These jokes are slightly less crap than the ones on the Popsicle (TM) brand sticks today. :) Also, it might be fun to go Google Earth some of these addresses...
Did you get this from the same tape as your other Cablevision Cable Chuckles video or was this a different tape that happened to be recorded from the same station?
Yeah- I guess I should be thankful they didn't yank the whole thing, but it seems pretty silly of them to do this over something played on the radio 30 years ago. The reason for the muting is that this begins with the Doobie Brothers "China Grove" with a DJ talking over the intro. You can still get this with the sound on other video sites, you just have to look.
The announcer guy said it -- "TSOP" by MFSB. Abbreviations explained by mrceleb2006 from ca. January 2008. Better known by some as the classic theme for "Soul Train". You might also want to check out their contribution to the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, "K-Jee". Classic salsafunk!
Okay, if this was as good as cable TV could get in the 70's then it's no wonder why I see large antennas on old houses up where I live 60 miles from Denver.
LOL looking at the ages of the kids who sent these in...they would be about 40 now..this is trippy...very odd thinking cable tv was around in the late 70s. we didnt get it till 1981 in philly.
Yeah, it depended on your area. I grew up in the northern Philly suburbs and we had it in the early 70s, but my grandparents up in the Allentown area had it even farther back. The first cable system in the US started in the late 40s (!) in northeastern PA, but it wasn't like cable now. You got out-of-town stations, but "cable channels" didn't exist until the 70s/80s. I think most places got cable in the late 70s/early 80s and I remember that in some parts of Philly, it wasn't until the late 80s.

The good old days of Cable TV, before the scourge of infomercials.

Note that 2 of the kids who sent in jokes (#3 and 5) are clearly related...guess there was no "one entry per household" rule!

Did that channel air this 24/7?

I think it went all night; they had movies and local shows during the day and they might have put this on in between some of them.
