with a massed army or, let's say, hellions.
