The real issue was that the GT doors have to be opened to a full 90 degrees in order to exit the car. Vertical solves that, the same reason other vertical door systems were made. The width of the GT and most other exotic supercars are MUCH wider than your "average" vehicle. Good for the track, bad for going to the grocery.
The whole premise of doing a vertically-opening door mod to a car so that the owner can park 'comfortably'(that is to say, without having to worry about getting 'doored') in a standard parking space is ridiculous as, though the GT won't be dinging anyone else's car (thanks), it does nothing for ensuring that some other doorknob won't 'door' your GT anyway. I guess it's the thought that counts & besides, gull wings and lambo-type doors are the coolest.
