There are some languages that transcend spoken word and appeal to the soul. Farsi is one of them and combined with Shusha's voice it become heavenly. The iranian people are surely blessed by their poets and I yearn to be amongst you great poets and writers, philosophers and livers of life. May you be blessed.
Coud any Farsi speaker be so kind as to transcribe the Farsi text of the second song (starting with "A traveler saw Majnun...") into Farsi text (in Farsi). I find it difficult to understand the Farsi lyrics from the video, so a Farsi transcription would certainly help. Az komak-etan kheili mamnun-am.
turns out that poem is not from masnavi, even though the original vinyl (which i own) has it written as masnavi. Its by jami, its in salman and absalam.
if i'm not mistaken, from the little i know of Iranian traditional music, Masnavi in here refers to the 'goosheh' (literally "corner") or 'tune' of the 'dastgah' (literally "scale") of Esfehan, this song has been sung 'into' ... probably the name also suggests that at some old time, Rumis poems were sung in this goosheh, but not sure about it really. am almost sure though the tune itself is called Masnavi. can be checked with Iranian music scholars.
hmm, that could be possible. what my father and i figured from looking at the vinyl (that i seem to still have) is that they meant masnavi as in the name of Rumi's book of poems.
The poem itself is from Jami, not rumi, but i'll see if masnavi is also a name for some type of music.
The tracks are from "Persian Love Songs and Mystic Chants" on Tangent 1971. I have had the greatest pleasure of seeing Shusha four times. I was truly amazed and afterwards she was so approachable. I was absolutely devasted to read of her death (24 Dec 1935 - 21 Mar 2008) There are some excellant obituaries in the national UK press. Many many thanks for posting the tracks what about adding tracks from her first Universal Artists album "Shusha" 1974 I shall never forget her Thanks once again
i have this on cd and vinyl, and no matter who i ask, i cant find what poem this is. can anyone help me? ive searched my copy of the masnavi, and cant seem to find it. does anyone know?
lovely song thanks for posting

I'm a Russian Buddhist, but Persian love songs and mystic chants are honey on my battled and tired soul. Would like to meet Rumi, when I'm done
