Watch the movie and then come on down to New Orleans to enjoy the finest Cajun and creole. L'cest les bon temps rollett when you listen to fantastic jazz and zydeco music. We're still alive in New Orleans and no hurricane will get us down.
such a great movie-sizzling chemistry between Remy and Ellen Barkin's character-when she says'I never had that much luck with men'and he says'your luck is about to change char-hot-melts the screen and the look of betrayal he feels when he finds out the truth about the people he respected-blind loyalty-
@irland1961 That's Dewey Balfa playing the fiddle, and the name of the song is, "You Use To Call Me" by Clifton Chenier. I'm not sure if Chenier composed it, but he's well known for it.
It seems to me great movies have these special scenes, that may not be necessary to the plot, but add a wonderful richness to movie and are often what I remember most. Another example is the conversation in the evening on the boat when jaws is being hunted.
Thats some terrible stuff.......thats supposed to be New orleans, not georgia(Dennis is using what sounds alot like a georgia accent....pluss, NO is a little too far east and north for that kinda music, as New Orleans IS NOT in acadiana...The Big Easy was a poorly done movie........at least as faras cultural accuacy is concerned
excellent way for the character to use music to get the girl and her refusal was classic. this film is a gem and so overlooked. glad I bought the soundtrack, its great.
Ha ha ha The dancing is terrible. Totally non-Cajun. Christine Balfa taught me to Cajun dance and it wasn't anything like that. This must have humiliated her father. I love Robert Jardell putting his hand on her shoulder as reassurance. Bless you and Dirk and your family, Christine. Balfa Toujours!
When Dewyey Balfa was in charge of Cajun Creole Week at Augusta Heritage, I hear he insisted that everyone be taught to dance. Christine says he was a stickler for accuracy, and she used to get "looks" shot her way by Dad when her playing was even slightly off.
saw this back in '87 at the theater when i was 15...this was one of the best movies of the year, it was too entertaining...both siskel and ebert loved it , too...i even put it at number 2 on my own list....

It is scenes like this that aren't part of the main story that add so much richness to a great movie.

This movie blew me away.
It's cheeky, funny and sexy all at the same time, and whilst I'm not familliar with proper dialect, it still curled my toes 0-o
