  • so many people are dissing her about fractions and how she barely got there for the win...well...look at her trip. shes a clser so shes always more than 10 lengths off the lead, if the pace is slow enough then the speed horses have enough juice to give her a run in the stretch. she was forced 9 wide in the turn for home, thats at least an extra length or two she has to make up. shes amazing. i wonder when she'll run next though...

  • She is such a great horse but coming from the back in a field of 20 is just not going to work. It worked for Street Sense in the derby but look what happened when they tried it again in the preakness

  • great performance....

  • Anybody have a PDF chart from the SA Oaks they can share?

  • "meh. she can't control the fractions, since shes a closer. and in the derby the fractions are always usually fast. just ask giacomo a couple years back. and where did he come from? west coast."

    I agree completely with that.

We've seen countless times how closers succumb because of slow-paced races.

  • If she doesn't like dirt tracks, does it really matter if she run's in the Oaks or Derby? ( not saying she won't like the dirt but we can only wait and see) Giacomo did come from west-coast, but before it was pro-ride. Oaklawn has seemed to set up horses the best for the derby. Really wish they would have tried some kind of G-3 or smaller stakes prep at Oaklawn or Gulfstream against the colts.

  • ARCADIA, Calif. - Though she won her fifth straight Grade 1 race on Saturday, this time in the Santa Anita Oaks, Stardom Bound just did get by after racing extremely wide, a performance that her connections have deemed insufficient to continue on the road to the May 2 Kentucky Derby.

So, unless something dramatically different were to unfold in the next two months, Stardom Bound will continue to race against fillies, and her objective will be in the May 1 Kentucky Oaks

  • There was a lot of bumping, dodging and weaving in the stretch, so the relatively slow fractions aren't surprising.

With that said, Mike Smith complained after this race, that Stardom Bound was "playing around" at the end and that she never really ran. I trust him when he says that. He wants her to improve. I totally think she could take on the boys. She just needs to mature mentally more than anything.

  • colts ran a 62.5/AOC the next race and went a full second faster, with that said she did show some heart and went 9 wide on pretty slow fractions. connections seemed to be leaning the other way on running against the boys- we'll see.

  • Sure, I'd like to see her try the boys in the SA Derby. Geez she was about 9 wide coming round the turn!

  • WOW!!! What a filly! And she was under a hand ride in the stretch, just flying as she was coached along on the outside. This is a special filly for sure! Can she do it in the Derby? You never know till you try, its been a few years since Winning Colors beat the boys, but it can be done.

  • Wow I can't wait to see her challenge I Want Revenge, Old Fashion and PampleMousse!

Its gonna be a good field this year!! =D

  • She's amazing. I had goosebumps watching her yesterday. All heart ...Frankel needs to keep her in her own division in my hot sports opinion.

  • wha a filly

but i dont think she cant do that in the derby

and the colts thia year are amazing midshipman, old fashioned

im not sure she will win

she might the the kentucky oaks

  • Midshipman was injured and is going to have to miss the Triple Crown xP

  • r really

    thats a shame

  • So she had to work for it...seems like it shows she can handle the pressure (she was carried wide) and get up without having things easy her own way. So often you don't know until they're eyeballed.

  • OR bring her east for her next race--give her a change of scene and surface--look what it did for I WANT REVENGE.

  • she was hung wide and also am i right in saying a horse drifted out on her in mid stretch? i say give her a try in the santa anita derby ---if she gets beat so be it--too much emphasis on undefeated i think.

  • Yeah your right. Mike was forced to check her in when Third Dawn (at least I think it was her) drifted out after bumping another horse on the inside. I personally hope they still give her a chance in the Santa Anita Derby. Yes it wasn't her best win, but it was far from being her best trip either. It proves that she not only has some fight in her but that she can overcome a not so great trip to still pull off a win. Personally I got more excited about this win then BC Juvenille Filly Win.

  • Yes, she had a head of steam up and was accellerating faster than the rest when forced to check and lost a lot of momentum. Probably would have won clear by a length or two otherwise. She handled the check beautifully and reaccerated under a hand ride.

  • i hope her connection continues her quest for the roses...its not fair to just stripped her from the derby because of just one race...she already proven her stuff.... i want to see her fight against OLD FASHION AND I WANT REVENGE and the others.

  • hey give her credit. this proves one thing everybody's forgetting. she has more heart than any of the other horses. I am very happy with this victory. Go Star!

  • no i don't think she will get to the derby..does anyone know how blue exit is?

  • Thanks for posting the replay. Wide bid; late nose victory. It wasn't very encouraging in regards to her chances to try the Kentucky Derby instead of the Kentucky Oaks. Mike Smith said she was playing around a little in the stretch. She'd have to show a lot more aggression in the Santa Anita Derby; and the Cali boys are full of fight this year.
